Danielle The Book Huntress (Self-Proclaimed Book Ninja)

This is not one of my favorite Christina Dodd books. It was decent, but I expect more than decent from her. I think it's a timing thing. Being an extremely moody reader, it's hard when I read something and it doesn't fit what I am feeling at the time.

The Not-So Good:
*I never fell in love with the storyline, to be honest. I didn't like how Roberto and Brandi got together. She picked him up to make herself feel better after her fiance dumped her. Imagine her telling her grandkids that

When Brandi Michaels’ cheating fiancé elopes to Las Vegas, she decides to pawn his engagement ring and treats herself to a one night stand in the arms of a gorgeous stranger. Little does she know that said stranger, Roberto Bartolini, is about to become a whole lot more familiar come morning . . .

A cute read, but Brandi and Roberto’s chemistry is lukewarm at best and the suspense plot lacks any real excitement.

Aside from their mutual attraction, Brandi and Roberto’

Every once in a while, I pick up a book just for the hell of it, just for a fun read. Sometimes, I need a break from the nail-bitting suspense or the horror and terror of other books. This one was refreshing! I laughed a few times, feeling what Brandi was feeling (near the beginning because of the 'ex-fiance' and near the end thinking and feeling like a doormat), tears and laughter make for a pretty good book. I liked Brandi's character, the way she developed is something I enjoyed. No holds bar ...more

Quickie Thoughts:

Trouble in High Heels is a fun book. It was entertaining to listen to and provided a lovely break from the darker more suspenseful books I've been reading lately. Brandi is a girl with serious daddy issues, she is a beautiful girl desperate to prove she is more than a pretty face. When her fiance leaves her to marry his girlfriend, she decides to splurge on herself and have a sexy night of fun. That sexy night lands her in bed with a wealthy Count and suddenly her entire life is
4.5 stars.

This is a pretty great book, especially for Dodd, who is better known for her historicals than her contemporaries. Brandi Michaels is a kick-butt new attorney who, at the beginning of the book, is dumped by her fiance for his pregnant mistress. Instead of getting mad, Brandi decides to get even, right into the arms of an Italian Count who is in legal trouble for suspected jewel theft. It's supposed to be a one night weekend stand, but of course it's discovered that Brandi is on the leg

Very good read. I had trouble putting it down this weekend and finished it in a couple days. I guess I was in need of a little old fashioned romance. lol

When Brandi Michaels uproots her life to move to Chicago to be with her fiance Alan she never suspects that her life is about to change in the way that it is. The day she moves into her new apartment during one of Chicago's coldest winters she gets a phone call from Alan telling her that he has flown off to Las Vegas to marry his pregnant girlf

I really liked this, maybe it's just my mood, because I know there isn't much substance to it. Brandi was what I think all women wish they were when they grew up: witty, smart, gorgeous, successful, self confident, although slightly vulnerable, and don't forget flexible (***smile***hehe). What girl wouldn't want to be all of that? And Roberto, of course he's a perfect hero for this story. And if I'm being honest, probably too perfect. But the whole thing was very enjoyable and easy. A great sexy ...more

Where to start? This book irritated me, confused me and downright upset me so bad I ended up yelling at my husband and cat. I only liked one single part of this book, Chapter One which is more like a Prologue, and every other chapter was either sexiest or boring.

******************** MAJOR SPOILERS********************

The heroine, Brandi, is stupid just like her emotionally abusive and estranged father calls her. She may be an up-and-coming with great grades at law school but she’s naïve with no

This book has been around for a while, but I'm just getting to it. It's the story of Brandi, a beautiful young attorney who uproots from Nashville to Chicago to join her fiance, Allen, a resident at a local hospital. While Brandi is complaining about Allen being MIA at a time when she needs him most, he calls to tell her he's in Las Vegas where he's just married a girl he got pregnant. Adding insult to injury, he's calling because his new wife want's the engagement ring Allen gave to Brandi. Enr ...more

I'm having a hard time to write a review for this one and I don't really know why.
English is not my first language and I'm far from knowing the grammar perfectly but the word repetition drove me crazy. It felt like they were blinking on the page just to annoy me. Pretty silly but couldn't help it.

