Sadly, Dark Heart Forever is one of those 'the cover is better than the actual prose' novels. I was enchanted by the gorgeous art and really excited to read the book as I've had plot bunnies about a similar idea bouncing round my head for a few years now but sadly I was left feeling very disappointed.
I had a lot of trouble with the narrative because it jumps into the story without a back story at all. I expected some flesh to Luca's storyline (how long had Jane been having these dreams? What ha...more

I loved this book. I could tell right from the start that there was going to be something seriously wrong with Evan and I actually gasped outloud when I found out he was Raphael. I love Luca he is so cute and you can tell he is in denile about loving Jane. Lowe is horrible but I think he might have a big part to play in the next book? Dalya is the best, i wish i had a sister like her! she's so loyal and caring <3 highly recommend this book!!<3<3

This book was a thorough disappointment. The gorgeous cover was beautiful and enticing (I would DIE for that dress- or at least bedroom walls in that same colour)and the synopsis is equally exciting. I've always loved the ideas of dream worlds, so combining the idea with fantasy creatures and a love triangle sounded like my idea of a dream book.
Advice to fellow readers drawn in by the same reasons as me: This book is nowhere near as good as the cover/synopsis make out.

Reading the synopsis on the cover, I wanted to immerse myself in the adventures of Jane. It seemed interesting to witness the collision between her dreams and the reality. I also expect a lot of magic or fantasy but I stayed on my hunger. The novel begins slowly and lack of pace.
The reader feel that something interesting will happen, but the author takes her time, maybe too much, to mount the mayonnaise. The clues are there, the agonizing atmosphere starts and poof ... nothing more.

Muchas cosas no esperaba de esté libro, y me sorprendieron.
Para comenzar, que el ambiente fuera tan… ¿Solitario?

This was a really intriguing and different book. It had paranormal aspects but the whole story had more than just a love triangle and some crazy werewolves/vampires/angels/witches. I didn’t love this book, but I didn’t hate it. In some parts in was confusing, and it felt like it took me a little while to read, but I still enjoyed it.

OK, let us start with the fact how they made a big deal about some curse in the beginning that the author never continued. And something about some girls? I was totally open to love this book, but seriously, don't mention something you're not going to explain.
And then there's the whole I'm-falling-in-love-ridiculously-fast-with-no-development-leading-to-it thing. I think that's all to be said on the matter.
But the end, the end was horrible. If it wasn't for the end, I might have given it 3 stars...more

I don't really know what to say about this book, I really don't! I loved it- by the end, but it did take me a long while to get into it. I have wavered at times about whether or not this book is a three star or a four star.

You know, I just didn't buy into this book as much as I thought I would. I really liked it in the beginning, since both Jane and Luca manage to narrowly avoid the stereotypes set forth by the many YA authors that have come before them. I was pleased that, despite Luca's revelation, the author managed to avoid the macho Alpha Male role he could have easily fallen into, and Jane is a moderately interesting protagonist. Not really the most complex I've read, but neither is she delving into Bella Sw...more
Unfortunately, this book will be shelved under DID NOT FINISH. I was halfway through but nothing was really happening. The plot moved in such a snail’s pace that I quit reading before I could figure what this book was about. I hate giving up on books but I have to think about the other ones on my Mt. TBR that are more deserving of my time.

Jane Jonas has never really been a sociable or popular person. She takes comfort in being with her immediate family, like spending time with her younger sister Dot. Then a new boy named Evan starts at her school and suddenly she has not one, but TWO handsome boys after her. Evan's past is as mysterious as his good looks, but Jane can't shake the feeling that there is something darker to him. Luca is the only boy who's ever made Jane feel completely comfortable in her own skin... if only she knew...more
Surprising, quirky little gem with a misleadingly dull blurb. Monroe's Dark Heart Forever had this reviewer denouncing sleep to get to the last page. Main character Jane is the lead you've been waiting for: weirdly wonderful with a fantastic, and authentic, voice. There were laugh-out-loud moments, but the humor was never misused.
Characterization, placing and narrative were almost faultless. My concern about the use of paranormal archetypes as a backdrop for the "other" world, Nissilum, was tha...more

