I cannot believe I finally caved in. After the drama of the third book and what it did to my state of mind I declared it unsafe and potentially harmful to myself to read this book. But I am weak. So so weak. *hangs head*

Thank you because people like you who take the time to write a review does help other readers! You take the words out of my mouth. I am feeling your pains about the series. I like Nash and yes he isn't perfect but Kaylee is either! I am almost done with this book (and I will start listens to the next one on my mp3 player later on today) but Kaylee and Nash are driving me crazy!!! Yes Nash gave up his memory of her and let her be use for Frost but she really does not have a clue about people and their addiction and how they are willing to sell their soul to get their next fit! It have nothing to do with if he really love me enough he should has stop! It doesn' t work that way or many people will had stop long time ago. I understand Kaylee not trusting him totally being off the drug because people do fall off the wagon. It only been 2 weeks and that to little of time to ask her to go on blind faith that he wont do Frost. But she cans give him support as a friend. Is that to hard to do? Plus where is Tod supports as a brother for Nash? Why wasn't Tod there to help him when Nash needed someone to talk to? I know the relationship is on thin ice for what Nash has done to Kaylee but he is still his brother. Isn't that one of the reason he take the job as reaper? I know that the only person that can save Nash is Nash but he can use some support from those who claim to love him! I was just hoping that we would get to see their (Kaylee And Nash) relationship grow and they find away to over the hump ( mountain ) and find their way back to each other! I wanted to give it 5 stars because it was a very addictive read but wanted to give it 3 stars because the author pissed me off, leaving me in complete confusion on how I am supposed to feel. So I settled on 4 stars.

Rachel Vincent does it again and knocks another book awesome book out. My Soul to Steal is just as good as everyone says. Filled with raw emotions, a demon out to kill and a love triangle that will leave your heart torn and it’s definitely not one to miss.

My Soul to Steal was another great addition to Soul Screamers. The series definitely has it's ups and downs for me. Somethings bug me - all the teenage angst mainly, but overall it's a good YA series about something we don't get elsewhere, bean shide.

While other times I wanted to support her. "Take your time, honey." She's not really given much of a chance to do either as Nash's not-really-ex Sabine shows up at school. Sabine is beyond messed up and determined to do whatever it takes to get Nash back.

[NOTE: Sabine is mentioned in Tod's novella, [book:Reaper|9680403]. It's not a necessary read, but offers up some insight into Tod and Nash's life pre-reaper.]

Alec is still living with Kaylee and her dad, having escaped Avari in My Soul to Keep. Although he appears to be 19, he's closer to 50, having spent 26 years in the Netherworld.

While Kaylee's struggle to forgive did, at times, drive me bloody mad, I found both her internal battle and Nash's to be what you'd expect based on what happened in the previous book. I will definitely continue with the series and have high hopes for more Tod in the future. He continues to be one of my favorite characters.

Okay. I'm going to give you some friendly advice, Kaylee, because I like you. I really, really do. But I also want to slap you. Hard.

Yes, your ex-boyfriend did something horrible. Yes, he treated you badly. Yes, he lied, he kept secrets and tried his Influence on you. I get that you are pissed.

But when his hot ex-girlfriend comes into town, and tries every possible way to get into your ex-boyfriend's pants, who you still love like crazy, you just don't sit there an...more 4 or 4.5 stars, I can't decide.

Okay. I'm going to give you some friendly advice, Kaylee, because I like you. I really, really do. But I also want to slap you. Hard.

Yes, your ex-boyfriend did something horrible. Yes, he treated you badly. Yes, he lied, he kept secrets and tried his Influence on you. I get that you are pissed.

Would it hurt to at least try and make things right? To try to forgive him and see what a great guy you have there, just waiting for you? Cause that's exactly what he's doing.

You left him to rot for 2 weeks straight, while he was trying to fight his addiction FOR YOU. He was trying to get better FOR YOU. He was working so damn hard to keep himself together FOR YOU. And what did you do? Right, ignore the shit out of him.

Then the ex pops up, openly declaring a war. And what do you do? You try to hurt Nash as much as possible, you throw back everything in his face AND assume he'll just go back to Sabine. You almost want him to fuck up. I cannot understand why you are trying to push him away when all he's trying to do it get close to you, EVEN WITH SABINE BREATHING DOWN BOTH YOUR NECKS.

It's not like he hasn't have girls lining up to be with him. The fact that he's sticking around, even while he can get some someplace else, SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO PROVE HIS LOYALTY. GOD. GET A CLUE.

