World: 4/5
Romance: 2/5

Enjoyment level: 3/5 stars

I love the premise of this series - individually I also loved the characters (mostly). I just didn't like what the author did with Larena. She is supposed to be a kick-ass warrior - but came across as an insecure mess most of the time.

As for the romance.... well it was too much insta-everything. Insta-love, insta-lust, insta-angst.... just mostly pissed me off as the rest of the storyline was

I thought I loved the first book in this series, but this one is definitely my favorite. I think Fallon has to be my favorite warrior! From page one until the end there is always something happening and just keeps you glued to the book. Full of action, love, Romance, mystery and more!I love that in this book Donna gave us a woman full of power and just as strong as the male warriors. Everything just went together and was very easy to envision. Donna Grant's Dark Sword series is slowly climbing t ...more

Loved it! I can't wait for Quinn's story...and I think I'll have to wait a while for it considering this one just came out!
I'll write a "real" review later-I have to feed the kids...I ignored them to finish the book :)
This series is like Lay's Potato Chips; when you have the bag you just eat it all. I LOVED this book. I could barely put it down. I completely and wholeheartedly devoured this book. I thought that the story line was absolutely fluid and kept pace with the 1st book. One thing that I will point out about the book that I had a slight problem with, was the immediate connection between Larena & Fallon. I thought that they were thrown together a little to quickly. Now, with me having said that I c ...more

Why I read: Received for review from publisher.

Fallon MacLeod is a Warrior, forced to accept a God into himself. He is immortal, having been alive 300 years and within him and his two brothers rests the god of revenge. Deirdre, a drough, a druid that has given herself to black magic captured Fallon and his brothers Lucan and Quinn all those years ago. But now Deirdre has Quinn in her grasp again, hidden away in her fortress and Fallon is desperate to get him back.

Fallon’s family has lost all th
After going through my very first disappointment with Donna Grant's Dark Sword series (see rant/review on Dangerous Highlander) I bravely decided to continue and give another shot at it, praying for the best. I was a hopeless fool it seems.

Fallon MacLeod was to become the next laird of his clan, when the god inside him was unleashed. After the extinction of his people and going through hell, he kept himself detouched and in line by drinking. Failing his newly formed family is not an option for h

I like the series but there is something lacking . It doesn't hold my attention. I hate the way it just stops at the end of the book. It is not really a cliffhanger, but the story is unfinished. It is unlike any story I have read that is a series. Maybe it would be better to have it all be in one book.

Romantic scenes, I found myself skipping over them.

I loved this troubled tale of Fallon and Larena! So sad that Malcolm had the run in he had and I am a bit weary of Broc... I hope he isn't really on Dierdre's side and is only spying....
(view spoiler) I enjoyed watching Fallon allow himself to become the leader he was meant to be... The love scenes in this were so mmmm delicious and then to find out Malcolm is a warrior too!!??? talk abo
First off for me I LOVED the characters and the story line in this book. Donna did a fabulous job at this but at times it felt like Donna veered off of the path of the story with too many thoughts. I found myself skimming through to get to the interesting parts. This book could have easily been a 5 star book for me if it would have kept my attention all the way through. Like I said the characters and story line in this series are fabulous and I do want and will continue with this series because ...more

Forbidden Highlander is book two in the Dark Sword series.
I enjoyed to book and I am glad the plot moved forward.

The MacLeod brothers are the last of his clan, Immortals and Warriors hosting the same god. Their castle and family were destroyed by Deirdre a dark Druid. With Cara's arrival, other Warriors - Hayden, Galen, Logan, Ramsey - and a Druid - Sonia - have joined the brothers and Fallon must go and try and take back his castle from the King.
His journey to the court leads him to the only f

I truly loved this one and many of the elements of the story had me captivated. I have recently fell in love with Grant's historical paranormal series, and this series is so unique and different and not what you expect, in fact I might lean toward a bit more fantasy. In Forbidden Highlander we have three brothers, who are immortal, and each of them have a beast inside of them, with godlike gifts. Fallon's brother has been taking hostage by their nemesis and he is desperate to find a way to free ...more
Book one, Dangerous Highlander, was $2.99 but the rest of the books are not. So I had do the paperback on sale with a coupon thing to keep going with these intriguing brothers. This book is about the eldest brother Fallon. He was the drunk of the family in book one. He drank to keep his god leashed because he feared he couldn't control it. He grew a set in the first book so we find him much better off at the beginning of this one. He still has some issues but he's not living in a bottle any long ...more

Another great story by Donna Grant. Loving the Dark Swords series. Fallon’s story was as good as Logan’s. So much happens in this one.

