I couldn't put this down!! I read this entire book in one sitting because I became so absorbed into the story that I lost all track of time. And I had no idea how edgy I was reading this--until a spider walked across my floor and I screamed so loud my son came running. The hairs on my neck felt like they were standing up. I hadn't much expectations about this book, at first glance it seemed like any run of the mill mystery novel. A series of grisly murders in a small town. A cop with a haunted p

I am hungry for more, Mr Kaufman...I had no idea this book would affect me the way it did. I'm more of a "tug at my heartstrings", kind of girl. As I jumped into the pages of this thriller, there was no turning back....
What I loved about this book, were the many facets of the story and how they all came to an ending that not only brought tears to my eyes, but also took my breath away. "While The Savage Sleeps" is a fast paced read that allows no time for hesitatio More...

If I could give a rating higher than 5, this book would deserve it! Phenomenal, amazing, fantastic - I suppose any one of these words would generally be indicative of high praise, yet even combined, they still don't adequately describe how truly wonderful I found this book. I loved the paranormal element combined with the murder mystery, and Andrew's writing style pulled me right into the story. At times, I felt like a detective trying to solve the puzzle and figure out the clues. At other t

Have you ever seen the movie Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze? This book reminds me of this movie except with a horrific overtone. I had so many emotions reading this, at one point I was anxious then scared then I was crying my eyes out. This is a must read for anyone especially the horror addicts! It is a very well written book and you are halfway through before you realize it. There is no foul language which goes to show that it isn't necessary to have an outstanding book. Thank you An

A few weeks ago I asked my readers to “give me some sappy book suggestions.” After 20 or so books with no emotional reaction I was starting to fear my sensitivity level was pretty much at a 0, (which I’m sure comes as no surprise) but after checking the list, and even reading several chapters from some of the suggestions I got… my tear ducts were still on lock-down, until this book. Who in the world would have thought a paranormal thriller (which reads a lot like a forensic thriller) would be th

"While the Savage Sleeps", Andrew Kaufman, Straightline Press, 2010
Kaufman knows to turn out a page turner. "While the Savage Sleeps" is a terrific read. It's a mystery and a thriller - with plenty of chills.
There've been murders in the small N Mexico town of Faith. It's a peaceful place that rarely sees a parking infraction. Now, what looks like a serial killer is loose. Or a killer and a copycat. Or... Sheriff Cameron Dawson doesn't know what to More...

Andrew E. Kaufman’s While The Savage Sleeps is a first-rate forensic whodunit, cleverly masquerading as a supernatural thriller. Those two aspects meshed well and kept me riveted. My only caution would be that Mr. Kaufman doesn’t scrimp on the well-researched and grisly details. Murder scenes are outlined in full, gruesome detail so be prepared to park your squeamishness at the curb. While the Savage Sleeps won’t disappoint if you do.

It takes a lot to rattle this seasoned veteran of the fright night generation, but Andrew Kaufman managed to shake me up with his shadowy serial killer mystery. Shortly after finishing the book, I received the link to the book trailer. Okay, I admit with my first click I nearly jumped out of my skin, then of course, laughed at myself for being ridiculous. What makes the book scary? For me, it’s the realness of the murders and the knowledge that this type of sadistic evil really lurks in the worl

Wow! I've worked 57 hours in the last 4 nights, so to say that I'm tired is a massive understatement! I always take my Kindle to bed with me and usually get at least a chapter or two read before I finally relax enough to go to sleep, but this morning I found myself starting this book and not being able to put it down till I was 75% done!
I'm not as capable of the kind of eloquent wording that would give this review justice...so let me just say again, WOW!

As my previous update stated, I started this book rather late on Friday evening under the belief that I'd simply read myself to sleep, set it aside once I was 10 or 15 percent through, and pick it back up over the weekend. Instead, I ended up propping myself into all sorts of uncomfortable positions in an effort to remain awake to find out what was next... and next... and next, until I was halfway through with the entire novel. I woke up a few hours later, and I have no idea what I was dreamin

Well, I got through this fast. It kept me entertained and that's a biggie for me. The first part grabbed my attention and I liked the MC fine. The story opens with a grisly attack on a Deputy. He doesn't see the killer and you get no sense of him either. The scene is well written as is all of the scenes of violence throughout the book. The MC is Assistant Sheriff Cameron who grew up in the small town where this takes place. Has the usual "leave boring town, tragedy, come home to boring town

I must be turning into a grump, the books I have read lately just don't seem to be doing it for me! :P While the Savage Sleeps pulls you in quickly, is full of action and gore (yay!) from the very beginning, but then slowed down too much for me in the middle. The wrap up that was written in newspaper form just felt, I don't know, kind of disjointed, although I appreciated the way everything was explained. I was a bit confused about the story that the two guys were planning to start a fire at

What a read!!! I'll admit that I didn't read the book in one setting. I'm a big chicken and it doesn't take much to freak me out. And the fact that I enjoy reading at night while in bed and everyone else is already asleep, didn't make it any better. There was more than once that I had to put the book down because I had myself so freaked out that I had to go hide under the covers for awhile.