It's your turn now, Sabine. You are beyond pathetic. Yes, you didn't have an amazing life. Boohoo. I understand that Nash is the only 'good' thing you've ever had in your life (at least that's so in your delusional mind), but for god's sake, it was just sex. Lots and lots of it, apparently, but still. Your insecurities and your attempts at trying to scare Kaylee away are just hilarious. I reached for the popcorn several times while watching you in action.

And now you, Tod. WTF? Are you that desperate for Kaylee's attention or do you secretly hate your brother that much? GOD. I don't even understand what your deal is. You try to make Kaylee see the nature of the relationship between Nash and Sabine, and then a few chapters later you are telling Kaylee to let Nash go if she really cares about him. I'm really not in the mood to deal with you right now.

And last but not least: Nash. I love you. Never stop being awesome.

She is a mara, literally Kaylee's worst nightmare, so she has an entire arsenal up her sleeve. When I first read the description for this book I was convinced I would hate Sabine, just because I wouldn't like anyone who could come between Kaylee and Nash. So imagine my surprise when it turns out that I actually like her, a lot. Sure on the outside she may be very manipulative and vindictive, but that's only the surface. Underneath, she is very fragile and has a lot of issues, which considering her past, this is completely understandable. She really loves Nash, and he has been the only constant thing in her entire life so she is convinced that she cannot survive without him. Everything she does to Kaylee, and trust me some of it is nasty, is only because she loves him, not because it's a game to steal Nash from her. I think perhaps in time Sabine could become strong enough to stand on her own two feet and not need Nash so much, but only time will tell.

In this book I was simultaneously proud of and frustrated with Kaylee. She really held to her guns in needing space from Nash and refusing to just jump back into his arms. That took a lot of strength and guts and that is why I was proud of her. However, the reason I was frustrated was that I felt she took the separation to the extreme. She loves him and wants to be with him, but then refused to see him the entire time he was going through withdraw and even longer after that. I just think that if she really wanted him to stay clean, then she needed to help support him, because it only makes it so much harder to resist without love and support. I understand that he did some pretty horrible things, perhaps unforgivable, but the point was that she wanted to forgive him, so she shouldn't have hung him out to dry while he was trying to recover. It's going to be a long bumpy road ahead and I can only hope the two of them will find a way to make it work.

I really enjoyed this book, even more so than the last one. It read very fast and ties things up pretty well. The ending isn't really a cliffhanger, so that is a little relief compared to the cliffhanger of the previous book. I am still very eager to read the next book as things seem to be headed in a very interesting direction. I look forward to more of Sabine, and of course my favorite character, Tod. I can only imagine the trouble that is in store for them and I can't wait to find out how they handle it. The only reason I'm not giving this a perfect rating is due to Kaylee's lack of support for Nash, but otherwise, it was a very good book that I highly recommend. (less)

I loved how the story played out. Kaylee's thoughts and emotions were very real. The way she was torn about getting back together with Nash was believable and I liked how resolute she was in making sure of her feelings before even attempting to dive back into a relationship with him. Nash has yet to redeem himself in my eyes although he was working hard to regain Kaylee's trust. The new character, Sabine was straightforward and honest to a fault. She's the type who knows what she wants and will do everything to get it.

And Tod... I absolutely loved Tod! Some think that the shift in his attitude came out of nowhere but I sort of I saw it coming in My Soul to Keep given how furious he was at Nash when he found out about Avari possessing Kaylee and Nash letting it happen. I thought the author did an awesome job with clueing the readers about Tod's feelings without hammering us on the head with it. Rachel Vincent definitely knows how to build anticipation and I'm excited to read about what happens next.

The book was not all teenage angst and drama either. Of course, there's a mystery involving the Netherworld. This part of the story felt a little weird. I don't want to give out details but I don't think a small place would have so much death and chaos and yet people went their merry way. Limbs were being crushed and authorities felt something was awry and yet they chucked it up to teen hormones. What, not even a moment of silence for those who passed away? It was simply unbelievable.

That being said, I still think My Soul to Steal is a very good read. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.(less)

Okay, so basically if you're familiar with the series, you know the main characters are Kaylee, Nash, Emma and Tod, and to a lesser extent Kaylee's dad, Nash's mom, Kaylee's cousin Sophie, etc. After Nash's actions in the previous book, Kaylee is -- understandably -- hesitant to trust him for much of My Soul to Steal and her inner turmoil is exploited even more when his ex-girlfriend Sabine comes to town and makes it clear that she'll do anything to get Nash back.

This book felt like pure filler, like it wasn't a novel in and off itself but something meant to bridge between this and the next book. I was bored by a lot of the inaction, which isn't something I've experienced in the series before. I've felt a lot of things about Rachel Vincent's writing and I didn't particularly like the main character in her adult series, but I've never felt quite so blah and bored before.

