What would make the perfect man? That's the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours hot spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted -- or will just muscular do? As their conversation hears up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnigh...more

This book was very funny and a good romantic suspense. The interaction between Jaine and Sam was hilarious. She is a bit of a spit fire and he has a bit of a temper. I love the part where she sprays him with the hose then he hold her against her car. She tells him he is holding her against her will but he says he isn't, he is holding her against her car. The diagolue was great and the suspense portion was good. This is a great read if you enjoy a laugh, good romance and a bit of suspense!

What do you get when four friends get together for their weekly girls night out and have a little too much to drink? Well, in this story, you get a list detailing what these friends think it takes to make the perfect man.

And what do you get when that list becomes an overnight sensation with a nearly cult like following? Well, in this story, you get murder!

I’ve had this book on my shelves for quite awhile and whenever my Goodreads friends would talk about Linda Howard’s books, Mr. Perfect was su...more

Remember the discussion thread on Amazon several months ago where the boardies discussed their favorite lines in a book? Now I finally understand the popular line ... "I'm not holding you against your will; I'm holding you against your car."

This book was full of verbal sparring between Jaine Bright and her neighbor, Detective Sam Donovan, that was downright hilarious at times. Jaine first meets Sam when she accidentally backs over his metal garbage can with her new Viper. Tempers flare as these...more

I only read SEVEN PERCENT of this book. So take my review with a grain of salt.

I often search the internet for "best romance novels of all time." There are, surprisingly, a lot of lists dedicated to enumerating the best romance novels ever written. I've found quite a few gems this way. THIS novel made the top ten of most of those lists. I spent most of my life thinking that all romance novels were a waste of my time and intellect, until I rediscovered romance about four years ago. I discovered t...more

5+stars for one of my all-time favorite authors.

If Linda Howard is sometimes hit or miss, Mr. Perfect is an easy HIT!
Excellent book. One of Linda Howard's very best. Funny and sweet, scary and heartbreaking; this Novel is a PERFECT blend of suspense and romance. It is a treat to read from start to finish. Not once during this book did I lose interest; I devoured every single scene. Linda Howard is an author with many faces; each of her books is so different in intensity. This book is a bit of...more

"I'm not holding you against your will; I'm holding you against your car."

Who knew that the inconsiderate drug dealing drunk next door was really a cop? And not just a cop but the man of her dreams...

One of my all time favorite books that I have read many times. I love the blend of romance, humor and suspense.

Smart mouth, personalitynya kuat, doyan mengumpat. Tapi untungnya dia tobat, walaupun dengan ba...more

This book is worth more a 3.5 than a 3 star rating. There isn’t much romance, there’s too much focus on the stereotypical complicity between the 4 friends and what happens is a little too over the top. The writing is very good though.

The h/h ‘s relationship is very hard to believe and there’s virtually no sexual tension or lead up to their “love affair”. They’re barely together throughout the story so it’s hard to get a feeling for them as a couple let alone believing that they’ve fallen head ov...more

For fun, Jaine and her three friends at work wrote up a list of qualities for the perfect man. The list went public by accident and gained them a lot of notoriety, especially because some of the list items had to do with looks, size and stamina. Then someone starts killing them off and Jaine has to rely on her cop neighbor (who is also her new boyfriend) to keep her alive.

Not Howard's best in any way. Sam, the cop, wasn't a great character, although I did half-enjoy their initial dislike of one...more

Some things that bugged me:
1- why didn't the cops just call the damn phone company and get all their phone records to find the stalker?
2- why the hell didn't they send the other women protection? Luna should never have been alone.
3*- this quote: “Sam turned to his computer and downloaded his E-mail. When he saw how many Ks of RAMthe attached file took, he winced. "I hope I have the memory," he muttered, then clicked on the attachment and opened the file. Thirty minutes later, it was sti...more

REVIEW OF AUDIOBOOK MAY 17 2013: 2.5 STARS
I couldn't believe how poorly this turned out as an audiobook! What was a trusty 5-star comfort read ended up a 2.5-star audio tale. 3 stars towards the end when the action kicked in. Before this, it just rambled on and I kept mentally hurrying it up, wishing I could fast forward it. Unfortunately, it's difficult to know where I want to stop the fast-forward in an audiobook unless I have the ebook open as well - which I don't most of the time.

4 ½ stars – Romantic Suspense

I love the line, "The wheel's still going around, but her hamster's dead".

I love this verbal sparring scene between the H/H, (page 18):

"I haven't had any sleep, any breakfast, or any coffee. I'd better leave before I hurt you." He nodded. "That's a good idea. I'd hate to have to arrest you." She stared at him, taken aback. "What?" "I'm a cop," he said, then turned and walked back into his house. Jaine stared after him, shocked. A cop? "Well, fuck," she said.

