From the very first hot sentence, to the last page, this book had me hooked. Samson and Delilah (I know *rolls eyes*, just some of the author's warped subtle humor) have sizzling chemistry. This book was a helluva lot of fun. I hate to warn you all because this one was a slow starter and poorly edited, but I have read the next books in the series, and I feel good about recomending this one because both problems are cleared up by subsequent books.

Enjoyable read. I really liked Samson and all of his friends. Interesting plot, some really steamy scenes, and good characters. Would have liked a bit more dialogue and some depth to Delilah. As an accountant, I enjoyed the audit and fraud concepts!

Samson Woodford, vampire bachelor and owner of the Scanguards corp seems to be having more than a little trouble getting it up. No matter how many lovely, not to mention willing vampire ladies he finds, his mini me doesn't seem to want to cooperate at all. At least, not until nine months later when the human female, Delilah tumbles into his arms after an alleged attack. When his shrink suggests he bed her in order to "cure" his problem, Samson indulges himself in the pleasures of Delilah's all too willing body. But when Delilah's attacked once again, Samson must deal with not only trying to hide the fact that he's a vampire, but figuring out why someone would want to harm her.

Okay, first off, the fact that Samson just couldn't get it up was part of the allure that kept me reading this book. I mean, that was just too funny to miss. I couldn't stop laughing, and did we miss the fact that his last name is Woodford? Smh, the irony. LOL All fun aside, I thought this was a very interesting read. Like I stated above, I usually have a problem with Vamp books, but I couldn't seem to make my mind connect Samson with the fanged creatures I've come to resent. He was likable, though I'll be honest I didn't quite fall in love with him. The fact that he was trying to hide that he was a vamp threw me off (always does). I like when a vamp embraces who he is, and isn't afraid to let a woman know what he is, this way it saves him the trouble later of trying to gauge her reaction. It's understandable of course, but I would have rather like to see him right off the bat letting her know.

Delilah was another character I found likable but not lovable to me. I liked that she wanted Samson, and went after him, teasing him in the movie theater and then proceeding to take him later that night. I approve ;) LOL. What I didn't like about her was her reaction when finding out he was a vamp. After letting him fuck her senseless she then proceeds to freak out, which I understand but, really shouldn't she have been worried about sleeping with a complete stranger in the first place? And then her, "I can't resist him despite that he's a vampire because he's so handsome" reactions. Just, wow.. but other than that, I had no problems with her.

The story is fast paced, and revolved around finding out why anyone would want Delilah dead, especially since she knows no one in San Francisco, and their attraction towards each other. We are also introduced to some of the Scanguard Vamps which I found likeable as well, and will love learning more about them in the next installments. The one who broke my heart, Thomas, I hope he gets his HEA, for what he went through, he deserves it.

This is a great read to get to during a few spare hours, if you're a vampire fan, unlike myself, you'll find yourself devouring this book in less time than I did. I definitely recommend this and look forward to more from Tina Folsom's Scanguards ;)

The pacing was excellent as well, I couldn’t put the book down which is always a good sign.

The characters were great. Delilah had this teasing and playful way about her that was so endearing and a great sense of humor too. It was easy to see why Samson fell for her so quickly (outside of the physical reasons anyway). Speaking of which, the descriptions, both of their physical appearances and the actual love-making scenes were done wonderfully. I’m really picky about word usage when it comes to this sort of thing and I thought Folsom did a fantastic job. Anyway, back to the characters. Samson has something that is typical with vampires being as old as they are, that “I’m so deep and I know just how to make you happy because of all my experiences in life” kinda thing, but it worked for this book. He felt like his reactions had purpose and that his desire for Delilah wasn’t just physical, but he legitimately cared about her, and not only did that not seem cliche for him, it seemed as if even he was surprised by it which made it all the more special.

I really enjoyed SLM and I’m thrilled that when I won it (in a box of books giveaway months ago) I received the second and third books as well. Don’t worry, I’m not going to go all “adult romance crazy” on you, but it could be a nice change of pace from all of the YA books that make up so much of my TBR pile. If this is more your type of genre then I would definitely recommend giving Samson’s Lovely Mortal a try.

Wow-- I just now finished this book and I can't believe how much I liked it. I mean I really, really liked it. A total surprise. I think I bought it for like 2.99 on Amz.

First off, let me tell you, I have not found a series that I liked enough to even consider reading #2. I've tried quite a few, too. Furthermore, I am not that into the vampire-lover genre, I have tried them before (yes, I did read Twilight) but never really got into them. First off, let me tell you, I have not found a series that I liked enough to even consider reading #2. I've tried quite a few, too. But for some reason, and I am not quite sure yet why, I was happy with this one.

In the beginning of the book, I wasn't too sure what to make of it. I mean, the two main characters are Samson and--wait for it-- Delilah. Yeah, I know. I was thinking it was going to turn out to be cheesy. But then I started to get the author's tongue-in-cheek kind of humor. Once I crossed over, I was enjoying the book on all levels. The writing is actually really good, and the love scenes are sweet and hot. Nice.