A new character, Sabine, was introduced with little to no finesse. I've felt a lot of things about Rachel Vincent's writing and I didn't particularly like the main character in her adult series, but I've never felt quite so blah and bored before.

A new character, Sabine, was introduced with little to no finesse. It felt like Vincent dropped a sack of flour down and decided that was enough, mission accomplished, except the sack of flour was a girl who irritated me to no fucking end. It felt like Vince couldn't move the story forward any other way. Sabine's presence, her back history with Nash, her entire personality -- it all felt way too convenient. Everything about Sabine was designed for DRAMAROAR in the main character's life. It wasn't helped by how the main character felt like Sabine was a punishment from God. Seriously, flat out addressing the randomness and how awful Sabine was just felt like knocking on the fourth wall and playing too the audience. It didn't make Sabine feel more natural which was clearly the purpose.

Even Tod, whom I've liked before, had awkward scenes that felt inserted for relationship drama with no other purpose. He suffered from some personality whiplash in the story, filling whatever role Vincent needed him to fill at that particular moment.

Step one: Tod was on Kaylee's side against his brother for all the horrible, horrible things he did to her.

Step two: Tod notified Kaylee about Sabine's true nature so his brother couldn't lie to her some more/she would be safe.

Step three: Tod drags Kaylee to spy on Sabine and Nash so she can see the true nature of their relationship, seemingly so that she can see their bond wasn't just about sex and him rejecting any sexual overtures she made.

Step four: Tod informs Kaylee that she is destroying Nash's life by not letting him go off and frolic with Sabine because he so clearly belongs with Sabine. He tells her that the shiny and new has worn off her relationship with Nash and she's never going to get it back so she might as well toss him to the literal Nightmare who has plagued her life because that is the loving, caring, and unselfish thing to do! Despite his brother really only wanting a second chance with Kaylee and only getting clean from his drug addiction so he can be with Kaylee. (Tod now feels despite being all of Nash's motivation for getting clean Kaylee is now interfering with his sobriety.)

Either Rachel Vincent slowly destroyed the integrity of Tod's character for the sake of relationship!dramaz or Tod is in love with Kaylee and courting her in a pretty amoral fashion, pretending concern for her and his brother.

The messed up thing is I have NO IDEA which it is. Seriously, flip a mother freaking coin.

This book felt blah, fillery and I think the character integrity was severely damaged in the process. I'll probably stick with the series enough for book five but unless there's a lot more clarity and some fast banking upward I'm checking out of the series and possibly out of Rachel Vincent as a writer.(less)

The author’s sarcasm and wit, especially in the interactions between Tod and Kaylee, add yet another layer to this series that is already multifaceted.

The series moves fluidly from one book to the next. Where one story ends the other begins with hardly a pause, making it nearly impossible for the reader to stop until they’ve devoured all four-and-a-half books.

My Soul to Steal is a quick read, but one that will keep the reader twisted in knots from beginning to end as Kaylee fights for Nash, for Emma, and for her soul.

The next book in the series, If I Die, comes out in the fall of 2011.

I didn't even put the book down the moment I started reading....but it was too fast....MYGOD Kaylee didn't even had a chance to take a breath......
and in the end of the story I ended up with a headache.....but still loved the story...
and also I noticed some progress in it too .I guess Tod is ganna tell Kaylee his feelings....please please Kaylee...take Tod damn it

I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it for every teenager on the planet. Watching this character wrestle with demons - at times, literally - is an education in itself (by the way, the head demon - Satan - is defined by the word liar. So I don't like the idea that demons can't lie. I think that's a misnomer). There is a little of "I can't trust him and don't want him, but you can't have him either." There is some "you don't deserve him." There is a lot of "I don't deserve you, I'm worthless." And there is a whole lot of "I'm worthless" in general, followed by serious overtones of "are you kidding? You're more important than anything!"

Kaylee frustrated me a lot in this book. I'm not sure if it's a difference in my personality and the personality of the character, but there were several times I wished she either let herself cry or give in to her reigning emotions. She always did the logical, smart thing rather than the emotional thing. I think this kept the tension going in the book. But I think I would have sided with her more often if she had just let herself be weak for a moment. She held onto her resentment for a long time - perhaps understandably so. But she really did seriously punish Nash. Some forgiving but not totally forgetting - there are consequences to every "sin" - would have been in order.

Nash is completely sympathetic, if a little vain over two girls fighting for him. Sabine is sympathetic because we pity her for what she is and where's she's been. Alec is sympathetic because he has no control. Honestly, if I heard one more of these characters say "I'll never let it happen again, Kaylee, I swear on my life" I thought I would scream.