It is dangerous, mysterious and romantic but still keeping the basic point of the book! The plot line is amazing compared to other books i have read in the similar fantasy. Creatures of the fantasy world are hard to write about as we don't have any proof of them existing, they are just our imagination and a great addition to children's tales. We see them as we would want to see them, beautiful, handsome, powerful and many other words that describe our own tales and pictures of these creatures an...more
I was pretty excited to read Dark Heart Forever and I'm happy to say that the excitement was worth it. At first I thought it was too fast-paced and predictable but as I kept reading I found out that my predictions were completely wrong and the book went on a completely different turn.

DARK HEART RISING has been on my reading list for months and after getting through my list I finally reached DHF and it was well worth it.
My only compliant was that the start of the DHF was a tad bit slow but it picked up from about Chapter 3.
Jane has gone through her fair share of heart attack and we see that when she meets Evan. She comes across as lonely and she has some trust issues except for those close to her like her immediate family. Jane is described as a very stunning girl but does no...more

A thrilling love story about a man of mystery. As an outsider,Jane is not used to being loved or being in love.Although, when she meets Evan and Luca, she finds it pretty overwhelming.
Evan is a good lucking, popular sort of guy.however Luca is a loyal friend.
Nearing the end of this book connections are made and Evan is not who he is said to have been.Experiencing strange events such as; having a car crash, finding Nissilum, camping with Evan and attending a grand ball,Jane is to busy to fully recognis...more

Recommends it for:
Fans of paranormal romance that don't mind whiny teens.
Ermm, this book wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. The plot was good enough: there plenty of unexpected twists and it was kinda exciting. The lead character Jane was what really deducted from the book. She was just so...infuriating to say the least. The other characters were okay, and we had the classic love triangle for the majority of the book: good guy that offers security, mysterious guy that has a dark, concealed past and a girl. But then the twist changed that to shocked whiny girl,...more
A sweet story, as Jane approachs her 16th birthday she starts having dreams and sleepwalking, dreaming of a green eyed mysterious boy dressed in a black coat. After her birthday it seems as though her dreams are becoming real when her green eyed dream boy starts appearing in the area around her home, but hes definately hiding something. She also meets another boy at the same time, a surfer type boy all blond hair and tanned from Austrailia with a mystery surrounding him also. She is drawn to bot...more
Hmmm. Where to start.
Well its your usual story about a girl who has to choose between two guys and navigate a strange new world, which for the most part is nothing original. The characters are incredibly underdeveloped, and the plot far more so. It felt rushed, and the developments by the end were hard to stomach.
Some of the chapters were a bit ridiculous. 'Why yes daughter, of course your 18 year old boyfriend can teach you to drive unlwafully ON A MOUNTAIN. Even if your father just crashed the...more

OK, this book was not what I expected, but I mean this in a good way.
It totally deserves 3 1/2 stars, it is a little short of 4 stars.
Jane is a tomboy, who has had it rough. So rough that on account of a girl, Sarah, bullying her, she has been homeschooled for the past year.
Life seems to drag on for her with nothing really interesting happening and her being a bit passive, but things change on her sixteenth birthday (and a little before that).

CRAP. This book brought me to tears, especially in the end. So, Evan Forest [the real one] was strangled by Raphael [a wolf, who was Gabriel's son (Anna's teenage fling)]. Raphael thought his father died/disappeared because of Anna, who was Jane's mother. He did his revenge by pretending he liked Jane and something something. I can't explain everything. That's just a part of it. If you read this book, well, prepare to wear your seat belts. It's a very EPIC book. It's a bundle of everything, thri...more

I’m not quite sure what to say about this book, I liked it but it didn’t blow me away. It reminded me a lot of other young adult paranormal books out there. There were a few original points in the book but not any that I would say that you would HAVE to read it now. The book started off a little slow but halfway through it started to pick up and I started enjoying it.