Well, now that I got this out my chest lets talk about the book. Is a light read and fun, it actually made me laugh a couple times.
It's fantastic and clichè at the same time. The main plot is kind of s

I'm afraid this book falls into the "books I wish I hadn't read" category. Totally. The dialogue was too smarmy for words, the plot was over the top ridiculous, and the heroine was way too sarcastic to be likeable. Not funny at all. I was bummed by the whole thing. It was too bad too because the summary on the back sounded cute and funny, and I love the cover art. Oh well.

This wasn't a literary masterpiece but it was a really fun read that I couldn't put down. Loved the relationship between Brandi and The Count.
It was sweet and a lovely happily ever after.
Since it is a series, I can't imagine what is next. I will look into it and probably listen to more.
The reader did a really nice job.

Definitely a fun read, and a delightfully humorous one. The story may have been a little too light for some, but the characters and humor made up for it. It was actually quite a refreshing change from some of the books I've been reading recently.

Its so refreshing to read a book and truly enjoy it and I did really enjoyed Trouble in High Heels.
Dodd has a way of making the reader connect with the character. Brandi's father for example had me so upset that when she stood up to him I was singing hallelujah. Not only that but her relationship with her mother and the development that happened there was so real you just can't help but connect to that. Roberto was the epitome of a great male character and I loved the easy banter and great chem

This was a fun book. I listened on audible and enjoyed the narration. It was adventurous and flowed well. The comedic content was just enough to keep the book interesting, without taking away the seriousness of the plot. I enjoyed Brandi and I loved how the problem between her and her father was kept relevant and didn't have the "cliched" happy ending. He was a jerk and it was refreshing to see her turn out to be a strong woman despite not having a loving father. I absolutely loved her mother. S ...more
2 stars - it was ok

Nothing to see here, move along now.

That's how I felt throughout most of the book. Things were happening, don't get me wrong, but they just weren't all that interesting.

Things really fell apart about 25% in. I was already rolling my eyes every time Roberto, the male protag, spoke sounding like Count Chocula, but when the narrator starting making all of the other Italian guys sound like either Marlon Brando or Robert Dinero, it became too much.

Honestly, I don't even know how

I was first attracted to this book because of the title, Trouble in High Heels. It sounds like an accurate description of most of the women I know. And if this character, Brandi, was going to make trouble, I SO wanted to be there. I was not disappointed. The author, Christina Dodd, presents a story that almost every woman can relate to – being dumped by a guy. From the very beginning, it’s easy to sympathize and empathize with Brandi. And when she has the nerve to go to a party with the full int ...more

This was a really fun and quick read for me. I thought that Christina Dodd really jumped out and started the story quickly. Brandi Michaels was moving to Chicago in winter to be closer to her fiancé, a fiancé she chose because she felt he was so different from her overbearing and sometimes insulting father. Unfortunately she didn’t realize that this same fiancé couldn’t keep it in his pants. So after he calls from Vegas to say his girlfriend’s pregnant and their getting married, Brandi is ready ...more

This was a fun romp! It's the first in the Fortune Hunter series, and I read #3 first, and found it just ok. The genre must be suspenseful romantic comedy because it had moments of each.

Brandi had just moved to Chicago - in the winter - to be closer to her fiance Alan. She also just got a job with a prestigious law firm in Chicago, which she would start in just a few days. While having trouble getting settled in, what with frozen water pipes and a mistake in her furniture order, she received a c

One of the other reviewers called this book a suspenseful romantic comedy and I think that best sums it up. I loved it! The humor reminded me of Janet Evanovich, the romance of Carly Phillips and the suspense of Linda Howard, all rolled into one book.
