I read this for a scavenger hunt.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, I really don't know what I was expecting. I was confused about characters that were being mentioned and talked about that were never really introduced. I understand we're trying to get that Jamie has friends who care about him but I have no clue who they are most of the time or how they're connected. This story between a future-seeing mountain man and a well intentioned, determined woman caught my interest and exceeded my expectations. Jamie, a ruggedly sexy eccentric hero, at first seems to be a lonely hermit with serious trust issues. As the story progresses, he continues to keep his guard up when he meets and cohabits with Faith, the heroine who is set on winning his heart. I don't usually put spoilers in my reviews but I'd like to put a voice to some of my dissatisfaction and I can't quite do that without discussing specific points. First let me say that as usual Lori Foster has written a quick moving book that is enjoyable to read. I like most of the dialog and I like the overall story arc. But there are a few of things that just bug the hell out of me about this one....more While I am glad we finally got Jamie's story, I'm more than a little frustrated with this story. I don't usually put spoilers in my reviews but I'd like to put a voice to some of my dissatisfaction and I can't quite do that without discussing specific points. First let me say that as usual Lori Foster has written a quick moving book that is enjoyable to read. I like most of the dialog and I like the overall story arc. But there are a few of things that just bug the hell out of me about this one.

1. Let's start with Faith. Faith has been madly in love with Jamie since she was observing him at the institute. And yet Jamie, who knows everything and can read anyone, never saw her or knew anything about her? I'm not buying it.

How about Faith being a virgin? Um... she sure doesn't act like a virgin. She basically offers herself on a platter again and again until Jamie can't resist any longer. All because her eight year old daughter told her Jamie would like her? "Mom, drive someplace, abandon your vehicle, hitchhike, climb a mountain in the rain, and when a hostile stranger strips you, tries to throw you out, and violates you - I want you to have sex with him." "Sure thing honey. I guess I'll be off then." Does Faith always do everything that her eight year old daughter tells her to do? Then when she does have sex, and quite a bit of it at that, she holds the strangest conversation in the whole book. 'You didn't use a rubber.' 'Nope.' 'It's OK. I can't get pregnant.' 'I know.' And then this is not explained or referenced ever again. She has no scars indicating any type of surgery. She has no sexual history to explain why her fertility would be checked. Do we get an explanation? No. We get, "Don't worry. I won't get pregnant. I can't." "I know." End of conversation.

How about Faith's history? How exactly did she end up with the baby? This bitch who was so cold hearted that she would whore herself to her lover by having unprotected sex with a prisoner for the sake of experimentation would allow for a pregnancy to go to term and then give the baby to an employee that quit? Not buying that either. And yet not only does she end up with the kid, but with the only copy of Jamie's research records? Is this making sense to anyone else?

2. Let's talk about the second most important female character in the book, Alyx Winston. This is 'little miss I'm going to trust Jamie about everything he tells me except when it comes to my own relationships' we are talking about. She is only in town to visit for a day or so when she sees a stranger in town and decides to follow her. She sees the stranger dress in costume and beat a man with a stick. She doesn't step in to help. She doesn't report it to her deputy lover. Instead she steals the abused man's dog. Alyx happens to show up the second time that this visiting woman beats the crap out of a local resident. Again Alyx doesn't help. She doesn't offer to call the police. She stays close enough to eavesdrop and leaves. Why Scott would possibly want to get with such a cold and deceitful woman is beyond me. Most frustrating character in the book hands down.

3. The many other plot holes and problems. There were just so many little things that drove me nuts. How does Jamie get electricity to his remote mountain cabin? As soon as Jamie saw Corey in person he knew she was his daughter. I suppose people look differently than when you see them through other people's eyes or when you have face to face psychic link visions. Everyone shows up along a stretch of remote mountain road and doesn't notice the Porsche parked off to the side so the bad guys can sneak up on them? I just don't buy any of it.

