I loved this book! It cracked me up! I would use this book with older students who would understand the overall joke and reason for the couple going to the house. There were so many word plays and hints throughout the book. This would be an excellent book to use when discussing mystery genre and the way hints of often scattered throughout the book. I would like my students to become detectives to solve the mystery in this book. A very silly, yet very intriguing book I could defiantly see using w...more

This is a great book to teach students to look at the pictures and read the pictures as well as the words. The pictures are not only very detailed, but they really tell a part of the story. This would be great to show students why they need to look at the pictures as well as the words to read a book. It is also a great book for predictions. A picture walk in this book would be very beneficial to the students.

Loved this great picture book that would make a perfect intro to the mystery genre in elementary school! There are lots of picture and verbal clues to discover and follow along with the humor that will keep the kids (and you!) laughing! Don't miss the book titles displayed for more clues! My only complaint was the pages with gray text on a black background that made it difficult to read.

First graders look for clues in the pictures as we read this mystery. Someone named "Dr. Hunter" has invited Horace (a pig) and Glenda (a goose) to his mansion for a weekend of fine dining. They happily accept the invitation even though they have never met Dr. Hunter and have no idea who he is, or why he would invite them. The situation gets creepy very quickly

This was a great version of "The Big Bad Wolf." While the wolf was never mentioned directly, secretly the wolf was trying to fatten his guests up so he could serve them on Sunday! Luckily the two guests were smart enough to get out. The pig and bird could not figure out what they were doing there and why the Doctor was not assisting his guests.

Fun story where a couple is invited to a mysterious estate. Particularly fun for read-alouds to have the kids point out when the wolf is watching the unsuspecting food-loving narrator.

Great for read alouds. full of humor. Encourage kids to use their inferring and predicting skills to understand the story.

This book was funny and cute my kids loved it especially when we made our own mysteries.

Charming and funny. I loved reading this aloud in a snobby voice to my little guy. :)

Kind of disturbing and gruesome. I don't really get what this book is trying to tell kids. I think children will enjoy it though. They will have fun finding the wolf in the pictures, and finding all the revealing clues.
