I just reread this book, and I remember now why I liked these so much in high school. These books have everything right about them that is wrong with Twilight. For one, it's over three quarters shorter. But that's just for starters.

Briar Creek is just about the quietest town imagineable, so when Mrs. Burdock's nieces, Rowan, Kestrel and Jade Redfern, move in next door, Mary-Lynnette and her brother Mark are obviously intrigued. They have good reason to be. The Redfern sisters ar More...

What I like about this book, is the fact that Mary-Lynnette, actually has a choice, she could've make eveything perfet for Ash and stay with him, next to him, for eternity, but she decides she can not do with that kind of live.

Ash was such a jerk on "Secret Vampire", and I honestly hated him then, but this is a new story, and he shows his true persona. I honestly loved him here. Mary is strong, and not so delicate. L. J. Smith has this thing going on ( which is amazi More...

After reading the first book in the Night World series I didn't really know what to expect from the second one, but I was happy when it turned out to be about vampires as well.

Reading this book, I was surprised to see a character from the first book in it now acting as a main character. This is something that I find to be very creative of the author. Especially taking into consideration what an impact the events in this book have on that character's attitude and life. A character who More...

:L.J. Smith is an amazing paranormal romance writer. I read the first book of in the Night World series(Secret Vampire.) last summer, then I stopped there and decided not to read the rest of books, because of the whole there being a new protagonist in every book That really kinda bugged be. I tend to read more book series than stand-alone books, only because I love seeing characters and story progress and continue. But yeah I kind of got over it, and decided to pick up Night World again, and I’m More...

I think I love this book mostly just for its fly-@$$ cover. L.J. Smith books are right up there with Caroline B. Cooney vampire books for me, pure cheesy fun. Ash, the big bad from the first Night World book Secret Vampire, gets his own book here. His three sisters have run away from their island in order to escape the harsh realities and strictures of living in the Night World, and gone to visit their Aunt in some small (Midwestern?) town. When they get there, they find that someone has staked More...

As an adult reader I gave this a 2 star because some things were not very logical. The story was well written and as a teen I think I would have given it a 4 maybe even a 5. I would not mind letting my children read this book as the love relationships are based on emotions rather than physical appearance. The relationship between the characters are healthy, for example they do not have the male stalking the female or the female saying she is going to die without the male. Yes that is a comparis More...

Night World #2: Daughters of Darkness, by L. J. Smith

For me, "Daughters of Darkness" is the one sour note in Smith's Night World series. It was the one book in the nine book series that I had to force myself to finish (I am obsessive about finishing everything I read).

The concept is interesting, but I feel it could have used better execution. As with all Night World books, the protagonist is female. Mary-Lynette is a human and unaware of the secret world of vam More...

Daughters of Darkness, the second entry in LJ Smith's Night World series, is the perfect antidote to the well-worn, overly traditional depictions of female characters that plagued the first novel. Where Smith gave us just one female character in Secret Vampire--and a submissive, ill, and impotent female character at that--in Daughters of Darkness she introduces four strong, well-rendered, and independent heroines. Perhaps this is deliberate; three of these characters are fleeing an oppressive ma More...

i can't even tell you the last time i read this book, but i read it over and over in middle school and high school. ash redfern was my first fictional boyfriend! all fictional boyfriends since have been compared to him! but rereading this now really explains SO MUCH about me and my tastes.

ash calls his lady sweetheart, which is one of my biggest verbal kinks! he's described as a knight-errant, and y'all know how i feel about knights! he wishes he were human, cos everyone knows vampir More...

Horrible book cover - GREAT BOOK.

After getting over the initial disappointment that the story from book 1 wasn't going to be continued, I settled into this book. It has a definite Nancy Drew quality about it (Smith even jokes about What would Nancy Drew Do?!), but was super charming.

The characters in this book I didn't connect with the way I did in the first book - but I enjoyed it very much. I wasn't nuts about Jade, she seemed as scared as her kitten most of the time. I al More...

Daughters Of Darkness: I liked this installment alittle better I really like the soulmate principal and I love ML's Character. How she starts out meek and soft spoken and then all of a sudden this horried stranger comes into town that just brings the violence and tenasity (spell check lol) out of her. Some of my favorite quotes were "I would have understood if the girls had murdered him." (not a direct quote) And "Your giving me a stick?" Both quotes from ML and you will have More...

Well first off let me just say, I read this book back when I was probably 15 or 16, so that would make it almost 10 or 11 years ago; I had borrowed it from my school library :).
For the longest time my sister and I have been trying to remember it, but never could, and finally now, after all this time, I found it.

I'm so excited!
So let me see what I can review from my memory back then;
I've always loved vampire stories, and of course back then romance stories were big More...

Navah I agreed with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY about this book!!
Twilight is a good book I think, and I DID enjoyo that saga...but Ash Redfern and Mary-Lynnette Carter are the ULTIMATE couple, like Romeo and Juliet and Angel and Buffy.

This book is very good. It starts of with these three vampire girls running away from their home because they are fugitives. As they arrive at their aunt's house they notice their aunt dead, while a sixteen-year-old girl watches them from afar. They decide to bury her and the girl decides to investigate. Soon she figures out they are vampires and their is a rule for vampires that they will die if they reveal their secret, so to make sure nobody tells anyone they share blood to make them family. More...

We meet brother and sister Mark and Mary-Lynnette Carter, who live in a small town that happen to get a visit from three vampire sisters (Rowan, Kestrel, and Jade). The sisters show up to visit their grandmother, but discover she has been killed by a vampire hunter. Thus begins the mystery of who killed Granny while not revealing their true selves to Mark and Mary.

Book 2 in this somewhat connected series of supernatural tales has much of the same components as the first book: vampi More...

This was an ok sequel to the first book. It didn't involve the protagonists from book 1, so don't be expecting to see them. We do get to see the lighter side of Ashe, however. I felt, like the other book, her characters are a little wooden and not well formed. Even during "the kiss," you are not really involved in the characters and it isn't believable. This author could use some more research time reading romance novels or something seeing how to build up some chemistry and angst More...

Book 2 of the Night World series, Daughters of Darkness, shifts focus to a new set of characters of the secret society. Relatives of James from the first book, we meet Rowan, Kestrel, and Jade. They are three vampire sisters who snuck away from home. Tired of the secret society, they want to try to live as humans out in Oregon. They move into a dilapidated old home, next to Mark and Mary-Lynette Carter. As Jade and Mark get closer, their brother Ash comes to town to bring his sisters back. More...

I have started this book may times but something always get in the way of me finishing it. So I picked it up last night because it was by the bed and I was too lazy to go and get BDB. I am so glad I took the time to read this book. I will say that it isnt a heavy read so you can get through it in no time. But it does have a very young feel to it. I did enjoy it, how ever even though it didnt center around the three girls as the title would suggest.

Wasn't my favorite, but I did get more into it the further I got into it. I liked seeing Ash eat his words and the ending was a surprise. Soon after arriving, the girls and Ash must find their aunts killer, receiving help from their human neighbor siblings, Mary- Lynnette and Mark Carter. Meanwhile they must deal with finding their soul mates and dangerous More...
