It’s not often that a writer presents a truly unique view of a
traditional concept. Rebekah Armusik, Wilkes-Barre native and King’s
College alum, has done just that with her first book, Memoirs of a
Gothic Soul. Told through the eyes of Nadija, a young, American woman with strong Slavic roots whose life mirrors Armusik’s own, this book reinvents Gothic literature. Armusik pre...more

Until I began reading this book, I had never read anything in the Gothic genre. Gothic novelist Rebekah Armusik changed that for me with Memoirs of a Gothic Soul. I quickly found myself immersed in Nadjia's story and was completely taken away by it. This is a wonderfully written novel that introduces the reader to the protagonist and her circle of family, friends, and enemies as she acquires the dark ways of vampirism. Rebekah Armusik delivers a refreshing and unique perspective inside these mys...more

Dark gothic Nadija’s life’s going nowhere at the beginning of Rebekah Armusik’s Memoirs of a Gothic Soul. Dija's friend’s addicted to drugs. Her ex-boyfriend’s abusive. Her family doesn’t understand her. And she’s still living at home as she studies in college. But she has a dream (of a handsome young man), a quest (to write a thesis on vampires) and a destination—the hope of staying with relatives in Prague. She also has a destiny, as the rest of this novel reveals.

Told in first person, the nov...more

Rebekah Armusik’s books make her account of supernatural powers come alive through relate-able characters and a gift for storytelling. I love when books and authors can make you see something in your mind that isn’t really there. Rebekah goes past that talent and leaves you haunted by the characters and tales she has woven long after you have closed the book.

With a backdrop of Slovak ancestry there is richness to what Rebekah weaves from century’s old folk lore to modern day symbolism. There is...more

I came across Mrs. Armusik's book through a stroke of luck, and I'm thankful I did. How rare it is these days to find a book that you fall in love with, where you actually feel the character's pain, happiness, and stress. I found my heart racing many times while I read this beautifully crafted tale. I believe this is due to Mrs. Armusik's rare talent to write a story that casts a spell on you, and enchants you...actually brings you into the world she has created. And what a majikal world it is....more

**The author provided a review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

This is another hard one for me to review. I think what it comes down to is that I liked the story but not necessarily the storytelling. In Armusik’s debut novel, she creates an interesting world and premise: a young woman, tired of feeling out of place and, at one time, powerless, in a small town in Pennsylvania, hops a plane to Prague to start a new life, continue her research on vampire folklore, and, ultimate...more

I have read this book countless times and I just can't get enough! Rebekah Armusik is definitely my all time favorite author and I can not wait to read Mariposa. The details she uses to describe something so simple as the moon and the night are just incredible.

In the first chapter I found myself crying when Olga was talking to Alexei about Nadija. Not that it's sad... just beautifully written. It really is like poetry.

I think it's quite obvious that Rebekah has an amazing talent for writing and...more

I really loved this book. It kept my interest the whole way through and I can't wait for the second book to come out! The characters are really enthralling and I was drawn into them. I also liked how the author bridged the gap between the human life and the more etherial plane. I would recommend this book to anyone! Especially people who are interested in energy and vampirism that is more adult and believable (unlike many books that have been coming out in the past couple years). The Gothic styl...more

This is the first book in the Gothic Memoirs Series, and I truly loves it.
I am blown away at Rebekah's brilliant and poetic writing style. She is truly amazing.

This series gives a whole new take on vampires and angels, its nothing you would anticipate. The lead character Nadjia is a smart, sassy, witty character, that I found myself instantly relating to.

I would give this book a chance, and the following ones. Its truly an amazing story and will suck you in, and hook you for the long haul. You w...more

I am normally not a fan of any type of fantasy or vampire novels. I have to admit that this book changed that. Rebekah is so descriptive and tells such a fascinating story that you have to sometimes remind yourself that it is fantasy. You get so wrapped up in her storytelling you can't put it down. At times her descriptive powers of unpleasant things makes you squirm and of the love between the characters fills you with happiness and joy. I definitely recommend the series even if you think it's...more

The Book is absolutely amazing. You feel the pain, love, and passion that the character Nadija feels. Rebekah really knows how to pull the reader in with her writing. She is absolutely Brilliant. I look forward to the full series. I have read the book more than once because how much I loved the characters, the setting, and the feelings they all experience. I have told all my friends to pick up a copy to read it bc it's that brilliant. I truly believe that Rebekah will take the title as queen of...more

Nadija has just finished her college degree, removed herself from an abusive relationship, and separated herself from drug addict friend. She's realizing that she needs to get out of her town and away from all of the unhealthy relationships surrounding her, including her unsupportive family. Her destination is Prague, where she can work on her vampire research. Dija has been fascinated by this supposedly mythical race for years, and she has a theory that they actually exist. Memoirs of a Gothic Soul is an extremely well written book about vampires. The author's vampires actually drink blood and have sex! Through her writing, I felt like I both knew and could relate to the main character, Nadjia. This novel is suspenseful, humorous, sexy.... just truly remarkable! It will leave you wanting more. I highly recommend this book and am anxiously awaiting Book #2.

I'm really going to love this series. Be prepared to commit a LOT of time (and some money) to this series if you pick it up, though. There will be 13 in this series, 13 in a prequel & 4 books to tie it all together - 30 books in all per the author.
I think it's well worth the time/effort/money, though.

Paranormal romance with a kick-ass heroine.

I had to stay up late to finish this book. I am so excited it is only 1 in what will be an amazing series! Everything I have every read or heard about vampires, Lilith, and the Gothic world has been wonderfully overturned by Rebekah. I care about these characters as if they were my own friends. I had tears in my eyes as I reached the end of this book and wanted to reach out soothe away the pain. I am in love. Thank you, Rebekah.

his book had a different writing style than others I've read. It took me a few pages in the beginning to get used to it, but once I did I couldn't put the book down. They story line, history and Christian-based facts are different and refreshing. I will definitely be continuing this series.
Genesis (aka Zombie Mama)
I really enjoyed this bookand can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Overall I enjoyed the story. Rated a 3 only because at times it was a little slow for me. Definitely interested in reading the next to see where it goes.

From a young age, Rebekah Armusik was a gifted and dramatic writer. By the tender age of ten, she was writing poetry and short stories that were inspired by her grandmother's tales of Slavic folklore. Even then, her poetry was rich and romantic, and it was soon apparent that Rebekah had a unique insight into the human condition—along with a style all her own. Surrounded by a culture rich with trad...more

“I clutched the basin of the sink as I checked my reflection. I was badly bruised on my neck and décolleté. I then realized my arms, abdomen and legs ached as if I worked out with heavy weights too hard the day before. My eyes flashed back to my neck. I traced the hand marks that left their anger in a violent green and purple pattern. I needed to wash myself. The smell of blood lingered upon my skin, turning my stomach. I heard Alexei tapping on the door but ignored him and stepped into the shower.
The water felt caustic at first, causing the pain my attacker rendered upon my body to resurface, but soon we made peace, and I rested under the heat. I heard him come in, and he slowly moved the curtain back, allowing a rush of cool air to rape me once more.
“Please, Dija. Say something.”
I continued my determined vow of silence. The hurt was suppressed within my chest.”
