Last year, I picked up a book called Devil’s Kiss on impulse. It sounded good, with a story about a girl who is the daughter of the leader of the modern day Knight’s Templar. I read this book, and I loved it. So, I was definitely going to continue the series. And Sarwat Chadda has continued the excellent writing in this next installment.

First of all, he writes a character that is complex and surprisingly likable and identifiable. Normally, authors bent on crafting realistic characters will give...more

I was hoping, really hoping, that Billi and I would get along better in DARK GODDESS than we did in DEVIL’S KISS, but after the first chapter, I realized if anything, she was worse.

The opening scene involves Billi and another Templar fighting werewolves. A little girl, Vasilisa, barely escapes after witnessing both her parents brutally attacked and (mostly) eaten right in front of her. The next chapter picks up with Billi complaining about having to sha...more

In DARK GODDESS, author Sarwat Chadda returns to the world of the Knights Templar and their youngest and only female member, Billi SanGreal. After the harrowing showdown between good and evil in THE DEVIL’S KISS, Billi is trying to recover, but reports of werewolf activity thrust her and the other knights back into action. The werewolf hunt takes them to Russia, where an ancient power is searching for a Spring Child to bring about the demise of humankind. In Russia, Billi meets the Boga...more

Violence and theme-wise, this is the most adult UF-like YA series I've come across. There is no sex, and very little cursing. It is gritty, though, and I think shows a lot more of what the reality of fighting for your life day in and day out would do to you.

Billi SanGreal is a knight, one of the Templars who fight for humanity against vampires, werewolves, demons, the occasional fallen angel and gods. There are religious overtones - the Templars are fighting for God, and vampires sell their soul...more

OK so first of i need to say WOW!!! this book totally blew me away. Sarwart Chadda has hit the top of my favourite authors list with his sequel to The Devils Kiss and I'm stoked to have had the pleasure of reading this. The Dark Goddess is a well written, fast paced book that has continuous action flowing from one page to another keeping you engaged from the beginning to the very end.

Sarwat has carefully thought out his characters and the roles they play an...more

I won't go lower than 3 stars with this book, but reading Dark Goddess after Devil's Kiss, it was all rather anti-climatic. I know. Possible apocalypse and scary all-powerful psychic witch, anti-climatic??

But yeah, it was. I felt like the first book had so much emotional depth with sacrificing of Kay, the many twists and turns, this second installment wasn't that great. The wonderful thing about Devil's Kiss was it's ability to get under your skin and really make you feel. Dark Promise didn't r...more

Dark Goddess is a fantastic, action packed sequel that completely blew me away. Be prepared to fasten your seatbelt when you sit down to read this book, as Sarwat's talent for story telling will introduce you to more fantastic characters, as he unravels his richly detailed story, full of history and folklore. This time Billi and the Knights Templar leave London behind for the city and woods of Russia to protect Vasalisa, a Spring Child that the witch Baba Yaga wants.

No spoilers for Dark Goddess, but proceed with caution if you have not read Devil's Kiss.

The Rottweiler's head lay in a bush, just off the snow-sprinkled path.

Still reeling from Kay's death, Billi SanGreal is trying to do her duty as a Templar and rid the world of the Unholy. Adjusting to a new Oracle does not make that any easier. When that Oracle, a nine-year-old girl is ripped from the safety of the Templar Order, by the Polenitsy, a group of man-eating werewolves, Billi and the rest of the...more

So I read but didn't properly review the first book starring Bilqis SanGreal, Devil's Kiss, for the YA Blogger Book Battle where it lost its bracket because I did not feel connected to Billi and her world. I thought there was immense potential within the characters though and I thought the action was kick-butt so when I saw the sequel staring me in the face at the library, I took the hint and checked it o...more

After reading the first book in this series by Sarwat Chadda I was looking forward to reading the next in the series. It did not disappoint. The writing was well written and the details were good without being too much of an overload. The book was great overall, and if there is another I would definitely be reading it.

The book starts off a few months after the last left off. Action is never far from Billi, she starts out by following this wolf named "Old Gray" whom is known to be killing all ove...more

This takes place about 2 1/2 months after the end of the second book, "Devil's Kiss."

