how i learned i was a shallow piece of shit with a subby streak.

description

it went like this:

His disinterest in women made him a must-have. And he could be had, because the women were safer than the guys. He hadn’t met a guy who was to die for.

to die for. as in, of AIDS? ok.

Back when Tom and Wells had been lovers, Law had invaded Tom’s apartment and ordered both of them to get blood tests. Tom remembered Wells bridling at the command. “You can’t order me—!“

“The hell I can’t,” Law cut him off. “Both of you.

Oh the difficult.

I read this because two friends were arguing about it.

And ... gosh ... my feelings, they are quite mixed.

On the one hand, I kind of enjoyed it. It’s almost irritatingly engaging.

On the other hand, it hurt my face. And I’m quite resentful of the ways it hurt my face because it kept lulling my face into relaxed amusement, and then punching it hard.

So, basically, I feel I slightly abused, like Charlie Brown and the football:

Force of Law: Come here baby, it’ll be fine I promise...

I'm feeling really betrayed by those who said this was so good and Law wonderful. I just don't even get how this could be called sweet. I know I don't understand D/s but the dubcon was outright rape. When someone is terrified and says no over and over again and believes the other guy is straight and trying to hurt him and he's crying--a man crying for God's sake--and the other guy keeps going, I don't care where it ends up. It's rape. I don't care if while overpowering him and holding him down j ...more

I have to say I loved this book. It's not so much the actual sex (although it is hot!). I'm talking about the to die for alpha, Law. This character could be the lead in any romantic genre (straight, gay, bi) and be absolutely irresistible. This is not a bdsm book or menage, it is simply a super hot love story where a man knows what he wants and will do anything to get it. In this case it is Tom, his cousin's ex lover whom he has pined for since the beginning.

At first Law comes off as a complete

Someone described this as old school Harlequin romance & I can't think of a better description than that. The alpha man Law is like: Hey you get into my car, get into my bed. I'm the man, you're the bitch. The first sex scene with Tom is: It's all no, no, stop, don't & rides on the edge of non con date rape but whew, like any good Harlequin virgin, Tom's no means yes & Law is the man who knows it all. There's even a scene where Law decides to go bareback without so much as a discussi ...more

This book is now one of my comfort reads ... every time I need to tackle a challenge book that is going to test my resolve & make me squirm, I grab this feel-good smex fest ... love, love, love it.

Original review...

I have read this book multiple times now & I still love it. Although it has been shelved as BDSM, it really isn't. Law is definitely über alpha, no question about that, but his dominating behaviour stays on the vanilla side of the line. I'm not sure why this book

"It's not like what you're thinking!" This saying usually we hear when a spouse find his lover in other man's hand. This book is full of that. Not of the Big Misunderstandings, but of many actions that are interpreted differently at first, until we get the actual account from the characters themselves.

A year ago, Tom was dumped by his rich boyfriend, Wells. Today, Wells' super rich cousin, Law, asked him if he'd like to attend Wells' wedding- as his date. Looking for a closure (and revenge) Tom

Oh, wow!! I really loved this book! I think this will definately be a book I can reread in the future. It was soooo sweet, sexy, and HOT!!!!! Law was so...so...Ok, I don't know how to describe him! Tom is an extremely lucky man!

For me this encompasses all the worst aspects of old Harlequinns.

There is no romancing, Tom is basically told his place and what he likes, then is hypnotised by the wonder of the Lamborghini Diablo into believing he's in love.

Law. He drives a Lamborghini Diablo you know? Um his mother loves him and he's rich.
For me that's not enough.

The phone just in reach during the date-rape made me cringe, it was mocking and horrid. How he handled the blackmail issue also took away any chance of believing him

Not my cup of tea. This feels like an old Harlequin story that I don't really care about. A brute cold Alpha with a confused young heroine, strike the heroine to another guy. There is one time when I like this kind of cold attitude from the Alpha, but this one is not able to gain some sympathy for me, or make me believe that he has emotion. The ending is kind of nice, but the whole story just leaves me cold.

The basic rich boy/poor boy fairy tale scenario. I loved the humour. Law is a lovable arrogant dictator and Tom is a lovable gullible sweetheart. Wells is the jerk who unwittingly brings them together. I wouldn't of minded seeing him a bit more, he never suffered enough for my liking lol.

A nice sweet story, ideal as a perfect pick me up to counter a deep dark read.

Wow. Law is definitely an alpha male. Practically the Alpha of all alphas. What a lucky boy Tom is.

Admittedly at times the writing came perilously close to purple prose but managed to get the point across without crossing that line.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I really wasn't ready for it to end

This was another re-read for me and I added it to my favorites shelf. It was just so HOT and re-reading it and already knowing the ending (view spoiler) made it even more beautiful and passionate.

Yummy!

