I love thrillers, but I hate the type where every page is a blood bath, and the author focuses more on grossing out the reader than on trying to create a good story.

That's why I am so happy to have discovered Tess Gerritsen. She offers a page-turner that actually has a plot that makes me want to keep reading.

Body Double is one of my first Gerritsen books, but I wasn't hampered by the fact that I wasn't familiar with the characters. The author does a great job of making everyone accessible, whi...more

Tess Gerritsen has done it again! And this one was amazing!

Boston medical examiner, Dr Maura Isles, was relaxing for a few days in Paris after a conference before heading home, and back to work. When she arrived back in Boston, she discovered the airlines had lost her luggage, so after filling in lost property forms, she finally hailed a cab to take her home. She was exhausted from the long flight, so when she roused herself from the doze she'd been in, the cabbie was braking hard, and talking...more

Dr. Maura Isles comes home to Boston from a medical conference in Paris to discover police investigating a murder just outside her home. And the victim is her exact double.

DNA tests reveal the murder victim is, in fact, her twin sister, though the doctor, an adoptee, wasn’t aware she had any siblings. Subsequent investigation discloses she and her twin were sold to a baby broker lawyer by a psychotic woman serving a life term for a double homicide. Could that woman be their mother?

The story proc...more

Tess Gerritsen – 8th book
Ballantine Books, 2004 – Hardcover
Dr. Maura Isles returns from a conference in Paris to find a crime scene in front of our house, friends and co-workers looking shocked to see her and a car containing a murder victim who looks nearly identical to her. Tracking back the victim and their relationship leads to an unknown murderer of pregnant women.
*** Tess Gerritsen knows how to write suspense; and this is definitely suspense and...more

I had recently read 'Bone Garden' and wanted to read more of Gerritsen's books. When I got this book, I didn't realize it was the middle book in a series. It didn't matter though because any reference to previous cases (books) were not indepth enough to make me feel like I was missing a piece of a puzzle. However, now I have decided my next book in this series will be the first one; might as well read them in order now.
Body Double is the story of Medical Examiner, Isles, discovering who her biol...more

I enjoyed this book much more than the other Tess Gerritsen book I read, Vanished. This one was quick and entertaining. Unfortunately, I don't think this was the next one in sequence like I thought it was. She made references to things that happened in other books that I haven't read yet so that kind of ruined it. I can't read The Surgeon now becuase this book gave away the ending. I found Maura and Jane to be more likable this time around. I didn't know what to think about Ballard until the end...more

Dr. Maura Isles finds that a murdered womsn looks just like her. In her interest to find an explanation she learns that her life is not what she thought. She is forced to see everything under new eyes. It is such a good thriller that I found myself turning the pages faster trying to escape from the horror felt. Great read

While this is classified as another Jane Rizzoli book, it really centers more on Medical Examiner Maura Isles, who returns from a trip to France to discover a rather unpleasant thing--someone who looks like her twin has been murdered in her driveway. This sets off a search for a mass murderer who appears to have been leaving a trail of blood all across the United States for some 30 years or more. Less blood and gore than previous Gerritsen books, but another page turner. I finished this book on...more

Another great Gerristen novel.

This one is one of my favorites mostly because I really enjoy the character of Dr. Maura Isles.

What I like about some authors is their ability to create likeable characters and continue their personal stories throughout a series of really good mysteries. This book focus on the history of Dr. Isles - the medical examiner dubbed "the Queen of the Dead." It is hard to say too much about this story without giving anything away, but I will say that parts of this mystery had me guessing all the way to the end.

Another strong book by Tess Gerritsen... I continue to be drawn in by her unique stori...more

When you read one, you gotta read the other when you find it at a used book store for 2 dollars, so I picked it up and same deal it was as if I was watching television when I read her books, my imagination just takes it there and she writes it well enough for the picture to be perfect. Now when I think of the two books of hers that I have read it is as if I think of them in the way I would remember a movie. vivid imagery. is that how you spell imagery? it looks silly...entertainment if you like...more

Alright, so book four in the series was definitely a clincher. Tess you have me hooked on the series with this book. I very much enjoyed this book. As many readers have found, The Apprentice (book two) was kind of a let down and had many wondering if they should continue with the series. I read The Sinner (book three) which was okay, much better than The Apprentice, but did give me hope for the series. I am glad I picked up Body Double (book four) as t...more

As pessoas qua...more

As a medical examiner for a large city like Boston, what would be your greatest worry? Finding someone you know, on your table, ready for an autopsy, most likely. Dr. Maura Isles isn’t nearly so lucky as to simply find someone she knows before her, no, she’s presented with a dead body bearing her exact same face… and in front of her own home. The real question is, who is this woman and why exactly is she dead? That’s what Maura and he...more

Dr. Maura Isles makes her living dealing with death. As a pathologist in a major metropolitan city, she has seen more than her share of corpses every day–many of them victims of violent murder. But never before has her blood run cold, and never has the grim expression “dead ringer” rung so terrifyingly true. Because never before has the lifeless body on the medical examiner’s table been her own.

