I have a whole set of the original Nancy Drew mysteries, purchased used for me when I was a child, and a few years ago I pulled one out to read to my daughter. She periodically asks for another Nancy Drew mystery, and so we tediously made our way through this one. It's low on action--Nancy doesn't get kidnapped, drugged, knocked out, or even menaced (except by a sore loser at a costume ball). There are only two brief instances of offensive racial caricaturing (a maid and a janitor; I left out th

First a quick summary - Nancy invites the postman in for a cup of hot cocoa and his mailbag is stolen from the entrance way. Inside the bag was a special delivery letter for Nancy all the way from England. Fast forward, Nancy learns that the letter was for Nancy Smith-Drew and it was about a small inheritance; Nancy and her friends Bess and George set about finding this other Nancy Drew and solving the the mystery of who stole the mailbag. Of course the mysteries are intertwined. Nancy and the g

The entire Nancy Drew series has good, well-thought out mysteries, but it's like a Norman Rockwell painting. Nancy is just too perfect, along with the rest of her life. Her father, friends, boyfriend and maid all act exactly like their supposed to. Pretty much the only fault you will find is that Bess is a little fat, which tends to get mentioned in a slightly different way every book. Chubby Beth, or slightly overwieght Beth, or enthusiastic eater Beth. After a few books you begin to see th

I reckon that the copy of this book which I own is from the 1960s due to the style of drawings, but it appears to be the original 1932 text. I now understand the statement on Wikipedia which said that the British publishers of Nancy Drew "revised" the books to suit the British audience. The British Nancy Drew books which I've read (one of which was published as early as the 70s) have a lot more detail in them, and appear to portray Nancy as a young woman in the 1950s, not the 1930s. More recycling! Nancy has a double again, except this time the double is in name, not in appearance. After a series of events that gets a bag of mail stolen, Nancy finds out that one of those stolen letters was for her, from a law firm in Britain. Her lawyer dad manages to get a copy of the letter from the firm, and though it is a really exciting letter about getting a huge inheritance, it is for a different Nancy Drew — who conveniently happens to be in the River Heights area just now.

Kelsey and I have read this book. It's pretty cool to enjoy books right along with Kelsey. "The Secret of the Old Clock" is the only one of the Nancy Drew mysteries that I had when I was younger. Kelsey and I are now reading #13 - The Mystery of the Ivory Charm. If you like mystery, if you have a young reader you want to encourage...I highly recommend these for some together time that's well worth it. Good to the last page! :-)

I remember the cover of this one too! I read a description of the book and that didn't ring any bells, but I sure do remember the cover. I think I owned this one too. I had the first few in that series, but no way did I read the entire series. They kind of got boring after a while. Something mysterious always happened around Nancy and then she solved the mystery. Whatever!

Nostalgic detective stories starring our down-to-earth next-door neighbor type teenage girl, Nancy Drew. I read them when I was around 15 and they were enjoyable for a short, quick read on a lazy boring Summer weekend.

I read all the Nancy Drew books (and the Hardy Boys) when I was a child, but I will admit that I have read them all again as an adult (a few years ago). The stories are old fashioned, but that's why I like them so much.

This has got to be one of the more convoluted Nancy Drew books. Awash in overwhelming coincidence, Nancy tracks down another Nancy Drew, who a) has inherited a great deal of money b) is being pursued by the con artist brother of Nancy's mailman who discovered that Nancy2 had gotten the money when he stole mail from his brother in order to get to the Drews' mail because one of Mr. Drew's clients was also a victim of one of the bad guy's cons 3) Ned Nickerson's acting coach 4) The former governess

This was a very believable, down to earth Nancy Drew book. There wasn't a completely crazy plot, but it was a good read. The only thing with this one was that there really weren't any suspects...just one guy.
