In this lighthearted, funny follow-up to the previous Snowmen bestsellers, our young narrator dreams of a non-melting snowman friend who joins him for all of the year's events. They ride a roller coaster together, dive into a swimming pool in the summer, watch the Fourth of July fireworks, and trick-or-treat on Halloween. It's hilarious, happy wish fulfillment that kids wi...more

Third in a series of snowmen adventures, Snowmen All Year imagines the shared activities a boy and his snowman would enjoy were this the “magic snow (t)hat will not disappear, (a)nd this snowman be the one (t)o stay with me all year!” The cheery, colorful oil and acrylic illustrations make concrete the non-wintry activities of the boy and snowman, from flying kites to trick or treating. Each lively two-page painting is filled with action and contains two ducks, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a rabbit, a c...more

This story is about a little boy who wishes that he could keep his snowman that he built in the winter with him all year long. He goes through various activities that he would do with the snowman like fly kites, go to the zoo, and ride roller coasters. They would play pretend and become pirates. This book goes through each season and the different things they would do together during each season. The snowman would become his closest friend. In the end, the little boy hopes that this winter magic...more

I loved Snowmen at Christmas and Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner. I read these two books sometime every school year to classes. This book was purchased at the school's recent Book Fair and I found it. I needed a book today and thought Aha!! I loved the new book's bright pictures. I loved the boy's wish for a snowman to celebrate all the holidays. The students were trying to find the hidden items on the pages as I read. But they were not having much luck with that since I was holding it up. T...more

"I love to build a snowman on freezing winter days. But when the sun is bright and warm, my snowman melts away. There's nothing but a puddle when my snowman disappears. If only he were magic and could stay with me all year!"
What if you could have a magical snow friend that never melted? Caralyn Buehner's rhyming text explores this possibility and encourages kids to use their imagination. I particularly loved the idea of teaching a snowman how to dive and swim. Great illustrations by the author's...more

This is a fun rhyming story that sparks the imagination of children. What if snowmen could hang out all year? The illustrations are great, although it was quite frustrating trying to find all the hidden pictures. We always found the two ducks and usually found the hidden snowman, but often couldn't find the T-Rex, cat, and rabbit (we usually could find one or two of them, but hardly ever all three.) There are lots of other hidden items in several of the pictures, too, and it was more fun to play...more

I loved Snowmen at Night (2002) and Snowmen at Christmas (2005), the two previous snowmen books by Caralyn (author) and Mark (illustrator) Buehner. They are, quite possibly, the books my grandchildren most often request (after all-time #1 Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, of course) and ones I never tire of reading to them. Because it's been five years since the publication of Snowmen at Christmas I thought we might have seen the last of this series, so I was thrilled to find that the Buehners' had creat...more

This book can be paired with Buehner's other snowmen books to show setting. I actually saw my cooperating teacher do this lesson. She read one of the snowmen book in its entirety, while also pointing out the writer's description of the setting. Then she read the beginning of two other snowmen books to show the students how writers can write about the setting at the beginning of their story to get readers excited about where the story is taking place.

I love snowmen, so to think that snowmen could be around all year is quite fun. The pictures are bright and cheery and it is fun to see what a snowman could do if it could be around all year. This book could lead to a fun activity of making a paper snowman and having the students take it's picture doing different things (going to soccer practice, going to the movies, going on a picnic, etc.) and then following it up with a writing activity.

Summary: A sequel to Snowmen at Night, this book takes the snowmen through the seasons and holidays of the year.

Audience: Children 2-6

Appeal: This is a cute board book with bright colors and humor.

Implementation: I would use this in a public library setting for a display in the children's section for board books at the change of a season. A display with many board books about the topic.

All of the Buehner husband and wife team's snowman books are warmly embraced in our house...in this one snowman magic allows for the frosty guest to stay through all seasons, not just winter. Snowman enjoys activities from flying a kite to going to the beach to trick or treating. Good option for a readaloud to a group who will delight in the snowman's expressions and role as the boy's companion.

If only snowmen could be with us all year long! A boy imagines all the fun he could have with a snowman if only the snowman could last the whole year.

With almost luminescent pictures and fun rhymes and just the right amount of absurdity.

“We’d go on all the wildest rides
At the amusement park,
But best of all would be the fireworks
Lighting up the dark.”
Alissa
I think every kid dreams of having a snowman last past the winter. This book brings that idea to life as a boy names all the fun things he would do with his snowman. The colorful illustrations take you through each season and the festivities that are associated with each one. I love books that come with a bonus too, like finding hidden things on each page!

This book went over really well with the kids, but I will never have them help me pick out hidden pictures in a story again! It was too distracting for some of the kids..and my tactic of 'criss-cross applesauce' didn't encourage them to sit down. A great book, if I would have kept out the hidden picture element for my group.

I know your probably tired of hearing my rant about Caralyn Buehner's snowmen books, but I love them! This one is fun to discuss the four seasons. I give the kids a page with four squares, I have them label them spring, summer, winter, fall then draw pictures of each season to match the word.
Katie
yes this book has a snowman in it but you can read it anytime! it's snowmen ALL year. I enjoy the pictures in this book, they say a lot and get a lot of talking out of the children because there are activtiies that the snowman and the boy do that they have done or enjoy doing!
Cathy
A sequel to Snowmen at Night and Snowmen at Christmas. The kids like to consider what it would be like to have a snowman as your best buddy all year long: swimming in the summer, trick-or-treating at Halloween, flying kites and watching the tigers at the zoo. Just fun!

The Buehner's have done it again. Another great imaginative story of personified snowmen. What would your snowman do with you if he could last all year long. Read to find out what the boy in this book would do.
Carol
Not your everyday snowman book (and a good one to read when it's snowing outside). The snowmen and their monthly activities are sure to make young ones giggle! This book also avoids any holiday terms - just snowmen outside playing.

If you had a magic snowman that didn't melt, where would you take it?
After we read this story, the kindergartners created their own traveling snow people with KidPix. (which provides a wide variety of background scenes to choose from)

What would it be like if you could keep a snowman all year round? I know that my boys would love this! Again, this team of author/illustrator hits another home run as far as I'm concerned because I love all their snowman books!

Companion novel to Snowmen at Night-details activities you could enoy with your snowman if he was around all year, instead of just at Christmas. Keep an eye out for those hidden shapes in the illustrations!
Jennifer
Great pictures! Who knew a snowman could be so expressive? I love Snowmen at Night and this is a little bit of a novelty, but still cute. Would be a good alternative for a winter storytime.
Whitney Zollman
This is a very cute book about a little boy that wishes his snowman could stay with him all year. The children would be able to relate to this, and would really enjoy it!

C'est tellement cute! Si les bonhommes de neige pouvaient vivre toute l'année. Les dessins sont vraiment mignons et en plus c'est un cherche-et-trouve en même temps.
Tara
Who doesn't love a good snowman?? Children will love all the crazy adventures this snowman gets to take part in! This book waqs full of fun illustrations.
Tanya
Two stars for the story.

Three stars for the vibrant art, the catchy rhymes, and the theme of exercising one's imagination/thinking creatively.

What if your Snowman could be with you all year?

One of those stories I don't know when to read. A season's storytime? A "sick of snow" storytime?
