Love it! We're all about natural in this house. And I like the style this book is written in. The authors are speaking directly to you. Like you're sitting right there at the kitchen table having a conversation with a couple of your girlfriends. And they give you 10 goods reasons why you should stock vodka in your house! Hilarious! There's a shaving oil recipe on page 111 that I've got to try. As soon as I get back from vacation, since I just used the last of my cooking oil on brownies this morn ...more

I read this and tried out a few of the suggestions. I did get laughed at by my husband for having various food products on my face or hair, but at least I wasn't out the big bucks I usually spend on a tube or jar of who-knows-what kind of chemicals. All the babushka's beauty secrets are all natural and made from ingredients I already have in my fridge or cupboard.

Borrowed from a friend. It has GREAT make at home recipes for beauty. I remember my abuelita using some of the same ingredients in Mexico for her beauty routines. I love when you can get back to basics and make your own products.... too bad I can't reproduce botox with my blender ;(

Ruder's grandmother—Babushka, in Russian—seemed to have an answer for every ailment, and it was always organic and made from things in your kitchen. After years of using her Babushka's beauty secrets on herself and her grandmother's clients, Ruder moved to America and started using the treatments on the women in her salon. Now, studies have proven that the treatments that her grandmother used for decades are just as good or better than the ones in the stores, because they're more conc

I will say that I was thrilled to get the chance to review this book. First off I was really just thinking it would be fun to read and check out what things were in the book but I really never dreamed that it had so many things that I would actually be able to make and use so easily and for once I have almost all the ingredients that are used throughout the entire book and didn't need to buy anything.
First of all to begin with it is a very interesting read and it is full of Babushka's Beauty t

I really liked this book. It was a quick read and gave insight into how to take care of your skin and hair without spending a fortune. Ruder covers everything from acne, fine lines, adding body to your hair, to whipping up your own self tanner. It was refreshing to read about homemade remedies that came from her grandmother and the "old country" as there were ingredients I would have never thought of using on my skin or hair. The book not only contains recipes but old wisdom passed down from her ...more

In this day and age, everyone wants to look their best and they not only want to feel young, they want to look young. Laser surgery, lipo, botox, etc - it's everywhere! But why spend so many $$ when you can get the same results for only a fraction of the cost?

Babushka's Beauty Secrets is chock-full of home remedies using the items in your kitchen! Raisa Ruder is a esthetician to the stars and she uses the techniques and recipes that her Ukrainian grandmother (babushka) taught her.

I thought this book was wonderful.... I really enjoyed all the recipes and tips on how to do all kinds of beauty secrets the old fashioned way. These quick and easy tips can be used by anyone and in a cost effective way. On some of these tips and recipes I already had the ingredients in my own home just handy and ready to use, I liked that.

Did you know you could lighten the dark circles under your eyes by using peroxide, mayo and a little of lemon juice.... or maybe get a cucumber and soak the s

I glanced through this, and went to several chapters. Nothing earth shattering on beauty. Most of it seems like "old faithful" recipes used by our grandmother's before the chemical high tech industry took over beauty care.

Some of the ideas are like getting advice from grandma like... "slather petroleum jelly on my feet and then slip on a pair of socks. Your feet will be so soft and smooth the next morning."

For those old time recipe's Babushka includes the "tried and true" as well as formulation

This easy to use guide is perfect for everyone! It is filled with easy to use recipes to make your skin glow. I tried several of the simple one ingredient ideas such as an using the juice from an orange to get that all important Vitamin C as a rub. I left it on for 5 minutes and then rinsed with some milk on a cotton ball. I did find that milk with fat works much better than fat free. There are several other easy ideas as well. The most important thing I found in this book is a helper for dry sk ...more

I haven't had time to really sit down and read this book but I have looked through it and I am excited to try some of the beauty secrets as they look like they would actually work! It is well written and funny as well as informative. Some of the secrets I already know - like using my green tea bag from my morning tea to give myself a facial. Can't wait to try lots of these!
