You'd think it would be perfect for me. A Regency era mystery/romance story involving horses. Lots of horses. In fact, I liked it right away. But the story lost a lot of momentum too early on. In fact, for a while it became too wrapped up in the romance to be a good mystery. Not that I really minded the intimate scenes, just that they ended up being longer than many of the sleuthing scenes.

Then the mystery is solved quickly and neatly - too pat, all around. Perhaps tacking on the vil...more

Some logic problems. For example, they keep talking about how they have no evidence of Cromarty's involvement in the swapping scheme, but Rus heard him talk about it. A witness is evidence. Also, at least one witness saw the swap, and at least five people saw Belle at the secluded stable, and several saw the lookalike in Belle's stall. That's evidence. As for the double-switch scheme, if the jockey is in on the crime, and stands to lose his life if his horse wins, it doesn't matter how many...more

I liked and disliked this book.
What I liked: vivid language, witty dialog, fresh interesting plot, engaging characters. A++++
What I did not like: Very long, drawn out internal monologs during intimate scenes and the internal dialog of the hero. It was very hard to believe that a man would think the way the Hero was thinking. It was nauseating even to me....a hopeless, head-in-the-clouds romantic. Blatant curiosity was the only reason I could stomach reading the rest of the bo...more

Dillon Caxton is disillusioned with love. Blessed with wealth, status, and stunning good looks, he has no time for marriage-hungry misses. As a guardian of the "sport of kings" he has a daring criminal scheme to thwart-one that threatens to wreak havoc on the thoroughbred racing world.

Lady Priscilla Dalloway has to rescue her horse-mad twin brother from the dangerous swindle in which he's become embroiled.

Okay when even the characters say that it is hard to remember all the Cynster people you know it is getting ridiculous. I like reading about familiar characters and all but this is getting to be a bit much.

Over all the book was good, the story dragged just a little towards the end. But it is a rather sexy read!

Under an assumed name Lady Priscilla Dalloway is attempting to inveigle her way into seeing the Breeding Registry, in order to help out her missing twin brother Rus who has stumbled upon a racing scam and may be in danger. Dillon Caxton (Flick's cousin) is the keeper of the Registry, and doesn't believe in Priscilla's pretty lies, but feels compelled to help her.

This is the second horse scandal book, this time with Flick's cousin Dillon, who had to be rescued in the previous story. A...more

So this is what the two main characters have in common: they're both so unbelievably gorgeous that beauty means nothing to them and they're able to look beneath the superficial. Seriously? And the steamy scenes got so flowery and abstract, I just started skipping over them. THAT is unheard of for me. It's a good thing Laurens is such a good writer because this formula that she uses with all the Cynster novels is wearing thin.

This book was so engrossing! In addition to the usual "I'm feisty, you're feisty, together we're spicy" romance plotline, there's a very intricate plot about horse racing and switching out horses and a gambling racket. It was fascinating! I actually enjoyed it a lot, even though I'm kind of burned out on romance novels.

In that respect, saddling herself with an innocent, sweet young thing like Miss Blake wasn't what one would expect of a clever and intelligent femme fata...more

Regency romance set not in London, for a change, but amongst the horse racing at Newmarket.

A decent romance/crime escape read in the cynster series. Formulaic but enjoyable. It lost steam for me about half way through, though.

I've read the Cynster Series in order and just completed The Price of Love. I have to say, I enjoyed Prys' personality. She is feistier that the usual Cynster Heroine (although they are all supposed to be "strong" women). The whole"most beautiful and even more beautiful" thing got a bit old at times, but it was what it was... It was emphasized for a reason. The story started out slow, but the ending makes up for it. Only Devil's story had a better ending in the series.

The books seemed good, until I started reading the intimate scenes. Oh what purple prose. It made me angry enough that by the time I got to the "deflowering" scene, I didn't want to continue reading the book. Definite wall-banger at this point. The three stars are only because of the fact that this book interested me in the rest of Cynsters (which I now won't be following up on, since I'll just get angry again when the love scenes start).

I didn't find either of the lead characters (Dillon & Pris) interesting, and the plot was essentially a re-tread of Harry & Flick's story, so the only thing that kept me reading was the setting and the supporting characters. There are better books in the "Cynster" series - this one was flat for me, so flat I have never bothered to purchase it after reading the library eBook.

why I countinue to read this auther I am not sure, but I laugh when the lady of the book has lung seizures 3x's within 3 pages, but then can do oral sex on the guy, go figure, the last part of the novel wasn't bad, actually kept my interest. Better then the once I read last week.
Kelli
For a cheesy romance novel this book is just one great part of an awesome series.
Robyn