Two things impressed me deeply about this book. The first was the way Sabine would talk to Kaylee. She spoke such truth and insight. She came from such an honest, tortured place with such amazing, astonishing perspective that I marveled at the maturity of this writing. Wow.

The second was the conversation between Tod and Kaylee regarding her relationship with Nash. Again, so honest and insightful. Both of these perspectives came from maturity way beyond teenage years - and as such, give the YA audience (and the rest of us) a chance to re-evaluate our own motives at times.

Also of note is the way the central romance - Kaylee and Nash - is being handled slowly and with such care. We aren't being rushed into anything with these characters. They may make it together or they may not. But either way, we are not left hanging to wonder overmuch. She gives us total resolution without actual direction, and that is one gifted storyteller.

I can't wait to get into the next book. Of the four thus far, this is the most emotional and probably the best for that reason. It brings the phrase "wrestling with your demons" to a whole new level.(less)

MY SOUL TO STEAL definitely delievered and had me hooked, the series continues to be awesome, there's jealousy, mystery, terror all mixed together to create another great edition to the series.

Though I found Sabine herself irritating and immature, I can't deny that I loved the drama that accompanied her arrival. While most YA authors split their main characters relationship up just so they can put it back together quickly, Vincent is taking her sweet time and adding more elements to the mix in order to spice things up. I'm glad Kaylee and Nash are having issues - if she'd taken him back easily after what he did to her whilst on Frost, it wouldn't have been believable. Tod played a big part in this book, not only as Nash's brother, but also as Kaylee's friend - if that makes any sense. There were a few moments in this book where his caring side really showed through the snarky wit and unhelpful advice. He's a fantastic character, and I'm glad that Vincent has continuously developed him from the first book.

The plot was excellent and, as is with all of Vincent's books, far from predictable. To figure things out, you had to take all of the subliminal clues and piece them together whilst getting frustrated because the twists and turns take you in the completely opposite direction. I love how Vincent isn't afraid to tackle some of the bigger problems when it comes to teenagers - most notably, pressure over sex. Even the thought of Nash Influencing Kaylee into his bed is something many YA authors wouldn't dream of, and you can forget about the drugs, too. Vincent seems to dig deeper into the behaviour of many teenagers than most authors and I think that's what makes her such a fantastic author. The supernatural elements, too, are something that I've never read about before. Vincent's pooled all this folklore and created a series that is original, yet incorporates many of the things most readers enjoy in these kinds of books. I've said it before and I'll say it again: you should definitely read this series.

The Soul Screamers series has absolutely stepped up its game. I haven't really enjoyed the previous two books in the series but I'm glad I didn't stop because My Soul to Steal is amazing. A riveting plot involving mysterious deaths at Kaylee's high school, coupled with the emotional drama between Kaylee, Nash and his ex girlfriend Sabine made for a compelling read that I could not put down. A riveting plot involving mysterious deaths at Kaylee's high school, coupled with the emotional drama between Kaylee, Nash and his ex girlfriend Sabine made for a compelling read that I could not put down. I was another late night for me!

Finally, finally, Kaylee's (un)common sense kicks in and she enlists the help of her father and uncle when people started mysteriously dying at her school. They help her every step of the day and she even admits it was great to not have all the responsibility fall on her for once. She still goes through a lot and has some awesome (deadly) adventures, but I was glad that she told the adults in her life when she suspected something weird was up. There is a lot going on in the book and for a long time it's unclear how much of it is caused by something supernatural. I liked how it all came together though, and left me with an ending I was satisfied with, but still wanting more.

The book is a lot more focussed on the relationships between characters than those preceding it, and we get to see Kaylee and Nash attempt to work through all the issues that came up in the last book. It's all made very difficult by Sabine, who uses her freaky-deaky powers to invade Kaylee's dreams and turn them into nightmares based on her deepest fears. One of the things I enjoyed is Sabine's tenacity - she never once backed down and I think, oddly enough, I liked that about her. Nash also improves in my eyes throughout the book because he makes it clear to Sabine that he is in love with Kaylee. I think Kaylee was a little harsh on him about Sabine, considering all he can do is tell her he's not interested - he can't stop her "actively trying to get into his pants".

I've always enjoyed the premise of Soul Screamers and love getting to know about the world that Rachel Vincent has created, and I think she delivers a wonderful tale in My Soul to Steal. I can't believe how much I enjoyed this book - I liked it even better than the first one! I'm sticking to my guns and advising readers to stick with the series, it's worth it just to read this book!
