These recipes are for people who have money to go out and buy ingredients that aren't normally kept. It takes a lot of planning to make these recipes, and hardly any of them seemed appealing to me. I rather make something that I can do with normal ingredients, or at least ones that aren't going to cost a fortune. I was not pleased with the recipes as none of them seemed like food I would want to eat and spend time making.
South Beach is often called a low-carb diet, which makes it seem similar to the Atkins Diet. The difference is that South Beach is a low-carb and low-fat diet. In the book, Dr. Agatston explains the original purpose of the diet was not weight loss, but the prevention of heart disease.
Reading the book, I realized it confirmed what my mom had been telling me for years: "Mansoor, to lose weight and be healthy, you need to cut four things out of your diet: white flour, white rice,...more

A decent cookbook but most recipes are very expensive and time consuming to prepare especially if you are just cooking for one or two people. This book is a good choice is you're looking to prepare an elegant meal for people on a restricted calorie diet.
I bought this a couple years ago in during my second attempt to hop on the South Beach Train. Once again, I liked some of the recipes but I am finding that I must follow my own path of eating mostly in moderation with a splurge here and there.
Excellent book. Excellent diet. Creative recipes.
The only problem i have with this cookbook is that it is very gourmet. So many of the recipes are just too complicated and/or contain uncommon ingredients to make it a favorite.
Nonetheless, it is helpful as a reference to have recipes that work with the diet. There are a lot of good, practical receipes in here, and studying it can give you ideas on how to adapt your recipes to incorporate the principles of hte diet.

Another great cookbook from The South Beach Diet. I can't wait to try some of these recipes!
Lots of fun things to try. I will admit that the Ricotta cheese dessert recipes lack imagination.
I hate cookbooks that don't let me cook with normal ingredients in my pantry.
Another gift. Diet mentality aside, good healthy recipes.
Tons of great recipes.
Excellent recipes!
Lots of GREAT recipes

It was recommended by a friend - and while a lot of the recipes look like they would be both delish and weightloss friendly, they also are not pedestrian enough for my crew.
I like cookbooks to either read for pleasure (so needs stories, good pictures, travel guides or home spun tidbits) or to hand off to my should have been a chef husband. Only he is more James Beard than South Beach.
Might try again now that resolutions have decreed a new diet!
I admit I didn't attempt to make every single recipe in this book, but I sure came close. The ones I did manage were delicious and I felt content knowing that I was eating healthy. Even if you're not on the South Beach Diet I would recommend some of the recipes in here.
I think that the South Beach diet was a great thing. The first 2 weeks are the hardest. After that, life is easy. However, once you go off the diet, it is really hard to get back on. Really, what's life without carbs?
Bread! Bread! Bread! Brrrreeeeeaaaaaadddd!

I liked this book. It had a lot of helpful tips, and the recipes were surprisingly good. Unfortunately, I like chocolate and cake and donuts. Well, you get the picture. If you have the will power, it's a good diet.
I liked the first book's way of categorizing the recipes by the phases of the diet. I'm too tempted to make a phase 3 recipe when it's right there on the next page.
The recipes look good, but are not for those on a budget. I was only able to make a few, most involved cuts of meat or foods that were just too expensive.
Great recipes, lots of pictures, some require a lot of time though! Still a good buy!
A must have if you really want to succeed with this diet