I really liked and connected with the characters. Samson is a total hunkasaurus. Delilah is smart, spunky and her internal dialog isn't annoying-- a problem I have with many of the "fiery" heroines. Why is it so many authors make their strong heroines just plain irritating? Well, Delilah wasn't. I liked her and Samson together. I totally got why she was with him. (Where do I sign up for one of those? hehe) He really is adorable. And did I mention, a total hunkasaurus? Oh yeah, I did.

Even the sidekicks were good. And, now for the even better part: I find out-- AT THE END-- this is the first in a big long series! Yay! The next one is about Samson's buddy Amaury, who I also had a little crush on, and more later with one about Gabriel (he had a very small part but sounds so yummylicious)... and Samson and Delilah make appearances in them too. Cool. Looking forward to them all.

This book are light, fun little romp. A good "break" between the heavier stuff. I am glad to have found this author and hope to read more of her books. Hopefully they are as enjoyable as this one.(less)

I actually came across this book purely by chance. I was somewhere without my kindle or physical books (I know, the horror!) and only had my phone, so being me, I went to Amazon to look for freebies to pass the time (as if I don’t already have enough books on my Kindle app, but I just wanted something new). Then I saw this and just had to get it as soon as I saw the cover.

This turned out to be a very delightful and light-hearted read that had me laughing out loud at times at some of the ridicul...more I actually came across this book purely by chance. I was somewhere without my kindle or physical books (I know, the horror!) and only had my phone, so being me, I went to Amazon to look for freebies to pass the time (as if I don’t already have enough books on my Kindle app, but I just wanted something new). Then I saw this and just had to get it as soon as I saw the cover.

This turned out to be a very delightful and light-hearted read that had me laughing out loud at times at some of the ridiculous things that happened. First, there’re no new twists to Ms. Folsom’s vampires. In fact, they’re just the vampires from legends: drink blood, mind control, super speed, can’t be in the sun, and no reflection. Strangely, this is actually REFRESHING! I’m a little bit tired of all the new vampire lores. Hopefully I’m not the only one who rolls her eyes at that section of book where the vampire hero disabuses the naïve heroine of her old notions about his species. Let’s just go back to our regular old vamps, OK?

After a painful breakup, Samson has some major performance problems (he can’t get it up lol). That’s a pretty big deal for a vampire. After months of going to therapy and looking for solutions, Delilah shows up at his door, and all of the sudden his problem goes away. He has no problem getting it up when he’s with Delilah. So with all intents and purposes, he goes after Delilah to solve his problem, never imagining that he’d want more than a one night stand with the mortal.

I loved reading about Samson and Delilah together (but the names, seriously?). They’re a fun and adorable couple. It just makes me happy to see them together when they’re being playful, even in bed. Ms. Folsom also writes some very hot and steamy smexy scenes. No wonder Samson’s worried about his problem. It’s a loss to the female population! Anyway, that’s not to say Samson and Delilah don’t have their own problems. Samson, after his breakup, has some trust issues, wondering if Delilah is only with him for his money. Delilah, on the other hand, has some childhood issues that she needed to resolve.

With that said, reading about Delilah gave me whiplash at times. At first, she seems kind of shy and keeps to herself. Then when she’s with Samson, she suddenly turns into a seductress like she’s an experienced pro or something. But the worst case of her personality change came when she started having a catfight with another female. She’s suddenly throwing out all sorts of curse words and insults that’s so unlike her. Sometimes the sudden personality change in dialogue definitely jarred me out of the story.

One last complaint is more of a personal rant. When Delilah learns that Samson’s a vampire, she goes through the obligatory disbelief period. I hate when that happens in PNR. Where’s the heroine that’s ecstatic to learn that vampires exist? Seriously, has she not read any paranormal romance? If my lover suddenly tells me he’s a vampire, I’d jump his bones instantly! I definitely will not run away from him just because he’s a vampire, or do any of the silly things these heroines tend to do. (Uh hopefully this doesn’t get me killed though).

Anyway, all complaints aside, I had a lot of fun reading this one. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. Any lover of paranormal romance with vampires and steamy sex scenes should give this one a try.

Sure, I'd read the Twilight series along with just about every other avid reader in the world (and still hate the way it ended to this day!), but I've had no desire to seek out more books about vampires. I saw the ratings for this book and threw caution to the wind, knowing I wouldn't feel compelled to finish it if I hated it since it was free. I'm so glad I did!! I couldn't put it down!! Oh, and have some tissue ready for around the end. I sobbed like a baby. Anybody who has unresolved issues with somebody they will never be able to work it out with (in this case, an Alzheimer's patient) will have a hard time not tearing up while reading one particular scene.

What I wish somebody had told me beforehand so that I WOULDN'T have avoided this sub-genre is that it's done a lot like the Twilight books in that not all vampires are out to drink the blood of innocent people or turn everybody into vampires. There are good vampires and bad vampires. I won't say more because part of the fun of the book was NOT knowing what the "rules" are. You, the reader, learn them as our heroine does. The occasional blood-sucking going on still made me feel a bit sick, but it never felt like a work of horror.

