Wow what a book! Tami Hoag uses misdirection upon misdirection upon misdirection to confuse the shit out of you. Man, the story leads you in one direction, to one killer and then WHAM it's not him! And then there's another likely suspect and it's not him. again and again and again. I just love it. A Thin Dark Line really keeps you guessing right up until the final chapter. Again just WOW!

Deputy Annie Broussard gets entangled in the murder of Pam Bission since she is the one who found the body. D...more

I received this book as a gift and it's not my usual fare to say the least, but I thought, what the hell, I'll see what it's like.

This book most reminded me of the standard Hollywood-flavor-of-the-week-lowest-common-denominator thriller. You know the type I'm sure. Those movies that people watch just for the sake of something to watch when they don't feel like watching a romantic comedy starring Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock.

That's about the kindest thing I can think of to say about this book. I...more

A THIN DARK LINE - VG
Hoag, Tami - standalone

Set in Bayou, the novel centres around a mission to nail a killer who walked free because of a technicality. On his trail, the cop whose mistake cost him the case, and his deputy, Annie Broussard, leading Nick Fourcade into an obsessive search for justice and truth, and Annie in to a dilemma where she must defend or accuse him.

I always enjoy Hoag and particularly like her books set in Bayou country. She writes great sexy men and strong women, add attra...more

This book is a Tami Hoag classic- full of deep and dark characters, suspenseful twists and turns, and a sexy bayou backdrop.

By the end of the book, the reader is a half-step ahead of the main character in fingering the killer- and practically yelling at Annie "NO DON'T DO THAT!!!" - which I think is the mark of a successful suspense novel.

Another review I read said this book is boring and predictable, but I don't think that is at all true- you SHOULD be able to figure out a book before the ver...more

As a novelist, I strive for the talent Tami Hoag displays in this book. She tells the story so skill-fully that you cannot put the book down from beginning to end. The characters are complex and multi-dimentional, and I loved both of them for their strengths and their weaknesses. The ending is carried through to fulfilment, and I just love this book. It is my favourite. Tami Hoag is my favourite author. She is wonderful.

At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. It started introducing so many characters that I had a hard time following, but maybe around page 50 or so, it got better. Pam Bichon is a wife and mother who was murdered in the most gruesome way possible. Marcus Renard was arrested for the murder. He was stalking her, leaving her gifts, and taking her rejection as just a put-off because she was still married but in the process of getting a divorce. Nick Fourcade is the lead detective on...more

Dark and disturbing for it deals with various mental illnesses within one family. Deputy Annie Broussard wants to be a detective on the Bayou Breaux, LA police force. Her tenacity, desire for justice (even when it hurts personally), and the harassment by her fellow officers make for an interesting, though sinister mystery. Just enough love interest, but like so many of these novels, there are gratuitous sex scenes which really add nothing to the story. I am sorry that the explicit descriptions o...more

A dear friend of mine (KEELY!) forced me to read this horrid book years ago... and I still haven't thought up an appropriate punishment.

I hated Cry Wolf. I hated Jack and how he treated Laurel. If any man treated me like that he would be slapped until it was not possible to slap him anymore. Also the romance was 50% of the novel (thank you Kindle). This book was the opposite of that Nick treated Annie with as much respect as a horny man can. He was neither patronizing nor condescending. I knew from the get go that Marcus was not our killer. That was too easy. However, I was surprised with who the killer ended up being. That was...more

Loved the suspense.

Other reviewers will give you the plot line, but needless to say it has a few twists and turns. It is gruesome in parts and I shuddered quite a lot when reading some of the details.

I thought this was a very well written book. I liked the relationship between Annie Broussard and Nick Fourcade because it developed over time and both were troubled in their own way. I'd love to see more of them. Yes, I felt sorry for AJ, but sometimes that happens in life. The nice guy doesn't always get the girl....more

Thrilling complex plot marred by ugliness, brutality, & hate...

This was our first crime thriller by Tami Hoag, but we can see why she is a successful author with over a dozen novels and a loyal fan base to her credit. Assuming "Thin Dark Line", set in Cajun Louisiana, is representative of her work, she crafts a complex, intriguing story that manages to hold one's interest until a suspenseful, twisty climax! In this tale, cops and potential perpetrators exchange roles so often one almost need...more

Ahhh, just as I remembered! "A Thin Dark Line" claims to be the fourth (and last) part of the Doucet series, Tami Hoag's little Cajun-country romp into the swamps and streams of the bayou in south Louisiana. Hoag goes so far as to provide a nice Cajun dictionary in the back of the book with the phrases and meanings of what her characters are saying. (I wish a pronunciation guide was included, but I have imagination enough to help me out.)

