The first in this series really tickled my fancy because of the spark of imagination apparent in the teshuva/repentant demon posessed against bad/demon/djinn posessed.

It was cool! Veil between the worlds being strained, malice and ferales preying on unsuspecting humans, and a fated-mate bond between a male and a female, both fighters.

There's still plenty of that world-building magic going around. And like Sera's death-counseling in book one, Jilly, heroine this time, is from a slightly different...more

What the hell happened here? I really enjoyed book one, but I'm afraid this one was just disappointing on practically every level.

I was expecting this series to be very formulaic- and it is- as are nearly all these types of Paranormal series. The only one I can think of that really tries to shake things up a bit in terms of how the couple meet and what they have to face in each book, is J. R. Ward and her Brotherhood series. But anyway, I digress. So I was prepared (if not totally accepting) for...more

This is the second book in Jessa's Marked Soul series. It chronicles the story of Liam, the leader of the Chicago league Talyans (humans possessed by repentant demons) and Jilly, a social worker dedicated to street kids, who is slated to possibly become a talyan. This is a DARK series and not for those looking for a quick cute read. It deals with characters who are jaded and just plain disillusioned with life and humanity in general. However through the new bonds being formed and the admission...more

*audiobook*

First, as to the narrator. She was alright. I do genuinely appreciate her ability to put so much emotion into her voice. That really helps. Her character accents are inconsistent, which threw me off. Also, she intentionally pitches her voice low and gravelly while speaking as the narrator, and does not stay with that consistently. That really bugged me.

The book itself was just fine. It may be because of listening to the audiobook, but some of the nuances seemed lost to me. Who/what is...more

When I started to read this I did not realise it was book 2 in a series, not that it bothers me, I am not the type of person who must start at the beginning and work their way through, if you are, be aware this is book 2. Book 1 is Seduced by Shadows and it looks really good. Could Forged of Shadows stand alone as a book, absolutely and I will say this now, loud and clear, I liked it! There you go, no waiting till the end to find out what I thought... I liked it. Would I have liked it more had I...more

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

I enjoyed this book a bit more than the first in the series (Seduced by Shadows). It was a bit easier to follow; not as chaotic. It seems to me that's due to Ms. Slade easing up on the intellectual aspect of her writing style. While both books were easy enough to understand, the second was just easier to follow. I didn't have to work so hard to keep up with the constant shift of focus/thought/emotio...more

FORGED OF SHADOWS by Jess Slade is the second in the new MARKED SOULS series.

In Book 1 - SEDUCED BY SHADOWS, readers are introduced to the league of talya, possessed by teshuva, keeping the streets of Chicago relatively clean of a legion of demonic emanations. The talya, as immortal repentant demons are really good at cleaning up the slime but their job takes a new turn with a female talya. What happens when you introduce a determined woman into a cluster of warriors? The world implodes!

Intriguing, Intense, Impassioned , Engrossing all words that could easily describe Jessa Slade’s Forged of Shadows and all of them would be true. Jessa writes a compelling story one that seems to climb into your psyche and stay with you. Forged of Shadows is the second book in Ms Slade’s Marked Soul’s Series.. the league has won a major battle and yet four months later evil seems to be gaining hold in the world instead of offering them a moment’s reprieve.

Into the battle comes Jilly Chan, a dimi...more

Favorite Quote: "My world was always at stake. I just forgot I cared. Until I loved him.”

Liam Niall is the leader of the League, a band of immortal warriors who are possessed by repentant demons. They now must fight evil to repent for their transgressions.

Liam never wanted to be a leader. Having barely survived the Irish potato famine, he escaped to Chicago and lost his soul. Now he and his warriors are fighting a losing battl...more

I really liked this book and it make me want to see where the story lines go!

There is a new type of immortal.

People who give up part of their souls to allow a demon in - they are tempted by the offer of something impossible...usually desperate...sometimes not nice

Of course there are demons! Silly!! many different kinds actually..
Unfortunately, you do not get to pick which one gets inside you, it is not something that talks to you... not like shifter stories where the furry one has their own mind...more

Thanks to the author Jessa Slade for the signed copy!

I have read the prologue & 2 chapters so far, but stopped to move on to another book. Not that it may not be a good book, but I have found it a bit difficult to read due to the content. When I entered the contest I understood that it was a paranormal romance & that the description that I read mentioned something about the characters being demoned possessed, but I didn't realized how demon-intense it would be. I found myself very uneas...more

A pretty good follow up to a new series. The book started out good, but started to drag in the middle but then picked back up again at the end.