In the beginning of the book I was tempted to give it 1.5 stars - it was excruciatingly slow and I couldnt help groaning as Ms. Howard went on and on about mundane, irrelevant, BORING facts for about 150 pages. I really didnt need to know about what she Jaine going to wear, about her lawn mower, grass cutting...it gives a new meaning to "as boring as grass".

The characters too, in these pages were so irritating. Women's fiction - and you cant like the MC? :O I was sorely tempted to aban

I listened to the Audible version of this book.

The narration was great. No issues with it at all. Voices well done, intonations spot on.

I apparently read this book a long time ago and had no memory of it, until I started listening. I remembered the "hook" almost immediately so I can't really speak to the mystery part of the story since I had previous knowledge.

I can say it is well written, well edited. The story, yeah, is a bit unbelieveable and the instalust a little much. But who cares. It is...more

I'm definitely a Linda Howard fan and have been since I discovered her. Mr. Perfect was the book of the month group read for the LH group on GR and I was so surprised I hadn't read this one before. I rated this one four stars because in my universe a book has to be completely engrossing, I can't put it down, I can't sleep because I'm thinking about it, oops I'm dreaming about it, to be five stars. So this book is a strong four stars in my...more

Mr. Perfect has long been one of my favorite Linda Howard books; it was the first tale that revealed her skill at writing laugh out loud funny humor throughout a book. Heroine Jaine Bright is her vehicle in this endeavor and she is as brilliantly crafted as her name. I loved her character. Narrator Laura Hicks captures Jaine exactly as I’d read her and it was a pleasur...more

My Rating: 3.5

Ever since I enjoyed Linda Howard's Blair Mallory series, I decided to indulge myself with more of her books, and Mr. Perfect sounded perfect. Something that every girl wants - that started out as a harmless joke - that turns so bad that someone actually got murdered for it sounds good to me.

Linda Howard sure knows how to keep me guessing. Readers knew who the murderer would be from the start - she makes it quite obvious. However, during the book, the four women didn't even know...more

Perfection is the name of this book! I was up till 5:30 in the morning finishing this and when I got to the end I wanted more, more Jaine and Sam. I loved the romance and wanted so much more. Jaine was a firecracker and I loved her. She was soo kick-ass and knew cars and didn't mind speaking her mind and throwing herself in the fray.

She just bought a house, her siblings are miffed with her since her vacation parents left their cat and her dad's prized car in her possession. She also thinks her n...more

This is the book that made fall in love with Linda Howard's books in the first place. Witty, entertaining and really fun to read.

STORY BRIEF:
Jane and three of her friends get together one day and write up a list of what makes a perfect guy- a.k.a Mr. Perfect.

She has the opposite of Mr. Perfect as her next door neighbour, until she literally has her image of him changed in front of her, and she finds him closer to being Mr. Perfect than she originally thought.

Someone takes exception to the list...more

Another reviewer said she thought Linda Howard was 2 people. I can't agree more. How can the same author write "After the Night" (which I loved) and "Dream Man" (which I hated)? I think Linda Howard is a very talented writer, but with her, it is hit or miss. For me "Mr. Perfect" fell right in the middle. I wanted a lot more from this book.

Four friends put a list together of what it would take to be Mr. Perfect. The list is right on -- truthful, honest, funny, good to look at, etc. Of course, th...more

Couldn’t finish because I couldn’t get over how not realistic the premise was (yes, even for fiction). I highly doubt four drunken women saying that they would like their perfect man to have a big slong would be controversial enough to actually be shown on the news. I also thought it was weird how every woman found this list to be super hilarious and were constantly ‘you go girl’-ing and all the men were offended and grumpy. If someone tells me their requirement for a perfect partner is a big on...more

This was such a fun book to read, the 4 women, each so different, balanced out in a group. Their weekly get together's seemed like such fun, you wished you were a part of them, especially when they started the "Mr. Perfect" list. I liked that the list was full of real qualities and bawdy humor that women get to when they are together.

From the start I liked Jaine, her love of swearing and quick wit was so much fun. Her verbal battles with everyone and Sam especially, had me laughing. And speaking...more

I enjoyed this book from the first page. The characters are well written and funny. And the suspense will get you, you won't be able to figure it all out til the last (at least I didn't).

Jaine and her friends are sick of men. There is no perfect man for them. So when they meet at their favorite after work spot and complain about their lives, one of them makes a list of their requirements for the perfect man. The whole thing is a joke, but somehow the list is printed in the company newsletter an...more

Ah, Linda Howard, an author I can always count on to entertain me. This was not only a fun read but had some well written female relationships. The mystery and identity of the killer wasn't too difficult to figure out so if you're looking for real mystery, this isn't it. Jaine and her friends added a different dimension to the story. I liked interactions between the women and seeing how they pulled together during a crisis. I wouldn't say the romance was in the forefront, more of a fairly even d...more
