We've all heard about it before, someone writes a review and the author or the author's friends make like rabid dogs and try to tear the reviewer apart. But this was the first time it happened to me and it was all because of this review;

"I love Fae stories. When I read about this book a month before it was released I happily added it to my wishlist and counted down the days until I could buy it.

What really got my interest was the unusual set up; an arranged marriage between a convent educated wo...more

I really REALLY liked this book. It's kind of a perfect Vaginal Fantasy book. It mixes fantasy with romance in a really interesting way, and I loved how Elves weren't all delicate and nice, they were kind of bastards.

The romance is good, the ending is the ONLY thing I thought was a bit weird, but considering she's setting up a series I'll cut her some slack. Overall a really fun read!

Faith is believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe.
- Voltaire -

Showing no emotions is something General Dominic Raikes is very good at. Being a bastard son, he is getting tired in his efforts to make his father proud. The more he tries, the more pain he feels. The only beautiful part of his father is the stunning angelic looks which is inherited by Dominic. Dominic couldn't let anyone get too close to him, including his bride. Which should be an easy thing to do because no woman...more

Those with Elf blood have infiltrated Georgian England and are now part of the ruling class. In fact, with displays of fear and supernatural power they are the true rulers of our world and keep everyone enslaved because of it. None more so than The Fire Lord Mor'ded himself.

Cassandra has been sequestered all her life awaiting her destiny- to become the wife of the Fire Lord's son. However, few know the reason why she has agreed to such a life. But to fulfill her true purpose of getting close en...more

OK so I was stuck between a 4 or 5 star rating when I realized that I did LOVE this story. It took me the first 30 pages to get into it but after that it just grabbed me. I really loved this world that Kathryne Kennedy has woven for us. The imagination she used was fantastic. There was so many things that she came up with in this story that will make me be craving for more. I was glad to see that when I visited her web site that this will be a series and I will be getting the next in this series...more

The Fire Lord’s Lover by Kathryne Kennedy is a dark tale of intrigue, treachery, and unexpected love in a fantasy Georgian England where malicious elves rule their despised human slaves with a brutal hand.

This first book of the series takes place in Firehame, the domain of the Fire Lord, Mor'ded. Dominic, Mor'ded’s half-human son and general of his army, has just won the latest of the war games the elves wage to amuse themselves. He returns home to wed Lady Cassandra in an arranged marriage. He...more

Ms. Kennedy has created a unique world in old England, and I mean medieval times of horses and castles. Seven bored elven lords escape their home on the other side of the veil to come to England. They have divided up the country and now sate their boredom by controlling the king, lords, ladies, and subjects of their region. Each Elven lord has a unique power. They are pure blood elves but mate with human women to produce half-elven children which they use in battle against one another and for ge...more

Dominic Raikes is the elven son of Imperial Lord Mor’ded. Dominic is a great leader and possesses extraordinary magical talents. Lord Mor’ded has Dominic under his command.

Lady Cassandra Bridges is to be married to Dominic. Though, their marriage is not born out of love. Being married to the elven king’s son brings Cassandra that much closer to spying and keeping tabs on the king.

Will Cassandra’s rouse be discovered? Also, how will Cassandra react when the man she married is not the man she tho...more

Recommends it for: Historical Romance lovers, Fantasy lovers, fans of the love story woven into J.R.R.'s tales
Elvish people. Magic. Dragons. Intrigue. Redemption. Oh and romance and sensuality, too. All set in 18th century England, in a world that toes the line between Fae and humanity, lushly described by Kathryne Kennedy.

I had high hopes for this story and it did not disappoint. In fact, I'm very stingy when it comes to giving out a 5-star rating to any book. I literally have to close the book with a smile on my face and a sigh of contentment in order for me to give it such rating. This book deserves...more

I'm on a roll!

The Fire Lord's Lover by Kathryne Kennedy is yet another FABULOUS ebook cheapie at $1.99! This was on my to-be-read (tbr) list for the longest, so I was really glad to finally get around to it. It was so good that I read it in one day...and then I read it again!! Yep, I read it TWICE!