I think "A Thin Dark Line" stands alone by itself just fin...more

Wow, talk about a 'chilling' novel!! Justice, revenge and your own presumptions of guilt and innocence make this novel a masterpiece.

From back cover:

"Terror stalks the streets of Bayou Breaux, Louisianna. A suspected murderer is free on a technicality, and the cop accused of planting evidence against him is ordered off the case. But Detective Nick Fourcade refuses to walk away. He's stepped over the line before. This case threatens to push him over the edge.

This is another book that I read a long time ago. However, I recently read it again. It is a good mystery. I had three suspects and was trying to help the detectives as if I were a part of the novel. The book is an older one but a really good read. By the time the killer was revealed I was ready to jump out of my skin with trying to figure it all out and tell the main character to run, but it was too late. Yes, I totally enjoyed this book.

This was a reread for me also, but soooo worth it. Didn't take me long to remember who-dun-it, but I recall the first time I read it I was completely thrown by the twist. This one had a lot more Doucet's in it and several mentions of the last story in the series and the main characters in the previous two books, thus tying them all together more firmly.

This is the first Tami Hoag mystery I have read. It was recommended to me by a friend who knows I am currently reading JD Robb's In death series. This book was great. I never felt as if the book was slowing. It kept a good pace and by the time I was nearing the last 100 pages, I couldn't read fast enough...I was at the edge of my seat. Not too many books have given me that feeling. I will definitely read another Tami Hoag mystery. Give this one a try.

This is an enjoyable book. I've only read a few of Tami Hoag's books and not series order. I would recommend reading them in order, however. The characters in this book were likable and interesting. The best part was that, up until the end, I did not guess who the murderer was and this is rarely the case with me! I will
read more of Ms. Hoag's books in the future. I also liked the setting--Louisiana Bayou country--very much.

I didn't really know what to think when I picked this book up. It was kinda random. But it was so good. I still reread it. The author just pulls you in to the world of French Louisiana and you can feel as if you're really in the bayous and whatnot. And I'm just a sucker for a good murder mystery.

I was pleasantly surprised when I finally read this book! Super thriller! Lots of twists and turns that I didn't figure out ahead of time. (Gotta love that!) Liked the characters a lot. Intriguing back stories really added to the plot. I'll definitely read more by this author!

This is one of my favorite Hoag books. Jack is such a damaged, reluctant hero, strongly masculine but wounded and sensitive in his own way. He is wonderful. Hoag captures the rich pattern of personalities in the bayou.

The ending was bitter/sweet for me. I won't go into specifics but I didn't think so much blood would be shed. I enjoyed this book because it was more of a suspense book than a romance book. Having the love/hate relationship I have with Romantic suspense made me a little skeptical... but all's well. I spent the last two weeks reading every Hoag book I have in my collection and I have to say this one ranks high on the list of the ones I enjoyed. Her writing is very fluid and I love the picture she...more

I really enjoyed this book. There were far too many occasions when the Lord's name was used as an expletive and I do not appreciate that. It was on nearly every page and added nothing to the story. The story itself was fascinating, with a really nice twist at the end. The characters were likable and well-written.

This book did have the feel of being a second in a series or something. There were times when it seemed like the author thought I would already know something about the characters. There...more

This was a pretty good book; thrilling and humorous with just the right mix of suspense and mystery. With enough "red herrings" to fill a seafood buffet, it kept me guessing until the end.

Decent book, but a little underwhelmed with the ending...was hoping for more. The book does start out slow. I had to read the beginning pages a couple of times to get all the characters straight. In a weird way, Annie and Nick remind me of a modern day Beauty and the Beast. Definitely lots of misdirection, but I feel like the actual murderer was a bit far-fetched.

Only my second audio book. I must say this was really enjoyable. The narrator was Diane Venora and her rendition of this book was fantastic. Was my first Tami Hoag book but will not be my last.

Tami Hoag is a great murder mystery/suspense writer. Although her writing is similar in most of her books, she always spins a great tale.

I always find Tami Hoag's books to be worth the time. I like her characters and the prediciments in which they find themselves.

Tami Hoag is an excellent writer of suspense! Great read full of twists and turns and really strong characters.

Loved this series...perhaps because of the setting in the bayous of Lousianna, one of my favorite places to visit!