So overall I'm glad that the Visitation NC series is brought to a close. I liked the overall story arc. I liked most of the characters. I liked a lot of the dialog. But as for pot and consistency, this one was a real mess. I would have given two stars but I really did like it despite myself.(less)

Different kind of book, an average read. Jamie struck me as a "unibomber" type. Much like Ted K., living in a cabin, reclue, shaggy hair and beard. He struck me as kind of creepy at first, but I utimately really enjoyed his character (though I think that was the intent.) Initially, the story and Jamie's background was a bit tough to follow. I stuck with it and as the story started to unfold, it did get much more interesting. It also had a bit of humor to it, which gave it a little charm.

Before Faith Owen shows up on his mountain, Jamie's biggest problem is keeping track of all the information his mind is open to, and dealing with the inhabitants of Visitation who are determined to befriend and care about him. His powers and his history force him to separate himself from society, but in the past he has not been able to stand idly by when he senses a threat to the people in town. He's gotten involved (butted in, some of them might say), and it has earned him some friendships he's reluctant to accept.

When a summer storm hits, Jamie finds himself being tracked. Clint, the local sheriff, is trying to find him to make sure he's okay, but he's not the only one. Faith Owen is struggling to get up the mountain as well, and when he finds her, she knows him. Not only that, she knows how to block his telepathy.

This sends Jamie into a paranoid spiral that starts with him throwing away her clothing and causes him to look deeply into his past. He finds himself discussing with Faith things he never talked about with anyone else, but it's easier because she already knows. And Faith has her own reasons for being there. Harming Jamie is the last thing she wants, but there are others who would, and the sense of danger increases his paranoia.

Unfortunately, Jamie's story isn't interesting enough to fill up his own book. This was disappointing to me, because there was so much potential, and his presence in the previous novels hinted at a really intriguing story. He and Faith end up sharing their novel with Alyx Winston (the sister of Joe, from Say No to Joe?) and Deputy Scott Royal. Their romance has also played out through the series, and it finally cements in this book, complete with the Big Misunderstanding and Declaration of Love scenes. As for Jamie and Faith, they spend a lot of time sitting around talking in his cabin. Jamie is a good character, developed throughout four other books, with the potential to have a really exciting backstory and suspenseful conclusion. He doesn't get either. He does get a "surprise" twist at the end, but I saw it coming 10 miles away so I doubt it was really meant to be a surprise.

All the action is going on in town, with Scott and Alyx in the middle of it. But it's completely ridiculous action. Throughout this series I was plagued by the thought, "But real people don't act this way!" The conflict is really vague and confusing for most of the novel, and even at the end it just didn't make that much sense. I don't know why I keep expecting more from Foster's novels. I'm constantly disappointed by the writing and plots. It seems like everything that happens is a contrived device to throw together two scorching hot people who can't think past their raging lust. Half of each book involves the characters just looking at each other, and thinking about how sexy the other person is. Frankly, it gets kind of boring. The best parts are when all of the characters from the previous books are interacting, but by this point there were so many of them that the prose gets really juvenile. They are consistently referred to as "the men" or "the wives," even in dialogue. Group scenes end up getting described in chunks just to show where everyone is. And while the interactions are sometimes amusing, they are still, for the most part, unrealistic. No wonder somebody in my building dumped all her books in the laundry room.(less)

The Visitation, NC series (or any Lori Foster novels that I’ve read, for that matter) are filled with beautiful, sexy, and independent women. While the men are smart, macho, tough guys – yet gentle and caring.

And I think what really makes her books so popular and well-loved is that she comes up with all these likeably perfect characters. And that's pretty hard to do.

This is the fist book of the series that I have read. I definitely will go back and read all the others. This book reminds me of Janet chapmans books, which I adore and re read yearly.