In an alternate universe during the middle ages, England endures the reign of Elven Lords---powerful and magical beings from Elfhame who entered the human realm seeking war and even more power. Unabl...more

When I heard of this book, I knew it was made for me! I love Historical romances, I love Fantasy. And let me tell you the mix of both is explosive! If not for the Elves this world would be your typical Georgian England. Imagine a world where cruel Elven Lords with magical powers took control of England and play war games to know who will have the King in their court. To summarize I LOVED it.

Cassandra is to be married to the son of the Elven Lord. Th...more

It was AWESOME!
In this world, Elf Lords and Ladies rule the world in sectors and most are cruel. They perceive humans as animals or playthings for their amusement. In this dangerous world, being human means being expendable. The elves are cold, emotionless and single-minded in their pursuit for power and domination. They look upon emotions that humans and the part elf humans have as frail weakness.
Cass is the chosen bride of the Fire Lord's son.

The Fire Lord wants to breed a new champion.

Loved the first half of the book. The hero and heroine get married without knowing each other. He's the Imperial Lord's son who happens to be one of England's seven elven lords. He's considered to be as cold and unfeeling as his father, without any human feelings. He's also a very powerful Fire Lord (wields fire magic). The heroine has a few magical abilities herself and she's trained to be an assassin in order to kill the Imperial Lord.

It took a while for me to understand the politics and how...more

Do you enjoy well-thought world building, protective yet caring heroes, clever heroines, tender romances and sex? If you answered yes to those questions, then this book is for you!

I didn't know what to expect going into Kathryne Kennedy's The Fire Lord's Lover. It is the first romance novel I have ever read revolving around elves and I thought it was going to be this whimsical, lovey-dovey, everything-is-so-great kind of story, but it is definitely not. These elves are not two dimensional. They...more

I despise leaving negative reviews, because I know that the author has put many hours of effort and energy into writing a book, but in this case I cannot avoid it. There were a number of little things that drove me nuts in regards to the writing style in this work (long and long is simply long, no matter how many times you use it), but the biggest issues I had with this was the lack of plot details in comparison to the sex details. I understand that it is the nature of the genre, but I would hav...more

It says a lot for this book that it captured my attention and held it for the short span of time it took me to finish it (less than a day). After weeks of trouble finding a book to successfully hold my attention, this one wouldn't let it go. And I read the Kindle version...without a Kindle. (Imagine hours at a computer screen, straining your eyes because you just can't stop.)

Ms Kennedy built an interesting world, weaving the early Georgian era with a fantasy world of elves, dragons, and human-co...more

I was three fourths of the way through this book when I did not finish. It's just, nothing about this book, not the plot, the characters or the settings really stands out as being good. It's just...bland, all bland. Yes the romance is steamy but it's a bit insta love. Like more so than most romance novels.

And dude, the premise where elves came from the elven realm and took over England so you have a Georgian England ruled by elves and half-elves, that premise could have been so awesome. But it...more

The last two people in England who could afford to desire each other had managed to do so, despite their best efforts not to.

Fire Lord's Lover really surprised me. I hadn't paid attention to the book title, all I saw was that it was Fantasy so I jumped at the chance to start it. So when I was quite a bit into the book the amount of romance surprised me. I'll be sure to pay better attention to exactly what I'm reading next time.

3 1/2 stars, not quite 4. I enjoyed this start to the Elven Lords series, but it seemed to lose momentum towards the last third of the book. Nevertheless it was a good book with such detailed world-building that you can tell the author has some major plans for this series. Unfortunately with the way this book ended I can't exactly tell what those plans are. This story finished in such an open-ended way that I wonder if the next book will follow this same couple or a new one. Not that nothing is...more

Warning: this is a gut reaction. I am not even pretending to be objective.

