The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners is another didactic story, telling how Sister and Brother and Papa Bear behave rudely, and poor, saintly Mama Bear must bring them back from the brink of barbarism.
The story, such as it is, is simple and direct. Mama's family is behaving rudely, and she will not stand for it. She tries coaxing, complaining, and shouting, and she tries enlisting Papa Bear to shout at the children, and none of these things cause them to be more polite. Eventually More...

This is a wonderful childrens book that teaches young ones the importance of remembering their manners.
In this book it seems the bear cubs continue to forget their manners and papa doesn't help. Mama bear comes up with a politeness plan for the whole family. In the plan each manner that is forgotten has a consequence like clean the celler or beat two rugs.
Brother and Sister decide to be super-polite in hopes that Mama will forget and call it all off. Papa seems to be the worst More...

I like the different real life scenarios the Berenstain Bears books deal with and the practical solutions they suggest. Mama Bears penalties for bad manners seems good, although helping around the house should hopefully be part of working as a family team. My biggest complaint is that Papa Bear is always painted in such a bad light that I think it gives the wrong impression. I guess it is good that the kids are able to feel smart for reminding him, but it also seems to make him look oafish an

This is a good book to read during the 1st 6 weeks of school. This book would go along with introducing the students to whatever management plan I wanted. I would reference mother bear's management plan as I told the students about mine. I would let them know that the crime will fit the punishment.
This is a good book to teach cause and effect/ problem and solution to the students. They could hear/read the book and find both concepts since they are in the book.

"The Berenstain Bears Forget Their Manners" is a great book for many reasons! I would share this book with Pre-K and Kindergarteners upon arriving to school. Manners is a very important aspect of being in school and in life in general. This story would obviously teach students how important it is to have good manners. If I were using this book for a language arts lesson, I would show students how to use dialogue and/or repetition when they are writing.

I think there's a very good reason that this book series has spanned decades and maintained popularity. It gives children the chance to think on their own and make their own choices for behaviors that carry over into their adult lives. Many of these issues will be ones that will persist through their lives, just on different levels of course.
I love the nostalgia reading this as an adult. Even grown-ups struggle with good manners I see people everyday that could use more home training a More...

"When the Bears begin to forget their manners, Mama develops a ""Bear Family Politeness Program,"" requiring a service activity (such as sweeping, dusting, or rug beating) as a consequence for any infraction. While Papa starts out as the most frequent plan violator, he learns that good manners are even more important in adult interactions than juvenile ones."

I like this book however I don't completely agree with Momma Bear using chores as a consequence for bad manners. Helping with chores should be something that is done because a family is a team and want to help each other instead of seen as a negative; however having good manners is an important thing to learn.

This was a very funny and entertaining book. Brother and Sister start pushing, fighting, and name calling. The parents start giving consequences for rude behavior. Children can learn manners from not doing what Brother and Siter was doing.

My son is a huge fan of the Berenstain Bears, I am not. That being said, the book isn't completely horrible. My issue is that the B. B. series has very predictable, dull text and the story line is rather cheesy.

The bear family forgets their manners and mama bear reminds them of how to be polite. She creates a list. Good for talking about list making, being polite, and making text to self connections.

This a good book about manners and how important they are. This would be good if your students were lacking basic manners. This book also talks about why we need manners.

The Berenstain Bears were a favorite of mine growing up. This book gives a valuable lesson about the Berenstain family forgetting their manners and mama having enough. A great moral book to reinvorse the idea of good manners.

Good manners is so under-rated these days but this is a good book that reinforces the importance of being polite.

I remember this story as being wildly entertaining. (As tired as it became, I think everyone enjoyed Papa Bear being such a flawed character.) Every Berenstain Bears story offered a clearly laid-out, almost-perfect solution to a family problem, and this one was particularly detailed, to an unrealistic degree. How many families after reading this book actually did set up a chart of strict rules of behavior and corresponding punishments for every transgression? It makes a good story for kids a
