Wow! What an impressive book.

The final section on Bible codes is, despite the author's enthusiasm, the least compelling part of the argument. I've taught statistics for too long to be convinced by this without having a lot of questions answered first. For a start, Hebrew names tend to be just a few letters long, since vowels are lacking. So finding a name across an equidistant letter gap (when that gap in sequence can be almost any length) is hardly surprising. While it looks impressive to have

A professor in an introduction to the Old Testament class in college was the first to introduce the idea to me that the Bible could be flawed or fictional due to its seeming contradictions and the fact that it was potentially distorted by centuries of human re-recording.
