I’ve become a fan of romantic suspense. What can I say? There’s something about the danger and a man of honor willing to lay it all on the line for his team, his country and the people he loves. This series looks at a group of men assembled for black-ops. Undercover international operatives that are not acknowledged by the government but go in and do the dirty work no one else wants to. The name of this team is Nightshade (also title of the first book) and is made up of men with dark pasts who h...more

Why did I wait so long to read this book? It was sitting on my bookshelf for over a year and then I finally grabbed it 3 days ago. I was very busy those last 3 days and that's not the best time to grab a Ronie Kendig book. You have to read Ronie's books in one sitting, but I had to do it in 3. When I wasn't reading I was thinking about how the story would continue. There was not one moment that the story was slow or not interesting.

I really felt for our sniper Cowboy--Colton Neeley. He has to li...more

The second novel in the Discarded Heroes series, Digitalis packs even more action, adventure, and intensity than Nightshade.

After several tours of duty, Marine sniper Colton “Cowboy” Neeley is suffering from debilitating flashbacks. After an episode that put his family at risk, his friend offers him a way out of the Marines and a way to get help. Knowing he can’t continue like this, he accepts his friend Griffin’s offer – and joins the group Nightshade – but the flashbacks don’t go away.

"Digitalis" is a fast-paced romantic suspense novel. The suspense was created by the near-constant physical danger and some relationship angst. This book was the second in the series, but you don't have to read "Nightshade" to follow this story. Reading them out of order will spoil only the romantic outcome of the first novel.

I suspect a lot of people will really like this novel, but I didn't. In "Nightshade," Colton seemed like a really cool character who had a lot of potential for a deep story...more

While delivering an astounding high energy, nail-biting suspense story, Ronie Kendig has mastered the art of having the story’s message pierce your heart and her quirky endearing characters feel like family. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to read the review copy I received, which is the second book in the "Discarded Heroes" series. I’ve read all of Ronie Kendig’s book so far and think Digitals is her best work yet.

This author masterfully weaves the right amount of action, adventure and romance...more

Ronie Kendig's debut novel Dead Reckoning set the bar high, Nightshade popped over the top and Digitalis clears it with air to spare! Ronie Kendig has stamped herself as the premier author of romantic thrillers in Christian writing today. Digitalis, the sequel to the brilliant Nightshade, is nothing short of a cinematic experience in written form. With the relentless action of The Bourne Identity, the electrifying chemistry of Speed and the emotional punch of A Few Good Men, Digitalis is a stoma...more

He's a sniper and a rancher. With call sign Cowboy, Colton Neeley is part of a special, non-existent black ops team, Nightshade. He has a problem though, he frequently has flashbacks that take him away from the present and endanger those around him.

Piper Blum is a sales clerk who attracts the attention of Colton. But Colton feels that she is not who she seems, or is she? Why does she avoid his attentions and what is it about her that draws him?

Piper has a secret, one that means the life of someo...more

I liked this book even better than the first one, Nightshade. This is Cowboy's story.

Colton is another discarded hero. He suffers debilitating flashbacks from combat-related trauma and also from witnessing losing his sister to a murderer (I refuse to call them suicide bombers). But he still manages to care for his 4-year-old daughter and work as a sniper for the black ops team called Nightshade.

Piper is in hiding from assassins that want information from her that will help kill her family, as w...more

Ronie Kendig is absolutely one of my favorite new suspense authors! I don't know where she comes up with this stuff but I hope she keeps bringing it because I just love her books! She has a style that just keeps me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. With this particular series I love how she is taking each member of this renegade team and devoting a book to each of them. It is giving us these amazingly different viewpoints on the various guys from the inside out. Cowboy is an extremely...more

My first impressions? It's a nice setting to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. I can appreciate the high tension, the non-stop action, the break-neck pace, but I'm just not sure I can make military stories a regular part of my diet.

I dunno, chalk it up to the fact I'm a girlie girl. I like purses and Starbucks and frou-frou shower gels from the cosmetic counter. I found myself skimming over some of the fight scenes to get to the romance.

