Even though we're always told not to judge a book by them, I'm often taken in by striking covers. Sometimes you get a story that matches the beauty of the outside. Sometimes you get 666 Park Avenue.
That's not to say 666 Park Avenue is a bad book, just a stunningly uneven one. The first few chapters share more than a few similarities with a popular romance novel. A charming, handsome billionaire is so taken with a bumbling, ordinary gir...more

I have heard this book called a lot of complimentary things and people really seem to like it; but if you are a serious fan of any of the genres that this book is dealing with you may have problems with it like I did.
This book is trying to be too many things all at one time. It is trying to be a romance, a speculative fiction book and a chick lit all rolled into one, and it does not work. There is too little of each to make up a satisfying whole.
The so-called heroine is whiny, a tad trusting wit...more
Gossip Girl for adults, with a splash of paranormal. I was intrigued by the (much adapted) television show, and although I'm not usually a fan of chick-lit, decided to give this book a try.

I bought this book because I had been watching the TV series here in the UK and thought it was fun.
It seems that the book and the TV series had only a few things in common. these are:
1. The Title
2. The main character names - Jane Boyle and Malcolm Doran
3. Jane is architecturally trained
4. Jane has 'powers'
5. Building at 666 (or 665)Park Ave.
Otherwise everything is very different.
TV storyline.
Malcolm is married and in league with Dark Forces and has dead daughter.Janes lives with her boyfriend. H...more

No entanto, desiludi-me. Achei todas as personagens, no geral, fracas. Sem dúvida que a personagem que mais me cativou foi Jane, mas nem ela me prendeu a atenção. O personagem Malcom é demasiado chique e superficial, a meu ver, e está tantas vezes ausente que mal consegui perceber quem ele era, de facto. Não acreditei no a...more
Well, this was a huge disappointment.
I started watching the TV show and since it was cancelled, I thought why not read the book it was based upon.
(Since I really loved the TV show.)
Big mistake.
The book is nothing like the show. The writing is horrible, Twilight sounds like the holy grail of literature next to it. (And seriously... Twilight is not worth to use as toilet paper.)
- the plot "twists" are predictable and the writer doesn't waste more than a few sentences on each
- clothing description...more

I should preface this review with this: I do not typically read or enjoy the paranormal romance genre. In fact, I pretty much detest it. However, I've been reading a ton of very academic and intense research articles for work, so I thought that I'd give this a try for easy reading after a friend told me the premise.
Overall, for this genre, it wasn't bad. The randomly placed sex scenes were ridiculous and pointless (as typical in these books) but the story was entertaining if not deep. I did like...more

Legitimately one of the worst novels I've ever read (no, not this year - EVER). I was lured by its easy availability on Amazon and my miserable bed-ridden illness/dizziness that probably couldn't handle much else.
Allow me to explain just how terrible this is:
Everything about this novel points to the author's unabashed desire to include every popular genre that has made a smidgen of money in the past decade of chick lit.
1) Supernatural (witches! magic!)
2) Priv-lit (upper east side! paparazzi!...more

It's... okay. So it gets 2.5 stars. Not 3. 2.5
Just not very bright, or very interesting, or very even glamorous. Jane was a bit of a wet hen, but nice, the paranormal was very wishy-washy, and now that I'm reading the second book, the whole thing is so predictable it's not even funny.
It's also painful the way that the setting\world is created for the single purpose of serving the plot. Magic? Works as it works for the good of the plot. Witch power being genetically transmitted? For the good of t...more

Watching the new tv series for the second time, I noticed at the beginning it states 'based on a novel by Gabriella Pierce]. I like the series and love to read so the next time I was in the library I checked out the book. I was very disappointed to find out the series is not anything like the book. Yes, it has the same name as the book and yes, our main character is Jane [but not the same gal] and the owner of the property is a Doran [but not even close to the same character]. I am mystified how...more

If you like paranormal romances that aren’t too gushy and still have a bit of kick to them, then you’re going to love the first book in the new 666 Park Avenue series!
Seriously, I love paranormal stuff, but usually can’t stand the romance side of things, however this more than stands up to even the biggest haters of romantic fiction by having enough paranormal activity and believable characters to carry it off easily. This was my first read of any of Gabriella Pierce's books and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a great book for those of you who love witches and magic, but not into the teenage side of young adult books. This book is definitely for adults and I loved it. The evil mother in law is a great character.
The main character in the book is Jane Boyle, she is an intelligent, strong and very clever woman, who works as an architect. Her fiancé Malcolm Doran is rich, handsome and very very successful. The are so in love with each other and their romance is fairy-tale like. Her mother in law...more

666 Park Avenue by Gabriella Pierce is the first book in this incredible series. It is Secret circle meets Gossip girl.
The story starts in Paris, but is primarily set in New York and tells the story of American-born Jane Boyle. Who after the tragic death of her parents is sent to live with her paranoid and overprotective grandmother in France. Jane left her overprotective grandmother when she was old enough and move to Paris to become an architect.

