Of course, I love it! This young adult novel about a girl who received s heart transplant is dedicated "To Lois, and to Kaitlyn whose heart lives on."

One evening when my friend Lurlene and I were having dinner together,I told her about my daughter, Kaitlyn Arquette, who was chased down in her car and shot in the head in Albuquerque, NM, in 1989 (case is still unsolved). Kait was an organ doner, and, as the recipient of her heart and lungs came out from under the anesthetic, More...

I've read about the topic of this book: when someone gets a heart transplant, the person who receives the heart says and does things like the person to whom the heart originally belonged. I think it was a great topic for Lurlene to write about and she did it so beautifully!

This book tell the story of three girls: Elowyn, Kassey, and Arabeth. Elowyn and Kassey are best friends and very different. Elowyn is outgoing while Kassey is more quiet and shy. Things changed when Elowyn get's a More...

I've heard before that Lurlene McDaniel is like the the Nicholas Sparks of the YA world... and I wouldn't disagree. Heart to Heart is the first novel I've read of the author's many novels and prepare yourself, you'll need those tissues handy in no time at all.

Within the first 50 pages, I was already crying- not a few tears, but actually crying. The author pulls you in right from the very first page, and although you already know what's going to happen, as the back blurb explains, you More...

This book review comes with a warning: Reading Lurlene McDaniel’s books can be addicting. I see it every year. One of my students–usually a girl–picks up one of McDaniel’s books and then goes on a reading binge, devouring novel after novel. In fact, one of my students gave me Heart to Heart to read this week, saying, “This is the best book. You have to read it.” So I did.

Heart to Heart explores the complicated relationships between four teens who are brought together by tragedy. More...

This book was... all right. I cried a little when the girl died so that was something. It means something when an author can evoke emotions....
And honestly, it wasn't poorly written. I just figured there would be more to the story. It talked about 'cellular memory' (a transplant recipient takes on traits and desires from the donor, most especially in heart patients) so it was a little paranormal...
Characters were likable though Arabelle bugged me for almost the entire story. I think More...

I liked this book. I could really connect to this book on how with your friends and cherishing something special. This book taught me that you must Charish everything you have and eveyone you love because god can take it away in a heart beat. I don't know what I would do if one of my friends died. It would be hard for me knowing she is not going to make me laugh, cry, and be there fir me when u need her. I can't even imagine whammy life would be like! I loved how this book could almost make me cry More...

Elowyn and Kassey are best friends have been best friends since the 7th grade. They share everything together and are as close as sisters. Elowyn turns sixteen and is given a shiny new red car for her birthday. She in turn gives Kassey a set of keys to her car for when Kassey turns sixteen in just a few months.
Kassey never drives that car because Elowyn is killed in a car accident one rainy night. Kassey and Elowyn's parents are devastated by her death. They then learn that Elowyn h More...

I think now that I've read just about enough of Lurlene's books for a few months at least although they do come in handy since for me I usually finish one of her books in under 2 hours and with the end of the year looming I'm trying to read a few more books before it's officially over.

I liked this newer book of hers though I didn't particularly like the characters other than that of Arabeth. After Kasey's best friend Elowyn gets in a car accident her family follows through with her w More...

I really, really liked this book.
The beginning as Elowyn is dying is just so painful to go through. My eyes literally filled with tears quite a few times.
The middle part is okay. There's a lot going on, like there's so many stories that you really don't know who you're switching to and everybody has so much happening at the same time. It gets a little crowded, but it's not bothersome. Just crowded. It's still interesting.
The end was also really beautiful. The simplicity of th More...

I found this cheesy and predictable. I've always found Mcdaniels books to be good, even if the outcome was easily predictable- as she uses the same formulas over and over. However, this one just didn't do it for me. I found myself wishing the book would just end. It was boring, and dull and honestly was one of the worst books I have ever read. In my honest opinion, I think the modern shake up of her older book formulas just failed miserably. I wish I could say different, because growing up- Mcda More...

I'd give this a 3 1/2 stars if I could. I think that the story lines was really good. It was really interesting to read about a heart transplant and the aftermath of it. The characters are not amazing, the beginning is only "eh" due to not really getting to know the girls- they seemed stiff, but what kept me reading was wanting to see where the author would go with this. I think middle school kids would like this read because it's such a different type of story. I just finished th More...

Another inspirational novel in which death provides new life, told in alternating chapters from two points of view. Organ donation is the topic and it is handled quite well. As is typical of McDaniel's novels, she covers the emotional aspects of teen romance, grief, and recovery in a realistic manner. The cover illustrations fit nicely with the title and content: red cover with the title separated by two hearts, each heart made with intersection thumbprints, thus alluding to the concept of c More...

- Main Conflict
This book is mainly about how the donation make people's life better. Some people have waited for their entire life to get these organs and it changes their life forever.

- The story was like this. Elowyn Eden and Kassey Messechek are best friends. They share every aspect of their lives. But one thing Elowyn has not yet shared with Kassey is that she checked the organ donor box on her newly acquired driver’s license. Kassey only learns of this in a startling More...

Lurlene McDaniel's newest novel explores the idea of cellular memory as experienced by some transplant patients.

Kassey and Elowyn are best friends. They have grown up together playing on the same teams, having sleepovers, and even vacationing together. They can finish each others' thoughts and sentences. They are almost inseparable - until the night Elowyn runs off the road and hits a tree.

I love all things Lurlene McDaniel, so it was no surprise that I enjoyed this story. It was not quite as much of a tear jerker as some of her stories have been, but it still presents teens facing difficult and life changing events. The concept of cell memory is really bizarre to me, and it makes for an awesome story line-- in fact, I just finished a similar book- Cold hands, warm heart.

I would recommend this to fans of McDaniels other works, My sister's keeper, or if you read about More...

The concept behind this book was very interesting. However I did not find the book itself that great. I love Lurlene McDaniel and thought I would like this book. However, I never found myself wanting to read it but I forced myself to finish.

Sappy and schmaltzy and predictable. Plus crazy cellular memory silliness. It might as well have been about angels and auras for as ill-suited as it is to me. I like YA for angst. This was like goopy glurge expanded. Not my thing.

I loved heart to heart. It made me think a lot about my best friend, and driving safely. It makes you think a lot about "what would you do situations". It was my favorite book from this author. She is my favoite author.

Searching for David's Heart had a much more profound effect on me. I liked Heart to Heart but it seemed very predictable to me. A sweet story that definitely gets the message across that being an organ donor is important.

this book was pretty good in my opinion. not as good as the time capsule but okay. The climax in this book kind of happened in the beginning. (when Elowyn died) great message i am continuing to read from this author!

A pretty good book. A bit far fetched, but I have heard of this type of situation before.
For movie lovers, this book is a bit like "Return to Me" but with teenagers. Same plot base, just different outcomes.

Given that my dad & brother have both had heart transplants, I think this book is great! It really does cover the "experience" well both physically and emotionally.

This wasn't as sappy as I expected. I like that neither girl ended up with Wyatt. I don't think the subplot with Kassey's dad was necessary.
