I've been a long-time fan of Iris Johansen, especially the Eve Duncan series. Although STALEMATE is decidedly different from the other stories starring Eve Duncan from the past, I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it--so much so that I stayed up until 3am to finish the book.
Yes, the Eve in this story isn't the saintly, never-do-anything-wrong Eve that many readers have come to know and love. She becomes attracted to a bad guy who, at least in the beginning of the story, is the mother ...more

mystery and thriller fans
Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan is taken to the dark edge of a battle between drug lords, and an equally dark edge between two romantic rivals -- one with whom she’s had an enduring but tense relationship for some time, and the other with whom she shares an emotional obsession. All the elements are there to bring together a fast-paced thriller that’ll keep you turning pages, but force you to roll your eyes at the leap required for believability.

I love the books by Iris Johansen! The same characters are in her novels. I learned about the jungles in Columia and how the drug lords and those who fight against them survive or in some cases don't. I have talked to a person who fought those kind of wars (on what I consider the Good side) and he said the descriptions were fairly accurate. I definately recommend this but should read all of Johansens books with Eve Duncan as the main charactor. Her first few books actually follow one after ...more

i had this pre-ordered. i was so excited about the new eve duncan book, and then i was so disappointed. sigh. i mean, it was disappointing, but it wasn't terrible. it just wasn't up to the standards of normal eve duncan books. and i missed jane, and i missed everything except galen, who was awesome as usual.
and i did love how we found out about interconnected characters in strange ways. sigh. it's such a soap opera of a trashy-thriller series, and i am it's biggest sucker.

ok, i lied the other day as THIS was the best of her's i've yet read!!!
of course, it's also the end, at least currently, to another series, which is always a little sad. after 8 book in a row, you get a bit invested in some of the characters, ya know?!
but, have no fear, another book is awaiting me. i return to another series i'm working thru by Robert B Parker. so, i also get to enjoy more twists and turns as i torment myself w/ thrillers!

Eve Duncan, the main character, is a forensic sculptor in this series, so I found it interesting (CSI fan that I am) that she helps families find closure by reconstructing skulls of missing people to identify them. I'm planning on reading the next one (Quicksand), too...it is a continuation of the story started in this book, so I have to see what happens next!

I don't know why I keep buying these books - they are ALL the same now. I remember the first few Iris Johansn books I read I loved them, new, exciting! But now? It's all the same plot just different names. It's getting rather, well, stale.
And yet I totally buy the latest one in mass market and devour it in a couple of hours. Will I never learn??

This is a suspense thriller by Iris Johansen. She is a great mystery writer and this book is about her recurring character Eve Duncan. I really liked this latest book. Some of her books recently have been predicatble and boring but this was a great read. The story was new and exciting and really kept you involved the whole way through.

Read this book today on my flight back from California! Although fictional, has many twists and turns about the reality of people waking up to themselves and their true beings and the lessons we learn simply by exposing our vulnerabilities to others. A very fast read! It took me 3 hours and 20 minutes, my exact flight time! :D

I really enjoy Iris Johansen's books and was excited to see this one on the new additions shelf in the library. Always great fun to read, Johansen has great character development and has created a family of characters that weave in and out of her books in a way that makes me feel i have returned to a well known community.

I've read several of the Eve Duncan books by Iris Johansen and I think this is the best one. It has more suspense cliff hangers, and nail biting scenes than the others. It's definitely worth picking up and reading but I warn you not to start it on a night before you go to school or work. You'll be up late.

Eve Duncan runs off to the Columbian jungle to help a "bad guy", Moltalvo, with a head that needs to be identified. Of course Joe has to come to the rescue. Adopted daughter Jane is now grown up and on her own, but of course she is at risk too.
It was an easy read, and I like the characters.

This book was hugely disappointing. The story wasn't very exctiting, and characters I had grown to love in previous books annoyed the hell out of me. I found myself hoping Eve would dump Joe on his whiney, overly-macho ass. I actually liked the "bad" guy better. Galen was great, though.

A huge disappointment. I've read Johansen's books in the past, but now they seem more like a flat formula than a new story. The characters are undeveloped, the villian is unneccessarily dispicable-- I don't care if he's supposed to be the villan, some things, you just don't want to know.

Everyone.
This is next to the latest in the Eve Duncan series. I read it in two days because it is sooo good. She's getting closer to finding her daughter's killer in this one and learning more about herself in the process. Edge of seat reading! I'll be reading the next one shortly.

I can never just start one of Iris Johansen's books, and this one did not disappoint. I started reading it yesterday afternoon, and stayed up until I finished it. It was great, but just makes me want to read the next one, which of course, isn't due out until April!!!
