I almost didn't get this book. But it was on clearance and the price was right (2 packs of smokes or half a bag of Ruffles) so I gave it a try. I wasn't disappointed.
I've seen the movie and this is a great after movie treat. Kind of like a deleted scene or two. There were a lot of changes from the final draft to the screen, but it is essentially the same story: a Jewish woman's revenge and a scalping filled romp by the Basterds.
Watch the movie and then read this book.

Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is the screenplay for the revenge war film of the same name. Moviegoers love Tarantino's films for a multitude of reasons or they hate them for a multitude of reasons, but the screenplay provides a whole new insight into the filmmaker and his work.

Author David L. Robbins says in the forward, "The script remembers, too, the classic propaganda films of Leni Riefenstahl and Joseph Goebbels. It glimpses the faces of Hitler and Churchill and the interior of a

Wow! Where do I begin? Tarantino does not let us down in this World War II Nazi-infested tale of survival and gruesome murders (ahh, the irony). The screenplay parallels two different stories. The first being with Shosanna Dreyfuss. She's a jewish girl hiding from the Nazi's under the floorboards of a German Farmhouse. Her family gets machine-gunned by Colonel Landa's minions in front her. She is the only survivor. Her mission in life stays the same: survival but with a twist -- get revenge. The ...more

Not as good as the film but still interesting enough (for those who have already seen the film). I imagine I would be quite disapointed if I had read the book first because it would have spoiled the surprise. However, it provides an interesting comparison between the film adaptation and the original version of screenplay which is slightly different and these tiny differences (scenes which didn't appear in the movie) are what makes it worth to read this screenplay. That and the fact that Tarantin ...more

It's nice to see that the movie and the script are really alike! But let's be honest, the ending is off the charts in the movie!

Just as engaging as the movie. Tarantino's energy and excitement really comes through in the scene descriptions and dialogue. It's audacious, funny, dramatic, irresponsible, repulsive at times, and highly original all while paying homage and referencing what has come before.

There's also a lot of extra content that is not in the film that fills in backstory and adds some layers to some of the characters.

A French farmer is hiding a Jewish family from the Nazis on his farm during World War II. When Nazi soldiers search his farm and promise he and his family won’t be punished, he reveals the hiding place of the Jewish family. Sixteen year old Shoshanna manages to escape, flee to Paris and make a new life for herself, vowing revenge against the Nazis.

A team of top-notch, Jewish-American soldiers is put together by Lt. Aldo Raine during World War II. Disguised as civilians, they are dropped into Ger

One night I was left alone because my mother was on a trip, so I turned on the DVD and decided it was a movie night. I watched Dracula first, I had never seen it before and it scared me enough to turn up the lights.

After this episode I checked the other movies I had bought and wanting to watch something entirely different I put Inglourious Basterds on; I had seen a couple of movies of Tarantino and since his works are nice I thought his new movie could put a different spark on my current situati

I'm a big fan of this movie so I was delighted to discover a published screenplay by Quentin Tarantino.

It's a great book to own if you are a fan of the movie, it gives a little more depth and background to the story and characters.

There was a surprising amount written in the screenplay which never made it into the movie and I for one was glad to see the scene where the cinema was destroyed was changed for the movie as I feel the movie scene was better than the one originally written by Tarantin

Quentin Tarantino is infamous for his witty dialogue and engrossing characters, so it can be assumed that his rendition of "Inglorious Basterds" ought to be rife with ridiculous conversation and unique characterization. Right from page one, Tarantino sucks the reader in with a scene between milk farmer, Perrier LaPadite, and the Nazi Colonel, Hans Landa, in which the sophisticated Nazi switches between two different languages and outwits Sir LaPadite. While Inglorious Basterds certainly isn't as ...more

Being a rabid fan of this movie, it was cool to read the screenplay and imagine how the story exists without pictures. I found that Lt. Aldo's (Brad Pitt) lines translated almost untouched from script to screen. Christoph Waltz brings so many idiosyncrasies to his role as Krnl Landa that reading him on the page is almost a wholly different experience. I was surprised; it really shines the spotlight on him, when you see what's NOT in the script, vs what IS on the screen.
Many little plot addition

"Inglorious Bastards" by Quentin Tarantino is a great story telling us about the cruel and inhuman treatment, which the Jews received from Nazis. The Nazis have done every each immoral act that could be imagined in the nightmares of human minds and in this book they got what they deserved. It also shows how much hate the Jews have felt for Hitler and his army and how insane they could be driven after what they experienced. Another important thing worth to mention could be the fact that many Jewi ...more

Pick Nazis, SS, SD, Jews, American redneck, Englishman, baseball bat, spice it with Hitler and lot of blood which mix in the alternative history story and you would have two things utter idiocy or the balls ripping thing. Tarantino showed his best again and made moving bloody story about revenge on the grand scale. It is not Kill Bill thing it is kill them all thingie.

I like to read about violence, but I can barely tolerate it in cinema. Everything grosses me out so I have to read the screenplay or novel first or instead. Such is the case of Inglorious Basterds. I read this glorious screenplay about Nazi hunters and loved every sick detail of it. While not historically accurate, it is insightful about the weird agenda of Goebbels and Hitler and cinema.

Tarantino writes brilliantly. Reading the screenplay presents several benefits over simply viewing the film. One being we get a much firmer grasp on the implications of several scenes in the movie--the choking scene being one exceptionally notable instance.

Estoy fangirleando.

Best screenplay I've read. Incidentally the only screenplay I've read. The film was my pick for best picture of 2009, and it's interesting to notice the small changes they made during filming. Great dialog and an excellent story and characters.