The author did a fantastic job with this story. Loved it!! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the way Ms. Folsom switched POVs during the scenes. It might not bother others and it may very well have been one of the reasons I loved this story so much, the way I knew what was going on so well in each of their heads. It's just that I found it a bit jarring, sort of like be jerked around from one person's head to the next real fast, all in one scene. I think I'm going to seek out the next in the series and I might not find the bouncing around so annoying once I get Ms. Folsom's writing style under my belt a bit more.(less)

Den weiblichen Hauptpart nimmt die Buchprüferin Delilah ein und auch wenn ihr Zusammentreffen mit Samson alles andere als glücklich ist wird doch hier schnell klar, dass sie eine außergewöhnliche Wirklung auf diesen Vampir hat. Und so soll sie ihn kurrieren, wird aber schließlich zu seiner "Sucht". Wobei er sich dieser doch schließlich mehr als freiwillig hingibt und wer würde das auch nicht.

Natürlich kommen die beiden nicht ganz ohne Probleme aus. So steht Gefahr und Verrat zwar ebenfalls mit auf Liste der Dinge, die diesen Roman ausmachen, trotzdem überwiegt die erotische Leidenschaft. Ich muss zugeben, dass ich mir etwas unschlüssig bin, was ich von den Szenen halten soll, denn manchmal fallen auch recht "vulgäre" ausdrücke für Handlungen und Geschlechtsteile, welche meiner Meinung nach total unpassend an Ort und Stelle sind. Meist brachten sie mich zum lachen, da sie dermaßen unpassend positioniert mich doch mehrmals aus meiner vertieftheit rissen. Aber, nun, das ist nehme ich an schlicht eine Sache des Geschmacks.

Dass viele Charaktere hier Vampire sind, habe ich als Leser beizeiten fast vergessen. Lediglich erwähnungen von Blut-trinken oder ein-/zweimal das Aufblitzen von Fangzähnen und roten Augen wegen Besitzansprüchen oder größter Leidenschaft ließen mich den Gedanken zurück zu den Vampiren bringen. Samson hätte also meiner Meinung nach ebenso ein "normaler" Mann sein können. Und auch die Leidenschaft lässt mich eher schlicht an "roh" und "männlich" denken als an "vampirisch" und "animalisch", was doch eine recht charakterliche Eigenschaft ist.

Alles in allem bin ich wirklich sehr positiv überrascht. Wer also keine scheu vor etwas mehr erotischer Leidenschaft hat und auch Sexszenen nicht scheut ist hier genau richtig. Doch vor allem charakterisiert dieser Roman - so finde ich - zwei Charaktere, die niemals miteinender gerechnet hätten und schon gar nicht mit einer solchen Gefühlsgewalt. Und auch Vertrauen ist ein sehr wichtiger Punkt, der hier gleichermaßen vom männlichen und weiblichen Part ausgeht. Und allem voran: Wenn aus "Sex" "Liebe machen" wird.

Enter Delilah. (Of course her name is Delilah, right?) After an attack lands Delilah on his doorstep, Samson discovers that there isn't anything wrong with his equipment after all. In fact, it's working just fine. Better than fine. And when his shrink tells him to go for it, Samson and Delilah begin dating - and then some. Cue sexytimes.

What saves the story is that it isn't just sex between Samson and his lovely mortal. Samson's a decent dude, and he initially has some qualms about leaping into bed with Delilah, an auditor from New York. He goes out of his way to help her in SF, especially when it becomes clear that she is still in serious danger. She gets his protective nature going, along with his sexual one. Their bedroom time is actually pretty heavy on the romance - to the point of being cheesy, at times. And Samson likes that Delilah is a smartypants, something that apparently turned off most other guys she met.

But they can't have their HEA right away, can they? Samson has trust issues, and his ex is still lurking about. Delilah is working on something big, and Samson's friends are starting to get suspicious. Then a dead body turns up, and Samson gets all his buddies on the case. On top of all of that, Samson is falling for Delilah, the only woman he feels attracted to now. But he's a vampire and she's a human - and of course she thinks he's a human, too. Drama!

This is one of the first free ebooks I downloaded onto my kindle from Amazon. While I would classify it more as erotica, it does have all of the elements of a fully rounded romance novel. Yes, there are a lot of sex scenes, but there IS a plot, and the sex fits into it. There are also secondary characters, world-building, conflict and intrigue, and the development of a real relationship that leads to a HEA.

On the other hand, the romance between Samson and Delilah was sometimes TOO sweet. There are a couple sex scenes that are likely to give you a toothache. I felt like the characters took too long to reveal all the information, and even longer to put it all together. It could have moved a little more quickly. Delilah's character seemed inconsistent at times, but you could attribute that to her seeming different from Samson's perspective. I had a few other issues with the writing, but for the most part I enjoyed it.

There are some free kindle downloads that are so awful, they're not even worth the time it takes to read them. This is on the higher end of the freebies, in terms of plot and writing style, and was well worth the read. I'll definitely read the next in the series (which was also free recently).(less)

Samson is a man who seems to have it all, wealth and all it's trimmings, good looks and mortality as he is a vampire.