I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book. It's billed as a paranormal (and thankfully, not romancey, as is the current trend), but then it starts as a fairly conventional thriller. The paranormal element comes in as a separate thread of the story, weaving tantalizing bits of the past into the present troubles. There are a couple of brutal murders, and an underlying question ... why does a small, isolated town suddently have an exponential growth, not just in crime, but in mu

Possibly not quite what I expected but a satisfying book overall. I was anticipating a more paranormal reason for the murders, so the solution seemed a tad neat? Tame? The ending was poignant and had me sniffling. I have to admit the story sucked me in practically from the first. The prologue set the stage, and Chapter One grabbed me by the throat and didn't let up. I like a book that makes me reluctant to set it down, and this one certainly fit the bill. Some graphic scenes that left me saying

I just finished reading While the Savage Sleeps and it is one of the best books I've read in a long time. I had a hard time putting it down to get anything else done all weekend. It amazes me that this is a first book by Andrew Kaufman. What an amazing talent. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and kept me interested all the way through to the very last page. I loved all the characters, I hope to see some of them again in future books. The plot was great, not too long and drawn out

How does one review a book and make another feel the vast, roller coaster ride of intense, creepy, suspenseful, insanely awesome emotions? How does one explain their relentless curiosity to not only get to the final answer, but finding yourself so lost in the story you're no longer questioning as an outsider......You are questioning as though you are in the story right beside the characters for the entire ride?? You don't...not easily when matched against such a wonderful writer, but you s More...

Not all books deserve their 5 star ratings. This one does. It has a unique, exciting storyline that mixes mystery and suspense with forensics and even a hint of romance. The detail and complexity are expertly written in a way that is not frustrating…even the fact that I couldn’t figure it out until the end didn’t irritate me as it usually does; caused me to say “bravo” instead. The characters are believable and memorable…they grow on you and I don’t think any of us would mind seeing some of

Every so often a book comes along that stirs up quite a buzz. You hear people talking about it just about everywhere you go. In many cases, it's a book by an established author who has a huge following and is being pushed by a major publisher as their latest cash cow. Other times the book is by an unknown backed by the money of a major publisher, their latest find, and sometimes it's by an independent author seeking to make a go of it on their own.

I thought it was amazing...intense...chilling...thrilling...with lots of exciting graphic crime scenes.
It was like seeing episodes from "Bones" and every "CSI" only ten times better.

I was immediately intrigued by the description of While The Savage Sleeps as a paranormal forensic thriller Faith, New Mexico is a small town that finds itself under siege from inexplicable violence. A popular deputy is brutally murdered, a teacher is gutted like a deer and an eleven year old boy shoots dead his family and himself in an explosion of savagery. Assistant Sheriff Dawson can't explain these unprecedented events, and except for suspected flu like symptoms in the perpetrators, there s

The first chapter opens with a gruesome murder involving hooks used for lifting hay bales. I was thinking, ‘oh, what have I gotten myself into?” I decided I wasn’t in the mood for that kind of story and shut off my kindle. The next day I picked it up again, and I’m glad I did! I ended up glued to this book until the very end. It’s a very fast paced thriller, leaving me thinking ‘what is going to happen??’ It is set up in short chapters changing pov from Cameron a cop who has suffered his ow

This thrilling book captured me from page 1. This novel has the feel of a classic horror novel, like old school Stephen King. It is quite long but you dont even notice because the story just flows and before you know it you are half-way through and dont want to stop reading. Like a classic horror novel there is definitely an element of creepiness that gets into your bones and makesnit difficult to sleep at night. Unlike some more recent horror novels this one is light on the gore which is good a

This book kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through, I like Crime, romance and paranormal books and this had them all rolled into one.
I can usually tell how a book is going to end but I was presently surprised that this was different and much better than I expected.
The detail and knowledge of the author is second to none and I think that this is why the book is so believable and interesting
I would definitely recommend it!!!!!!

Loved the small town setting and the characters who peopled it. Cam, the cop/hero, is likeable, believable and just vulnerable enough to make him very appealing. Kyle, the doc/medium is a little silly at times but still credible feisty heroine.
Without spoiling the tale for anyone, I liked how the gory murder mystery mutates into several other genres - real value for money!
I will look forward to reading Mr Kaufman's next book.

This book has a bit of everything. Ghosts, tragedy, mystery, murder, love, redemption. I'll admit there was a moment at the end which brought a tear or two to my eyes. I read this over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am now moving onto Andrew E. Kaufman's 'The Lion, The Lamb, The Hunted' as I read the excerpt at the back of this book and already has me intrigued. Plus it's a freebee on Amazon for Kindle.

Warning: don't start reading this book if you have to get up early in the morning.
This book kept me up late on worknights. Once I started reading I had to make myself put it down. Night after night I found myself reaching up and turing the lamp back on. The pace is neck-breaking, the writing spectacular, and the plot full of surprises.

WOW! I'm a bit speechless at the moment having just finished the book. It was not at all what I expected. I'm not one for giving summaries of novels. I let the author's do that. However, if you are looking for something bold, vivid with detail and different from the norm…this is your book. A fantastic read!!!!