I love this series but gotta say, Jamie is plain ol' flipping creeeepy. I think this may be the first time a hero has actually given me the willies and had me cringing with a WTF expression taking up damn near permanent residence on my face. The first 100 pages are so bizarre. Jamie find Faith trooping up his mountain and goes to confront her but as soon as he reaches her she collapses from exhaustion and illness. Then he searches her for tracking devices. He feels her up, and I mean really feels her up, and doesn't miss checking anywhere. I'm way the hell over here and I was so damn uncomfortable. And Faith just lets him go at it. I don't care why she was there or what she needed from him. I'd be slapping the ever living hell out of him. I get that he's paranoid because of his past but damn. ::shudder:: Thankfully it does get better but damn that first bit is a doosey.

Foster's characters are usually so easy to fall for. Quirky but personable and draw you in right away. Jamie and Faith, though, are characters that really have to grow on you. Jamie is socially awkward and uncomfortable with the idea of having friends after years of isolation due to his telepathic abilities. It's a struggle for him to have Faith in his home and the people of Visitation trying to be his friends. Now, Faith. She's a determined woman and I can respect her for that but I did find her refusal to explain things very frustrating. The whole plot is that she needs Jamie's help and he just has to accept her without getting all the details or really any of the details. Frustrating! But she does have redeeming qualities, namely, the way she accepted Jamie how he was and the positive impact she had on his life.

While this wasn't my favorite of the series there were some fantastic moments along the way that made it worth the read. Especially when Jamie cleaned himself up and dropped the mountain man act. His friends were used to him being mysterious, showing no emotions and being a man of few words. Suddenly he's all cleaned up and actually showing a sense of humor, being rather chatty. Loved how shocked and flustered they all got over the new Jamie. Especially the men's reactions. Easily the best part of the book.

The very ending was a little corny but it was the last book in the series so I kinda liked it. All the past characters have their big group moment together. Just like with a tv series finale it's a bit sappy, a little over the top silly and cheesy and you can't help but smile and go aaawwww. Overall, I really enjoyed the Visitation, NC series. It wasn't at all what I expected but it was worth the read. The heroes and heroines were pretty unique and a couple of them found their way to my favorites list. They weren't your typical characters, to say the least, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. Even Jamie and his creepy self. (less)

First half of book did not flow like Lori Foster's normally do. It was aggravating to read and had the reader desperately needing some answers. The story and the emotions of the characters eventually made sense and were all tied up towards and at the end. For a change, the end to this story was full, complete and satisfying. It was not abrupt nor was it lacking. I am glad I read this through to the end.

This is the book that got me hooked on Lori Foster. I totally buy according to cover and this one caught my eye. Of course it was the last story of her Visitation series. This story can be a "read alone" but I personally felt like I was missing out on all the characters. Once I read it I went back and read all 5 in order. I had high expectations of this book. Jamie has always been a mysterious character throughout this series. However this book was a huge letdown. It did not explore the characters' developments or add to the story. You as a reader find out Jamie's backstory but it's not as interesting and involved as I would have thought it would be. Jamie's been an interesting character throughout the series and this story about him was really good with an exciting ending. I just wish it unfolded faster although secondary romance was nice. Jamie carries a naked Faith to his mountain hideout but isn't sure if he should trust her.

I'm beginning to feel like a book grouch since I'm not overly impressed with much I've been reading lately. Not sure what the problem is. But, dang 147 pages of cabin scene nearly did me in.

"Why are you here, Faith?"
"I can't tell you, Jamie. Not yet. Please just trust me."

We went through this more times than I can count. There is only so much of that type conversations I can take.

I don't actually recommend this book to anyone I know--because it's a romance novel. However, this isn't one of those Harlequin novels. . .so I am rationalizing. . .and I really enjoyed the book.

I love reading about how characters in stories develop their relationships, and this story was great. I also loved reading about how Jamie slowly changed his whole attitude, demeanor, and expressions.

I really dislike manipulative heroines. Maybe especially when they seem to think that what they're doing is for the other character's own good. Of course, that usually coincides with what they want for themselves, as it does here. I only got a 120 pages into this. Didn't like what I'd seen, didn't like where it was too obviously going. Stopped reading.

I loved this book! Lori's writing is smooth and easy to absorb. The story is very sweet, sexy, intriging and will keep you turning the pages. I found myself really rooting for the couple in the book.