I really loved Law and Tom together. Law was really alpha but Tom held his own. I wish the book had been longer. *sigh*

Very sweet story: it's an erotic fairy tale, with a dragon to be slain (view spoiler), a mighty stallion (view spoiler), love at first sight, a false prince, a true prince, and a happy ever after. It has exactly as much character development and relationship to reality as any other fairy tale i.e. none. For some reason I thought it would be darker, I guess because of the Force part of Force of Law, but it's n ...more

A pretty solid effort. The D/s is purely D/s and there is no bondage or other BDSM aspects. I loved Law - He's HOT! Larger than life (in every way LOL) he really comes at you off the pages and twists your heart around, especially when he lets go of the hard outer shell and you get to see the yummy goodness inside.

The sex is hot - nice and squishy just the way I like it. The secondary characters really provided some nice background through which you get to know the characters better. A very nice

I have a somewhat two-minded opinion about Force of Law.

On one hand, it was a light and entertaining enough read--entertaining in the sense that one can't really take it srsly and needs to read and take it as a joke. Needs to take it as a hyperbole...It's a fun parody in a way--even though trying (way) too hard.
This book certainly isn't anything heavy. Is Nothing that requires much attention/concentration. Nothing breath-taking and outstanding that will be remembered forever, but entertaining, n

I had originally read this book in 2010. I adored it then and I still adore it now. I was surprised how much of the story I had forgotten, though. The whole beginning is what stuck in my mind but the ending and how gentle and caring Law gets really surprised me. I liked that Law had so many layers. He was this tough, possessive, alpha male. he's very intimidating but people are drawn to him for his money. By the end, he still manhandles Tom but he's more gentle now and l

This book was a wild ride and I really liked it as a story. There was subterfuge, blackmail, and illegal business dealings.

Law Castille is not only very rich but a very dominant man. He totally overwhelms Tom Russell, a simple mechanic, with his forceful behavior. And that is the only thing I really had trouble with. The first time they have sex, even though consensual (sort of), still feels very close to rape. Law didn't leave Tom any sort of choice, showed no emotions or mercy, not just in tha

This story that accurately captures my philosophy that there things that I like to read in fiction and elements I enjoy in fictional relationships that are absolutely not okay in real life.

In real life I'd be telling Tom to run for the hills from Law. In fic, I'm hoping he runs to him. There's a sex scene that (view spoiler)

I enjoyed the story a lot. Law an

Well damn, isn't Law just about every man (and woman's) dream come true. Definition of alpha male is Law Castille. This story reminds me a little of Pretty Women....minus the prostition and women. Law is a billionaire and Tom is dirt poor. The sex between these two is smokin hot...i don't usually rank and review my books based on sex but holy hell this one was hot.

Fun, quick read, basically a fairy tale masquerading as a contemporary. Cinderella is now an auto mechanic, Prince Charming is a billionaire CEO, and the coach is a Lamborghini Diablo. In other words, pure fluff.

Immediately after I read the review for this book on DearAuthor.com, I made my purchase. While I didn't love it as the reviewer and other readers did, I did enjoy this book.

The writing style of the author did not really work for me. In some cases, it took me a moment to understand what the characters were saying because I was unfamiliar with the way they were using the words such as "bareback" or "being the man". However, I liked the bits of humor interspersed within the story, and have highlig

What a lot of fun this book was! Funny, witty and ridiculously implausible, it’s very evident from start to finish that the author treats the plot and characters with much affection. And it shows.

This is the campy gay version of knight on shining black steed, come to sweep his fair maiden off her feet; only this time it’s brutishly handsome, preposterously wealthy and powerful alpha male capturing the heart and ass of a poor, gamine automechanic who tries with all his might to resist the physic

Law's the kind of romance hero that makes me wriggle deeper in my armchair with a deep breath, knowing I'm in for a great ride (even if in this case, it's Tom who rides the bike.

Law was wonderful to the end, his over-the-top alpha was exactly the escape I needed after a rather horrid week. Tom's nice but not sugary sweet and yes, I liked the wedding scene, too. It's one of those scenes where you know what's going to happen yet that's precisely why one enjoys them.

Holy Hell, what a character in Law!

I labeled this book as a novella because it was less than 100 pages. Even though it was short, the book and the characters were well developed. This book is essentially a contemporary romance, with no plot to be thickened or mysteries to be solved. It's a straight up courtship and it was hot and sweet at the same time.

Tom Russell is an auto mechanic that was dumped by his lover Wells Campbell a year ago, left without a word or backwards glance. While working at the jiffy lube, a nasty Lamborghi

Just gotta love this story.

This is a story about Tom a man who thinks he is gay, has a gay relationship that doesn't work out and trundles along in life getting over his hurt. Then Law, a relative of the person who hurt him, comes back into his life with a bang.

Meet Law, The Real Alpha Man. All other men be they gay, straight or anything else bow before Law. In fact everyone bows before Law: men, women, police, gangster hoodlums, business people, hospital staff even the US Army!!! Never before h
