Edge of Escape will keep you on the edge of your seat. You won't be able to decide whether to boo Edward, or root for him. As the mother of teen daughters myself, I so wanted to see Rebecca escape; at the same time I had so much compassion for Edward that I almost wanted him to win her over. Debra Chapoton has done a fantastic job in getting into the mindset of this disturbed young man, and taking the reader along for the ride.

The story jumps around, from the present, to various points in the pa...more

I wrote this suspense novel because I had a sweet, handsome student who was pathetically inept socially. He fit in with the special education students rather than the "normal" student population. He came up to me after class one day with tears in his eyes because he didn't understand the grammar concept in that day's lesson (I'm talking about a 6 foot junior). He eventually earned a B and proved that he had the smarts, but I had started watching him as he interacted with others in the cafeteria,...more

If you want to read a great story that’s fast paced and full of action, definitely check this one out. The whole book is quite atmospheric, with some very tense moments. You wonder what will happen, whether Rebecca will escape, and why Eddie kidnapped her in the first place.

At times the narrative was a bit confusing, as it featured flashbacks and changes in perspective. This might bother some readers, but I found it generally easy enough to figure out, though I did have a few “Wait, what?? … Ohh...more

Edge of Escape is not the type of book I'd usually choose to read. I'm not normally too keen on books about kidnapping as I find it pretty disturbing. However, the premise of this book is slightly more complicated so I decided to give it a try. It tells the story of Eddie Burling, a boy with mental health difficulties, who has become obsessive over a classmate, Rebecca. The book follows her attempts to escape from his clutches.

I wasn't too impressed by the opening as I felt unsure of the settin...more

Really enjoyed this book. Story is different then any story I have read about stalking and kidnapping. Lots of action. I swayed back and forth for Eddie the kidnapper. I felt sorry for him
and wanted things to work out for him. But it was wrong what he did and the terror he put Rebecca
through was wrong.
Story keeps you on your toes wondering what was going to happen next.
Debra's writing style was a little confusing at first, with flashbacks and future events. I easily
caught on to her writing styl...more

I couldn't help but like this story. It has a good flow and events that reminds me why I love suspense books. Actually, a weakness of mine when I'm reading any story is the uniqueness of the characters.

For example, Eddie was a real fascinating boy. I was enthralled by the way he made me wonder about so many factors of life... As for Rebbecca, the girl acted as I would if I were in her position no doubt and that's actually what did it for me...it got me hating myself a little and loving the story...more

This book kept my attention. One of the main characters in this book is a special ed student. He was heartlessly tag as Special Eddie. Life can be so cruel for these little ones with special needs. On top of that he had a very unhappy childhood a real lack of love from his mother. I have a mentally handicap daughter so this really touched my heart. It is so hard to understand where thier actions are coming from and why they do the things they do. I normally don't like books that jumps back and f...more

This was an unusual book, one that I enjoyed, and one that I really liked! I really felt sorry for the bad guy, he just didn't have a good life. Poor him!