But the romance was good, all angst and restraine...more

Ronie Kendig never ceases to amaze me. "Rapid-Fire Fiction" describes her awesome books to a tee! Each time I pick up a book by her, I know I am in for a wild adventure. Within minutes, I’m completely sucked into the characters and their situations. By the time it comes to a heart pounding ending, I’m dying for more! Digitalis was A-MAZ-ING!! Totally. Her entire Discarded Hero series is completely awesome and one that will remain proudly on my favorites bookshelf for forever! After reading all t...more

Ronie has created another masterpiece! Her writing is amazing and I am continually surprised at her imagination and creativity. The more I read the more I want.

Colton is one of my favorite characters of Ronie’s. He is strong and faithful. He is there for his friends. He’s that ‘good old boy’ cowboy that everyone can’t help but love. But we find out that he carries scars on the inside like the most that serve in the military and/or see the terrible things he has seen and had to do. Piper is a str...more

Reading any of Ronie Kendig's books is like watching the latest action-adventure blockbuster. I feel like they should come with the standard warning they give you when you get on a roller-coaster: "Keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times and keep your seat-belt securely fastened." lol This author knows how to write an exciting book!

Piper and Cowboy are very sweet together. I liked both of them very much and the way they cared about one another and the problems that caused was ... dif...more

When I read the first book in this series I got really excited about the idea of a series like this and so I immediately picked up the second book, this book "Digitalis".

Though I read it, and there were some great fast paced, action moments, and some good love story moments the over all story just bugged me. Things seemed too tidy and then too messy.

The story was all over the place and the main character in this book "Cowboy" was a great character in the first book, he was the level headed man...more

At first I wondered what could possible compete with Book 1 Nightshade...and then I started reading Digitalis. I couldn't put it down!!! I started it this morning and finished it only a few minutes ago. The story was so complex, but so geniusly woven that it not only kept you reading, but you actually understood what was going on (which is something I don't often see in this type of story). Colten was one of my favorite characters from the first book, so it was amazing reading his story and Pipe...more

Are you an adventurer? Love our military and honor their extreme sacrifice? Want to read a book that will get your heart pumping, both from the excitement and the romance? Then this is the book for you. I loved Nightshade, but Digitalis was outstanding. Ms. Kendig has now become the queen of military romantic suspense. Love the characters! I felt their pain, their anguish, their fear, their joy.. their love. I adored "Cowboy". He and his fellow special-ops crew make me believe in heroes again. I...more

Colton is my favorite Discarded Hero. He has God the forfront of his life yet it shows that he doubts and God still comes through.

I love how he is great with his family and friends yet is dealing with the hurt from the military. I love Piper/Lily and how strong she is in God and her love for Colton. It was super fast how they lell in love and started being so straight forward with each other but I guess we did not have much time to get to know each other and still have the conflicts of secrets...more

DIGITALIS, the second installment in the Discarded Heroes Series, keep me on the edge of my seat, book firmly in hand.

With a daughter to raise, he thinks long and hard regarding his future. Lately, he also finds himself thinking of Piper Blum, a sales clerk at a local st...more

Man!

No really…what a man!

I am not a thriller reader. I like suspense and will watch the occasional Law and Order LA, but I am not a thriller reader.

DIGITALIS and Ronie Kendig have made me a thriller reader.

I think what made this book so appealing is the romance. Let’s be honest here, Colton “Cowboy” is one hunky hero. Right. Off. The. Bat. This book got going. I thought maybe at first it was moving “too” fast, but quickly changed my mind. Piper and Colton’s romance smolders just below the surfa...more

Ronie Kendig is an award-winning, bestselling author who grew up an Army brat. She married her own hunky hero, who’s an Army veteran. After twenty-plus years of marriage, she and her husband have a full life with four children and two dogs. Ronie’s degree in psychology has helped her pen novels of raw, broken characters. Since launching onto the publishing scene, Ronie’s Rapid-Fire Fiction has hit...more

And you're gong to stand there and tell me it's God's will? Why should I pray? It hasn't done me much good." Yitshak drew back, he brow again knotted. "What?
