Rita Morroni (spell?) is the heroine.

Scottoline has created a vivid woman lawyer in Rita. She's smart, intuitive, blunt. She plays poker and knows how to bluff, in the courtroom, and in life, too. Rita's a loving daughter to her working-class father, a butcher who raised Rita on his own.

Rita has to defend her boyfriend's dad -- a fed judge, no less -- for sexual harrassment of his young, atractive female secretary. Then the judge becomes a murder suspect, after the secretary More...

Once again, a solid mystery page-turner with tight suspense and well-defined characters. As the story progresses and the mystery deepens, the ground keeps shifting under protagonist Rita Morrone’s feet. Every new turn seems to bring to light a new clue or a new suspect, and the reader is alongside Rita as she tries to sort out the truth from a maze of dead ends.

Quick plot summary (with some [hidden] spoilers ahead): Rita Morrone is a partner in a Philadelphia law firm, a trial attorn More...

Lisa Scottoline is a great read if you enjoy court rooms and end of chapter cliff hangers. Her stories are informative and witty as well as a joy to read. They primarily center around Bennie Rosato's all women law firm and the cases they take on. Bennie and her attorneys usually participate in each book but they all take turns as the "star of the show." Lisa evidently tends to write each story as it plays out to her...reasonably unplanned.....which makes them read fresh and rather More...

Fun read. Easy on the brain, funny quips and action. More lawyering than in previous books, but I'm getting irritated by the blurb on all the covers on how the author is the female John Grisham. No, that isn't this author's style. This is closer to a cozy mystery rather than a legal thriller. It happens to be about a lawyer but it is not a legal thriller. Hate to be pedantic about it, but I was a little disappointed that the book doesn't live up to the blurbs. It's good for what it is.

Eh. I loved Final Appeal so I expected to love this one as well. Yes, it had a different main character, but this one stars in a series! She must be great, right? Well, no.

In all honesty, Rita Morrone is okay as a main character but I don't love her. Same with the book -- it was okay, I finished it, but I didn't love it. While I'm not necessarily going to turn away another book in the series, it's unlikely that I'll be reaching for one any time soon

I like Lisa Scottoline's books. This wasn't one of her Rosato Associates series, but it was very interesting anyway. Lawyer Rita Morrone's live in boyfriend's father, a judge, is accused of the murder of his mistress, who also dallied with the son, among many others. Who killed her, and who killed the young black kid who worked for her father in his butcher shop? Lots of action, featuring three geriatric friends of her father, who help out.

I wasn't really sure I was going to like this book when I started reading it. It took me a little while to get into it. Didn't particularly like the main character at first, but she grew on me and the story turned out to be good. By the end of the book, I was having a hard time putting it down. Stick with it! If you like Lisa's writing, this is another fine story.

The author Lisa Scottoline is actually an attorney and author..she is comical and clever, this book has a familiar plot, yet held my interest to the last. A murder mystery, the chracter is quite adverse to the ladylike qualities of the characters found in Blossom Street series...I will probably read another one of Lisa Scottolines books..for fun.

Fun to read about local settings from a local author (1 character had on a Drexel t-shirt). Reading some of her reviews this was not one of her best. They said it was one of her early books. I am interested to read more books to see if I agree. Quick read about a lawyer caught in the middle of her own case.

Philadelphia lawyer Rita Morrono is guilted into defending her boyfriend’s father, Federal Judge Fiske Hamilton, in a sexual harassment case when the woman is gruesomely murdered and the judge is the only suspect. Reluctant to pursue the criminal case, Rita is coerced to continue but she becomes committed when her father is injured and his assistant killed in a break in. With the aid of her three elderly poker buddies Rita takes the investigation in to her own hands and filters through a variety More...

Very Good; Continuing characters: Rosato&Assoc law firm; woman takes on sexual harrassment case defense for judge, who also happens to be her lover's father; then the woman making the charges is killed.

Enjoyable characters, but the plot is rather thin. A few things happen. A couple of people are murdered. There's some story to tie it together, but there certainly could have been a lot more.

I tried to listen to the audiobook of this, because Barbara Rosenblat was the narrator. Unfortunately, even she couldn't save the bad writing, stupid characters and hackneyed plot. A shame!

This is one of Scottoline's early books and it wasn't my favorite. The action was a little slow and I didn't particularly connect with the main character.

I enjoyed the plot twists and the main character, Rita. So much of Scottoline's sarcastic humor came through this character--a good, entertaining read.

This one has a wonderful depiction of her father in the Italian Market in Philadelphia. Wonderful tribute to older generation and culture.

Another good one from Scottoline. Rita was a different type of character from a lot of the other lawyers Scottoline writes about—a little tougher, a little more independent. She was easier for me to like.

A fun read. Interesting characters and a slightly believable plot. Not her best but I'll still read more of her books.

Surprisingly, a good read. Loved Scottoline's dry sense of humor. Hope to see a Rita series published!

This book was not one of my favorites. I know this is an earlier, work, but it just didn't grab me like the others. Lisa Scottoline certainly hit her stride with Benny.

FOr me, this story kinda trudged along. I enjoyed the characters way more than the story. The plot of this one was all over the board and din't make much sense to me.

And the worst was the ending. Bam! It was done. But then the book went on for three or four more chapters.

It was a good read, but More...