Billi is still devistated over the loss of her best friend (and the part she played in it).

This book involves werewolves (specifically the Polenitsy, an all-female sect) and their goddess, Babba Yagga, as the main villians.

A good portion of the story takes place in Russia, along with the Bogatyrs (sort of Russian Templar Knights) led by the decendent of Anastasia Romanov (the missing Russian princess of course...more

I've now come to expect Sarwat Chadda's books to have intense openings. This one opens up with a dramatic scene and we are off running, following Billi as she chases after werewolves. Part of why I love these books is because the threat of danger these monsters present is real. They will hurt you if they want to. The author puts so much time and research into these books. We travel to Russia and learn not only about Russian culture but about werewolves and their feminst undertones. The werewolve...more

I really enjoyed the first installment, Devil's Kiss; it was an amazing novel and I have to say I felt a bit weary about what could top it, would Chadda be able to create an equally fantastic sequel? Or would it all go down the drain? But when I starting reading Dark Goddess, I was amazed yet again because this story was even better than the first one and I enjoyed every minute of it.

In this book, the action is taken place across London and Russia; the Russian setting was beautiful, it introduce...more

This is the second in the Bili SanGreal series and I think it is even better then the first! In the first book we see Billi struggling against who she is. She is angst ridden and for good reason. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t have a moody teenager for no reason, this girl has some serious drama going on. Her family is part of the Knight’s Templar and that means she is too. She has never had a normal life and there isn’t likely to be one in her future.

This time around she is dealing with with a se...more

First of all, I was so thrilled to hear that the book actually already arrived in my country, I was so excited to read it, after how many months, or probably years of waiting for the next book, I was just excited and thrilled reading this.

Okay, so I loved the book, maybe because the bad assness of Billi SanGreal, I just love her. I also loved that finally someone new is there to replace Kay in her heart, I mean they were close and sort of like crush fling with Kay, but wi...more

I really liked Devil's Kiss but DARK GODDESS is even better. Not quite as gritty, nor does it have the violent, heartbreaking ending, but still delights with daring intrigue and high adventure

One of my favorite things about Chadda's writing is the breakneck pace he delivers from page one...nay, sentence one. The story yanks you in and gives you no choice but to hang on for the ride. And it's not just action-packed. You get great character development, interesting folklore, a complex storyline an...more

OMG. Amazon werewolves, guys.

Do I need to say anything more?

Well, probably, because there is a lot more going on than just the Amazon werewolves. But they're a highlight.

The first Billi SanGreal novel, Devil's Kiss, is one of my favorite paranormal books - and in the opening chapters of Dark Goddess I remembered why. The paranormal creatures in these books are the bad guys. Well, mostly. Chadda is a savvy enough author to put in some shades of gray. But those Amazon werewolves? They're not "kiss...more

The second installment in the Dark Kiss series was just as action-packed and high energy as the first novel. We continue to follow the life of 15 year old Billi SanGreal as the Templar Knights continue to try to save mankind from all that is Unholy.

Billi and Pelleas set off in search of a renegade werewolf. The Knights have made a truce amongst the local werewolf pack. As long as the werewolves don't hunt humans, the Knights will leave them be. But every once in a while a werewolf will go rogue...more

I loved Devil's Kiss and its kick-ass heroine and I have been looking forward to reading the sequel ever since; but has Mr Chadda been able to produce a second book worthy of the first? The answer is a resounding yes - I enjoyed every moment of this.

As with Devil's Kiss Mr Chadda does not waste time easing us into his story; he kicks it off with Billi slap bang in the middle of another terrifying scene, this time up against a couple of werewolves. How we love werewolves at The Book Zone - none o...more

Untrained, she has the power to tamp down the eruption of Mount Vesuvius... from London. Dark Goddess is a suspenseful and fast paced read filled with action, terrifying creatures, and a little bit of romance. In Devil's Kiss, Billi suffered some very painful losses and had to make hard decisions. Now she is dealing with the aftermath of her choice. At the same time she has even more challenges as the depleted Templars fight a new threat in the form of werewolves and the powerful Baba Yaga. This makes for another dark story as the title implies.

Billi is a strong yet flawed character...more