Yet there can be no denying the mind-reeling evidence before her shocked eyes and those of her colleag...more

I read Tess Gerritsen's Body Double after reading Elizabeth George's Careless in Red. This gave me a chance to compare/contrast two writers who pursue the same genre. Gerritsen's skills are definitely pedestrian compared to George's. There's nothing impressive about the language of the former, nor does one gain any insight into the human condition, unlike the latter, who excels at both. Gerritsen does turn out a page turner, though. The reader is pretty much guaranteed to race through her book--...more

A long time ago I asked someone I knew who is a big reader for recommendations of scary stuff to read. The list I got back was thick with Lovecraft, which is fine, but this Tess Gerritsen stuff is what I was looking for.

This series is the equivalent of a cheap b-grade horror movie where a heroine walks into the kitchen and the music indicates that something very scary is about to happen and then the music crescendos as a cat jumps from his hiding place on top of the refrigerator onto the heroine...more

Tess Gerritsen gives her books three major themes that I crave and love: knowledgeable information, gripping storyline, and realistic characters. A fourth but not required theme that she always throws in, much to my pleasure, is trust in the reader to be intelligent.

Body Double is no disappointment. I finished this book in two days, causing my roommate to believe I had died in the bathtub. I was in fact sitting in room temperature water looking like a wrinkled old lady because I couldn't set it...more

I briefly met Tess Gerritsen at the Love is Murder writers conference a few years ago, and sat a couple seats away from her at the luncheon. She was very pleasant and had an active interest in other people around her. At the time I hadn't yet read any of her books, and, frankly, didn't feel like they would have been my cup of tea.

So a couple months ago, I stumbled across her new book ICE COLD. On a flier, I got it and started reading it, and I loved it. It didn't matter at all that it's ... what...more

Good plot, but sub-plot about twin reduces suspense...

We've had mixed feelings about Tess Gerritsen's medical thrillers. We find her stories tend toward violence and gore, of which we could use less and still be entertained. But her characters Boston ME Maura Isles and, in this novel, a very pregnant homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli, are interesting; and the serial killer plot of "Body" is well crafted. What detracts from the story line is ironically what first grabbed our attention -- at the sta...more

I am not what experts call an auditory learner. Say something to me, and I will for sure forget it within 15 minutes. This is especially evident when being introduced to new people. I've lived next door to a couple for almost a year whose names I could not tell you under threat of duress. Seriously, waterboarding would not work, because the honest truth is, I forgot their names in the same instant I was told them. (Nice people, but that's beside the point I suppose. Just didn't want to give the...more

I gave this book three stars but would have preferred to fit it somewhere in between a 2 and a 3. Gerritsen writes some good stuff, always full of twists and turns. This one is not her best effort, in my opinion, but still a decent read.

Maura (a recurring character) Isles is a medical examiner. She returns from a trip to find her house surrounded by police (some of whom she knows through her office) examining a body that they thought was hers. the mystery begins.. how could there be someone who...more

Body Double by Tess Gerritsen

Dr. Maura Isles' world changed all of a sudden when she found out that the woman who was murdered right in front of her house resembled her in every possible ways. The mystery intensified when she learned that the deceased was none other than her twin sister. The cop Jane Rizzoli who was brave, determined and also pregnant was in charge of the investigation. As the story progressed, the duo they had to face a series of blood cuddling events. As deep as they dug, they...more

Body Double is the 4th in Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli/Isles series. The story starts with Maura Isles arriving home from a conference in Paris, to find the police at her home, called to a shooting. The victim looks uncannily like Maura, so much so that Rizzoli, Frost and co thought it was her. Whilst Maura was an only child, she was adopted, and DNA tests prove that this woman was her twin sister. Maura endures the singular experience of seeing her own body autopsied. As Rizzoli and Frost investiga...more

Internationally bestselling author Tess Gerritsen took an unusual route to a writing career. A graduate of Stanford University, Tess went on to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where she was awarded her M.D.

While on maternity leave from her work as a physician, she began to write fiction. In 1987, her first novel was published. Call After Midnight, a romantic thriller...more
