This is a pretty good overview of Freud's writings. It covers many of his texts, including some rare ones, and offers a rather good interpretation of Freud. The only problem area is that the author sometimes slips into his own epistemic confusions over Freud's oeuvre and begins to slide into "his opinion about Freud"; however, it should be noted that it's very clear when he does this unlike far too many authors of secondary and tertiary texts. All-in-all, this is a pretty good read--and a very h ...more

Recommends it for: Psychology enthusiasts
Maybe I just don't get Freud. But, well, he WAS hugely influential. He's essentially the father of talk therapy, after all!

This book is a good, concise overview of some of his most important ideas, and covers dreams, identity, personality, therapy, and so on. Nothing terribly surprising, but definitely more than old ground and, fortunately, doesn't go too into what everyone always gets hung up on ("What do you mean, PSYCHOSEXUAL STAGES?").
