The blurb for Betrayed makes it sound awesome!! Add that to the dozen or so 5 star reviews, and I was so excited to read a great medieval Historical. I really loved the plot. The author is English and I think that gives this book a flavor of authenticity, and her writing is good, in fact I loved a few lines, that I will definitely put in this review.

However, this book struck a couple discordant notes for me.
Amber, our heroine and an English lady, is

This is a sensational debut romance from Claire Robyns. In the romances I enjoy, the hero is the most important character. Krayne Johnstone is exactly my type of hero. A lusty, alpha laird who makes no apologies for his strength and his raw masculinity - even when they lead him into a little bit of trouble! - he is also flawed and vulnerable as he learns to love and trust Amber. She is a fitting heroine for Krayne - feisty, strong and courageous. There is an energy to this book that just kept me ...more

Some days nothing beats being curled up in bed reading a good Scottish historical romance--- (emphasis on the ‘good’ part of that equation). Earthy, fierce and loyal. Bound to the land and to the clan. That’s how I like my Scottish reads.

I think I scored well when I got my hands on a copy of Betrayed by Claire Robyns. She did herself proud with her debut novel. What I loved best about the book were Amber & Krayne’s personalities and how they played so strongly off of one another. Amber is f

I’m SUPER addicted to Highlanders so when I picked up this book and saw what it was about, it was a no brainer – I’d read it, I’d love it and I’d finish it with a huge goofy grin on my face. There’s something about those rugged Highland men with their plaids and broadswords that get my heart pounding and when they turn on their charm, speaking in that sexy Scottish brogue, I’m a complete goner and lucky to remember my name (I might actually need to start stitching it on my underwear). BETRAYED h ...more
Among The Muses
In this debut novel by Claire Robyns, you will be transported back to a medieval time were deceit and betrayal were everyday occurrences, and difficult choices were often made for you. Betrayed will take you on an engaging, action-packed, wildly sexy adventure, that will keep you turning the pages!

The very first page you are introduced to, depicts a map drawn to represent the physical Scottish borderland landscape of this fictional tale, yet at the same time makes you feel like it's a real story

If Claire Robyns’ debut release from Carina Press were to bear a different title, it might be called The Truth and the Perception of Truth. Thankfully, its title is the much catchier Betrayed, but the story’s theme still stands.

Much of the conflict–not only between the hero and heroine but the wider plot as well–revolves around what the characters perceive as the truth. They learn that their perception of feelings and events is not always how things actually are. The hero and heroine also suffer

BETRAYED BY CLAIRE ROBYNS is a historical romance set in early Scotland. It is well written with depth and details. The plot is well written. The characters are well developed, easy to follow, easy to relate to, although our heroine, Amber needs to grow up sooner. She is still enchanting. It has a kidnapping, lust, passion, twists, turns, romance, secrets, suspense, loyalty, mistrust, betrayal, death and family feuds. The hero, Krayne, is strong, handsome, sexy, loyal, fearless, devoted, believes ...more

I want to take a moment and talk about the label "historical romance". Why? Because that label is what drew me in to this book. Now, there's historical romance Diana Gabaldon style - which is sweeping, beautiful romance and a story that's lasted beyond the pages of a single book, and there's historical romance Eloisa James and Karen Marie Moning style - which is hot, heavy, and full of corset-ripping.

So I picked up this book hoping it would be the former - but what I got was the latter. However,

Claire Robyns bring a nice debut romance story. Being a fan of Scottish romances, I was excited to read this one.

Amber Jardin is a young, strong willed seventeen year old, arriving from England to find herself caught up in a family feud. She’s immediately thrown in the mix when she is kidnapped by a strong, ferocious Scot. Krayne Johnstone is a fierce warrior, trying to use Amber as leverage against her family. Instead, he finds himself strongly attracted to Amber.

The feelings are mutual but bo

Recommends it for: anyone who loves medieval Scotland
I loved everything about this book. It wasn't a broad, epic, historical, but it was meaty in its love story with medieval Scotland in the time of King Jamie as its backdrop. Amber and Krayne were the best alpha heroine/heroes I've read in a long time. Amber proves to be feisty, intelligent, and yet a bit clueless sometimes about men. Krayne is the true alpha warrior: Laird of his clan at 14yrs old, refuses to take no for an answer, and canny in his use of politics. I loved the fact that Ms Robyn ...more

Amber Jardin is young, foolish, headstrong and ripe for someone to tame her fiery temper. She had no kin left other than her uncle who despised her and wanted to marry her off to the nearest ruffian to get rid of her. As she tries to save her friend from sure death, she is kidnapped by Krayne Johnstone, “The Grey Wolf”, and held for ransom.

Krayne is known for his victories in battle and his hard resolve to punish Amber for being his enemy, but destiny brings them together for better or worse and

Painful to read. The heroine was a brat and I had to remind myself she was only 17 years old and I think he's 34 years old. Scary!
The writing was good (that's why I gave it 3 stars) but I could barely get through her tantrums.
All I could sense from these two was pure hatred for one another. I don't even know when they feel in love. All of a sudden she is and I'm was left wondering when that happened. Things finally started to fall into place at around Chapter 13 and I was curious enough to plow

Hunter’s Review

To me, this book moved a little bit slowly. There was a lot of attention to detail—something I know all fans of historical romance, including me, really appreciate—but I felt that the nuisances came in place of real heat between the hero and the heroine.

I did enjoy the feisty heroine and thought she had a great sense of humor. The end of the book is very satisfying, although I might have liked more of an apology from the hero.

Do buy this book if you like true to life historical

Recommends it for: Anyone who likes a good story with lots of past
This book captivated me almost the instant I opened it. I felt instantly transport and just about automatically felt for the heroine Amber Jardin. With all the back story and neat little history I felt like I was right there living it. This story was very well written and kept me intrigued through the whole thing. I loved the interactions between the characters and how they reacted to everything, especially between Amber Jardin and Kryane. Defiantly a book I would recommend to friends.

I devoured this book. The writing was rich, the Scottish setting was vivid, the dialogue was authentic, and the passion between Amber Jardin and Krayne Johnstone could fill an ocean. What a fun read!