The whole time I was reading this, I couldn't help thinking Oh my god, really? Really? over and over. The plot is just so... trite. Predictable. Done to freaking death. And that's not even mentioning the piss poor writing, half-baked world building and the whole equating sex with love thing. I just... uh. It was terrible. A total waste of money.

Still, even though I can't stand it, that doesn't mean that someone out there...more

Eh... This book was okay, but I think it would have been immeasurably better if there had been less sex and more plotting. As things stand it'd be possible to cut the story down to half the size (a third of it is probably sex anyway) and it wouldn't make any difference at all.

I liked Dominic, Cassandra, and several of the minor characters, but I rather wish they'd interacted together in more meaningful ways. For a time I thought Lady Varley was going to be there to pull off something important,...more

Before reading this, I was doing my weird happy dance because everybody seemed to love it.... And when I started reading it, my high expectations fell right away. I feel like Humpty Dumpty that had a great fall. That's how disappointed I am. And for the fact that Elves are my most hated creature and went against my comfort zone- to be let down just like that *snap of fingers*

I was not that hopeful for this book. I like the author but I have mixed feelings on some of her books. I was pleasantly surprised here. While I wouldn't rant and rave about it, it's probably one of the better books I've read by the author. It had me reading the entire thing in one sitting. I'm hoping it gets some equally good sequels.

I can´t believe I managed to finish this! People, I love romance but this was just painful. Very predictable. So slow my head was melting. Nothing refreshing or new to win my interest. Not just because of the slow pace, the characters are not that great either. I guess it just didn´t get me. The writing style and dialogues are plain and repetitive. It's like I could not expect anything from this everytime I flipped a page. I had all the expected answers in my head before reading them. Frustratio...more

The Fire Lords have left fairy and taken over parts of the world to rule. Mor’ded has sent his champion and half human bastard son, Dominic, to capture the king in order to secure Elven rule in England. Dominic has succeeded in his father’s wishes and returns just in time for his pre-arranged political marriage to Cassandra. Lady Cassandra is more than she seems, while she has been raised in a convent in near isolation she has also been trained as an assassin to kill the Fire Lord. Marriage to D...more

Kathryne Kennedy has done it again. With the fate of her Relics of Merlin series unknown due to her move to Sourcebooks, I lamented the loss of a such a terrific series. Ms. Kennedy is one of those authors who gives a reader something different all the way around in her books. So getting into a new series when you’ve loved a previous one so well, you’re a little hesitant starting out. This author proves she’s got what it takes to magically weave a story that will leave you spellbound.

I enjoyed this quite a bit, and I hope to see more stories set in this world. The world is imaginative and original. The immediate setting is filled with little descriptive touches that give the world a feeling of completeness without dragging down the story.

Overall I found the characters believable and interesting. My only real criticism is an apparent misstep close to the beginning when a character reveals some information to Lady Cassandra. The reveal didn't fit the situation or the character...more

Elven Lords rule the Realms… is what it says on the back cover of this novel. I thought it said Eleven Lords, so I was expecting a different type of romance novel, but to my surprise it was actually pretty neat in an elven sort of way. Kathryne Kennedy creates a totally original, organic, captivating microcosm of insight into the heart in The Fire Lord’s Lover. Here is what to expect:

The Fire Lord's Lover has been on my wishlist for absolute ages because of the unique premise of this book, - alternative history, 18th century England, where mad Elven Lords rule 7 separate realms. Magic, court poisons, intrigues, and hello? Assassins. Need I say more?

The fantasy elements in this book are superb. Little servant girls of Dominic's young wife have slight hint of elven blood in them which gives them their own unique talents. One girl can find anything which is lost in the castle....more

I picked this up as a free Kindle book a while back. I was expecting a guilty pleasure type read, so my expectations were not sky high. And honestly, there's nothing wrong with a guilty pleasure here and there, right? I like an occasional fantasy-genre romance. The world building was decent. Essentially, there are some evil elven lords who rule over England. They enjoy killing people for fun, as well as the occasional romp in the sack with humans. This results in half elves.

One of these half elf...more