I like the idea of a person who does some thing bad, then encounters a hurt that allows them to be possessed by a demon, who then try to reclaim their souls by fighting the evil in the city they live in. This gives all sorts of interesting ideas for stories and of course we have the couple of the book. This time around I found the couple interesting, but...more

Second in the series and I'm still not sure about it. This book was ok but it seemed overly bleak and depressing. There didn't seem to be much of a spark between the two main characters and in fact they seemed to not be interested most of the time; and then every now again the author made an attempt to 'get them together'. Although Slade does get them in bed just over half way through there is no softness between the two in fact they seem to get even more down about how they can live & work...more

I love-love-loved this book. I was hesitant to read it after the first one, but the world in which this takes place was so interesting and hooked me so well from the first book that I HAD to read it. Just because *I* didn't care as much for the first book DOES NOT mean it's not worth a read. It is because it sets up the second book - which I think is going into my top books at home. The Marked Souls world is one that entices you to ask 'what if' questions.

I loved the characters in this book. You...more

I had the priviledge of meeting Ms. Slade at RomCon 2011 a few months ago and heard her talk about this series. It was a very well written story and a cool new twist on the good vs evil idea. I really enjoyed the story line and would encourage others to read her work as well. The only reason I didn't give the book 4 stars was that for me, the main character, Jilly, was very distracting to the story itself. She is so over the top angry at everything and against any type of authority that it had t...more

Part two of Jessica Slades series of Repentant demons are even darker than the first book (seduced by Shadows). There isn´t much hope. Chicago is cold, dark and gritty. The main characters are proud until foolishness, uncommunicative and disillusioned. But the book is still good. It is well written and you really feel for the men of the League. You want to bring them some small sliver of hope and light in the darkness and hopelessness surrounding them. A few short scenes feels a bit more positiv...more

Forged of Shadows was a hard read at first. There were too many details for me to comprehend what exactly was going on, but I knew Jessa Slade wouldn't let me down. From beginning to end, this book delivered a solid punch with a dose of kick-ass. There was angst, romance, action, and thriller all in one. Liam Niall is an Irishman, who lost his soul to a repentant demon and now leads a band of other demon-possessed warriors to defeat evil incarnate. Jilly is a rebel without a cause, defending her...more

Much like the first, I absolutely loved this book. Of course, if it weren't for the hot sex scenes, I'd probably only give it four stars for the Liam being a complete twat (the UK version, which is another way to say idiot) all the time about his feelings for Jilly. There is also the whole religious undertone, which usually doesn't sit well with me, but it's not a big enough thing for it to stop me from enjoying the book. There are also a few slow spots and a little bit more drama then I think i...more

This was a good follow up book to the first in the series. I liked Liam, I always find it interesting how the most self contained badasses always fall hardest and turn into big love sick messes. It's great and really entertaining lol. Jilly bothered me a little. Her optimistic view on the world just grated on my nerves after awhile. Of course, Jilly and Liam were explosive together and yet they didn't seem to really like eachother. Interesting how that happens.

I am looking forward to the next bo...more

Although I enjoyed the book, just not as much as the first one in this series. It might just be me though, because a friend of mine thought it was better than the first one. But I liked Sera and Archer much more than I did Liam and Jilly. You get a little bit of them in the book, but they weren't the focus, of course, since this was not about them. LOL. Good story and very unique and interesting. I might re-read this book later and see how I feel.

I have been waiting for this one since I put the last one down! It did not disappoint! What sad cases the demon ridden souls are! I feel for each one! Neil and Jilly seemed to come alive in between one page to the next! I lived right in the moment with them, and cried when Perrin dies! The League has so much hardship that you can't help but root for their salvation! Jessa you have out done yourself!! Loved it!
Maggie Lynch
Liam and Jilly are the perfect mismatched couple. The emotion in this is always on the surface, and the battles--both real and emotional are truly the stuff of good and evil, of guilt and forgiveness, and of the power of love.

I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I can see many, many books in this world. I only wish she would churn them out faster.
Leah
I wanted to like this book. The first was great and I enjoyed it. But Jilly is annoying and argumentative for no reason. I couldn't fall in love with the romance at all simply because Jilly acts childish and causes more harm than good. Liam came off as almost pathetic for liking her. I really hope she stays out of the way in the next books.
Robin
This series is very inventive but it can be somewhat depressing. I keep reading hoping someone will get a happy ending. I don't want light hearted but I would like some happiness. It seems even when they find their mates they roof is falling in and they don't get a chance to enjoy life in the least.
Diana
I liked the worldbuilding in the first book and was looking forward to more after a good strong start. Sadly, this second entry is a rewrite of book one. Same story, remarkably similar hero/heroine, same villain, same quest, same conclusion. I doubt I'll go forward with the series.
Jen
Book 2 of the Marked Souls something or other. Hunky Irish dude. Tough little Asian chick. Match made in demon hell. I'll probably pick up the 3rd book. These aren't going to change your life but they'll probably entertain you on the beach if you're into paranormal romance.
Lily
Liked the second book better...characters started coming together...and there were a few more intimate scenes...but can still use more. Plot was well written...now I definitely want to move on to book 3!
Susan Lute
This author is such a smart writer. Her characters are endearing, the world she creates so real. My hat is off to Jessa Slade for another fabulous read. Can't wait for the next one.
