The second book in a trilogy, and true to formula, the situation has got almost as bleak as it is possible to get, with just a faint glimmer of hope for our heroes. The characters in this series really do creep up on you, and I was surprised to find myself constantly wanting the narrative to switch to this character then that so that I knew what was happening in all the different threads. I liked this instalment more than the first. The writing improves as does the action. I do find myself quite irritated with Merren, she is a bit too big for her boots in my opinion. However, this is faster and plotted more effectively.

Absolutely loved this book. Gripping and thrilling, it was a wonderful read, and I loved everything between Martil and Karia.
