One of the classic railroad books. This is largely a book of pictures, primarily of electric railcars, with descriptions of interurban electric railways across the country sprinkled into the photo captions. I'm gratified that Middleton included a section on freight operations, but wish he'd also seen fit to include maps of the various and sundry inter-city electric railroads (particularly the ones he featured, like Illinois Terminal and Pacific Electric.)