Fallon, who up until now is broken or at least thinks he is, drowns himself in wine to drown out his god. Fear does that to him. Meeting Larena, Fallon learns to turn that fear into courage, because he learns to care and love Larena. She’s a fierce female Warrior, who’s fear spurs Fallon’s protectiveness and forces him to face his own fears to protect her. Larena,

LOVED this one! Fallon is every kind of awesome and so far my favorite of the brothers! Larena was pretty fiercely spectacular too. A female warrior? Who knew!

It was great to watch Fallon finally embrace his role as a leader and take charge and be the head of his clan as he was always meant to be. Watching him leave the castle and venture out into the world for the first time in centuries was very touching. He meets Larena during the course of this and their attraction is immediate and undeniab

FORBIDDEN HIGHLANDER by Donna Grant is a spellbinding historical romance set in 1603 Edinburgh, Scotland. It is the second in A Dark Sword Novel, but can easily be read as a stand alone. Some of the characters from the first book Dangerous Highlander reappear in this one also.It has danger, romance, sensuality, secrets, passion, demons, druids, an extremely evil witch who is after more power, dark magic, find their destinies, true love and a battle to overcome an ancient curse. The hero, Fallon ...more

Forbidden Highlander by Donna Grant

I just finished reading Donna Grant's Forbidden Highlander", her second book in the Dark Sword series. I loved her characters. Fallon MacLeod is a fierce immortal Highlander, also a Warrior who has a God inside his soul. And Larena Monroe is a beautiful woman, a female Warrior, who's Goddess inside her soul, makes her invisible. Larena was banished from the Monroe Clan. She had been alone most of her time as a Warrior. She learned early on, not to tru

In Donna’s second book of her Dark Sword Series, Forbidden Highlander, we met with Fallon MacLeod, the oldest of the MacLeod brothers. He has taken on his leadership role in order to make up for the past. Lucan MacLeod is at his brother’s side and stepping in when his brother is away. And Quinn, unfortunately, was taken captive by Deirdre where he is staying strong to control his god from being released. Deirdre wants him to release his god that way it will consume him.

I didn't like this one as much as the first but I still loved the on-going plot. I really liked Fallon but I had problems with Larena's wishy-washiness. One minute she's all over him and the next she's sneaking out of his bed. I like that there is a traitor in Deidre's camp who is surreptitiously slipping the MacLeod's intel. Deidre is one evil bitch and I sure hope the MacLeod brothers kick her ass but good!

Poor Quinn, I can't wait for his book. I am wondering which druid is his HEA. Hmmm
I really enjoyed Fallon's story, I'm a little upset that Quinn is still being held by the evil Deirdre... Thank God that book's been written already so I jump into it next! :)

Things are really starting to heat up, I'm really looking forward to the rescue mision. The build up in this one was intense. I'm glad they are working to make a plan and not just storming the mountain. In the first book I was intrigued by Galen, this time it's Broc that has me wondering :)
If you haven't read book one, go back, because the must be read in order for plot and world-building.

Fallon and his brothers have been in hiding from a druid who wants to use them and others like them for her own nefarious means. They have been in hiding for about 300 years and have now deciding to come out of hiding to fight for what they want.

Lucan, the middle brother, found love and his will to fight (for the love of his life and his brothers) in the first book. Also, in that book their bro

I sort of cheated when it came to this series.

I discovered the Dark Kings and Dark Warriors before I realized everything started with these novels. So glad I decided to go back and read these.

In "future" books I read about the MacLeod brothers and how awesome they were but didn't know much of their back story. Reading about Fallon...right now he's my favorite but who knows since next I move on to Quinn.

While I really enjoyed this story, I liked the connection between the H/h better in the first book. In this second novel, we follow Fallon while he tries to reestablish his role as leader within his family. After 300 years of drinking away his misery and hiding from the God within him, Fallon is forced to accept what he has become and start to care and look out for others.
Oh dear. I had a feeling this would happen. I just honestly don't like Donna Grant writing.

When I readDangerous Highlander two years ago, I liked the premise, but was bored when it came to the characters, and the quick insta-lust. My feelings are mirrored by this book. The characters felt unoriginal and the chemistry felt too forced.

I still like Quinn, though, so I may pick up the next volume just to see if his story gets any better, but I may need to take another two year hiatus from this seri

Ahh poor insecure Fallon. He is such a sweetie. I enjoyed this one although I think Quinn or Lucan is still in running as my faves for the brothers. I have a small crush on Galen though. Cant wait for his story.