666 Park Avenue showed a lot of promise: New York; Witches; Magic; Intrigue; Romance and 'an evil, cold-blooded witch' for a mother-in-law!
This is exactly the sort of book I would have loved as a teenager! However, as an adult, even though I know that my 12 year old niece would love the book but I personally thought the sex scenes were a little too descriptive for me to be able to pass it on to her. So maybe one for older teens upwards? I actually felt the book didn't need those scenes to be in...more

"666 Park Ave" was an enjoyable read. I felt that I "got along" well with the character of Jane. She is just sentimental enough to be real, but with a vein of grit running through her that developed believably through the story.
The details in the book are bright and imposing. The characters are knife-edged with detailed physical descriptions. Jane's surroundings and objects in the story truly came to life in my mind through Pierce's writing (i.e., the red-and-gold duvet).

I love the artsy cover for 666 Park Avenue - the texture is a little different, but I seriously love having this book on my shelf because the design is so pretty! What can I say? Sometimes I'm a superficial reader :) Also, I swear it wasn't until I finally had time to read this book that I realized how truly evil the title is with such unlucky numbers!

I really liked this... First, because the book is incredibly pretty: not only the cover, each new chapter is decorated with foliage and I've loved it (yes, I can be shallow).
The beginning of the story made me think of Charmed: a young girl learns she's a witch when her grandmother dies, she's been kept in the dark because her mother, who died when she was very young, didn't want her to know. Seriously, sounds familiar?
But similarities stopped there. Jane falls in love with Prince Charming, they...more

Jane Boyle is an architect in France who bumps into Malcolm Doran, an American, after a society event. He immediately sweeps her off of her feet, and she can't believe how lucky she is. When he proposes, she accepts and decides to quit her job in France and get a new one in America. But first, she has to take Malcolm to meet her Grandmother, a woman she herself hasn't visited in six years. Her grandmother raised her and she was very strick. Jane had a tendency of causing electronics to fiz out a...more
About half way through reading this story, I notice how extremely stressed out 666 Park Avenue was making me feel, as Jayne's engagement to a rich and handsome American goes from fairytale to nightmare - wedding planning with a Mother-in-law-to-be from hell and absent groom-to-be ....ACK! But once our bride-to-be heroine who has left her life and career in France behind to pursue her happily ever after with her prince in New York, finally discovers the truth behind her situation - and starts to...more
When Jane met Malcolm, she was swept off her feet. They become engaged quickly and she agrees to leave her home in Paris and move to New York, where he's from. And that's where things fall apart. Her future mother-in-law is evil. Literally evil. But turns out Jane's not exactly defenseless herself...

Wow! This book gets 5 stars because it was very well written, which means completely un-predictable and full of suspense and romance with a dark twist. I only hesitated in the chapter that Dee introduced Jane to her coven and I thought the book would take a cheesy turn but I'm glad the Pierce did not take that route. I liked how the author created a historical background for the witches, starting in Ambika but I was disappointed that Jane's background could not be traced beyond her grandmother....more

This was a Goodreads FirstReads win for me.
I was excited about winning and starting this book because it seemed like something I'd enjoy. Unfortunately that feeling didn't last for very long. The book wasn't awful, but I found it hard to get involved. Other than "hot sex" I didn't see any connection between Jane and Malcolm which was just odd since they were supposed to be in love and getting married. Nice little romance, not really my thing, as I know nearly nothing about the stuff mentioned the female hero wears. Also she was surprisingly weak both in person and in writing. My main reason for reading this has also missed the point: the TV-Show, at least the first Episode only shares a few things with the book, although the author is mentioned as having co-written the TV-Show. Despite having the same title, the show has nearly as much in common with the book as say "Practical Magic" - which...more
