Teen life is hard enough with all of the pressures kids face, but for teens who are LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender), it’s even harder. When do you decide to come out? To whom? Will your friends accept you? And how on earth do you meet people to date?

Queer is a humorous, engaging, and honest guide that helps LGBT teens come out to friends and family, navigate...more

“It Gets Better” is a message that has wormed its way into mainstream media as a reaction to bullying and violence toward gay teens. And although this is a necessary message for young people who sexually identify as queer, or think they might be, there is not a lot of information out there telling them how to make it better. Until now.

This Queer 101 manual gives accessible and real-world advice, geared to teens, on a myriad of topics including:
- how to determine i...more

I found this book---because I feel that I need more resources in my classroom for the queer community. I have now taught Health twice to my students---and neither the textbook nor the curriculum asks for me to touch upon alternative lifestyles---nothing outside boy/girl sex. I also have students who make comments...hints rather, that they are gay....and in desperate search of an ally...and while, I am supportive, I cannot answer all questions, so this book was nabbed so that students could borro...more

"A little different than bisexuals, pansexuals [sic] people are attracted to not only boys and girls, but people who identify as transgender." - Queer: The Ultimate LGBT Guide for Teens, page 14

I think this definition is a little problematic because it implies that transgender people aren't truly men/women because they were born blah blah. I think a better definition would be one that explains that pansexual people are attracted to people who identify as male, female, or are gender-queer or gend...more

This is a balanced and practical discussion of issues related to identifying as anything other than heterosexual. Curious teens will find detailed answers to common questions, useful and current resources for help, including such well-known and reputable groups as PFLAG (for parents), clear definitions for vocabulary, all written in a measured but light hearted tone. The cartoons scattered throughout are a little unnecessary and not all that humorous, but inoffensive (it should be noted that the...more

Queer is exactly what it says it is: a comprehensive guide for teens about LGBT life. It provides the facts about what it means to be LGBT as well as providing practical advice on how to come out, how to fight homophobia, and how to generally be an awesome person. Writers Belge and Beischke offer a funny, no-frills approach to providing as much information about LGBT life to teens as possible.

This is a pretty important book. In a time when teenagers are committing suicide because of bullying rel...more

This ARC was given to me by netgalley.com for review.

I requested to read this book on netgalley.com because part of my chosen career path is offering people advice not only on their food choices and their physical health but also on their mental and spiritual health too. So getting my hands on anything that can help me learn more about issues people face is always a good thing.

My whole life I have somehow been the person that people questioning their sexua...more

I received an electronic ARC from Netgalley

Belge and Bieschke have written a teen friendly book about being queer. They use the term queer to encompass the rainbow spectrum of the LGBTQ crowd. This book addresses everything from coming out and bullying to relationships and sex. Practical advice is interspersed with personal stories from the authors and historical tidbits about being queer in the United States. The authors top it off with a resource list of...more

Read the electronic ARC on my Kindle through NetGalley. Queer is an excellent resource for LGBTQ teens! The book provides a balanced view of sensitive issues without being "preachy" or condescending. The authors tactfully answer a wide array of questions that are helpful to both the teens and the people who care about them. They do so in a way that is empowering and supportive. The resource list at the end of the book is a terrific feature.

This was a great book for LGBTQ kids with answers to all types of questions. I like the resources given throughout each chapter. My only issue with this book is the bold rainbow QUEER title. The kids in my library who would benefit the most from this are the ones who are still questioning and unsure of their place in the world. The questioning kids are the least likely ones to have the confidence to check a book with such a forward and eye catching title like this out from the library.

This book would probably be helpful for teens but because I am 20 and already gone through all of this and have taken classes and done research nothing was really new in here. It was an easy read!
Timothy
A pretty informative guide, though sometimes it feels like it tries a little too hard to try to relate to teenagers by trying to be hip and quirky.
Gabrielle Wren
Easy to follow and fun to read! Great advice and Actually relates to modern day situations. It's funny and has sarcastic and cheeky humor.
Kate
This would be good to recommend to a teen who asks for something like this. It was relatable and easy to read.
Miriasha Borsykowsky
Great advice on most things, especially dating, but very problematic around gender and trans* identities.
Laura
Skimmed it and giving it a pre-emptive five stars. Great information, excellent tone.
Seamus
This book was clear, honest, and surprisingly trans-inclusive. I enjoyed it immensely.
Terra
This book is a definite go-to for ANY teen, even if it's most helpful to the lgdt crowd!
Elsa
I like Zest books. This one gives commonsense advice for GLBT teens.
Laura
I really liked this book and read it in one day. I love the two author's tone, it's silly and not attempting to overwhelm the reader or force an opinion down their throat. The book contains some great dating tips that ANYONE can use (gay, straight, bi, whatever you please) AND is recent and updated enough to mention people like superstar Lady Gaga. The general design from cover to the individual chapters was clean and fresh. The illustrations were pretty comical and all done in purple, my favori...more

Helpful, interesting and insightful!! A very good read.

a great book for queer teens, esp on the younger or more rural spectrum! sometimes a little obvious and/or upper-classy, but overall, a good resource for queer teens as well as older adults who want to help/understand queer teens.
