This little-known classic by the late Marion Zimmer Bradley is a wonderful treat for readers feeling the loss of this marvelous author. Part of Bradley's beloved "Light" series, Witch Hill is a sensuous story of witchcraft, demonic possession, and true love.

It's a decent book, but I'm getting really annoyed with the very inaccurate representation of witchcraft. I am surprised by that after reading some of her other books.

Sorry, but just dreadful. It was liking reading a porno script with some witchcraft thrown in - eew! There were a lot of parts where I was quite confused and looking at some of the other reviews, that may have been because this was the third book in a series (which I didn't realize). Maybe that is why a lot of the dialogue was vague to me and seemed to elude to things the reader should already have known. I have had The Mists of Avalon on my to-read list for a long time, so am hoping when I get...more

Where to begin with this book? I grabbed it not knowing much about it, other than it was about witches. So I decided to give it a try. It was an easy read and I was incredibly curious about how it was going to end.
It started with some action but right away it jumps into a sex scene that left me thinking "wow that escalated quickly". Also the main character Sara fell in love almost immediately with one of the other chracters and that was quite unbelievable, but I accepted it.
Something that I real...more

I loved this book!

Some might not know that this story is a tribute to the great fantasy writer H. P. Lovecraft, so it may sound confusing and disturbing at some points, because those are marks of Lovecraft's imaginary worlds. In combination with some erotism from Bradley, makes this a must read to all Marion Z. Bradley's fans and to all Lovecraft's fans as well!

This is the 3rd book in the series Occult Tales. I never knew that. A friend borrowed it to me and I don't think she knew either. Anyway it definitely didn't amazed me but then again there was a lot I didn't understand. It actually makes sense now that I know that little bit of info.

So, the description of the house was very intriguing. I got hooked pretty quick. The amount of sex was a little bit uncomfortable, but it was overall a pretty good book.

I very quick read (even for me :)

a little over the top for me... Goes well beyond her other books that I've read (ghostlight, heartlight, inheritor) with self-destructive tendencies of the main character - though he was well developed!

Another good read in this series of MZB's that might not be as well known as the Avalon and Darkover series, but you still see the great imagination this lady had!

Quando a autora cativa... não consigo parar de ler... este foi o caso :)
O livro apenas durou umas horas.

I forced nay way through it just to see what would happen but ugh - cheesy writing, the "voice" of the character Sarah does not match her age (early 20's)or the time (1970's) - the dialogue was far too formal and just overall the language was wrong.
The soft porn was a bit of suprise - no clue to that in the bookcover.
Not for me I guess.

Witch Hill is a cult book about an art student who loses her family. Set in the 1970's Sarah leaves the city to live in an inherited house on witch hill. There she learns about the secret cult of her heritage, Sarah is born from a line of witches. A pagan church tries to win her over in order to rebirth her dead aunt, thought to be reborn every century.
To my surprise, I loved this book. I have read it many times, when I need something to read I grab this one.

I must warn you though, the story is...more

I loved this book!

I didn't like the vision it gives about Witchcraft but I liked the fact that Marion did difference Wicca (and Paganism) from the Witchcraft portraited in this book!

The story, the love, the rituals and the intensity of what Sara lives is given to us by the marvelous writing of our dear Marion Zimmer Bradley.

The female main character, as usual in Marion's books, is strong and determined which is something I loved.

This is a book I recommend to all Marion Z. Bradley's fans!

MZB has several witch books. This one is particularly more darkly sexy than usual, but otherwise could be switched out with one of her other witchy books. It could be good fodder for bedroom fantasy, and that's why I liked it some. It seemed to begin with some good old New England satanic witch lore, but didn't go as deeply into that as the promising beginning. Established author calling it in, I suppose. Why not put in a few more sexy scenes and market it as erotica, I would ask.

Not one of her best novels. It reads like she wrote it in a hurry. Pity!

Wow. Well, this was NOT "The Mists of Avalon", for certain; As this was only my second read of this author, the first now one of my most favorite fiction reads, I was extremely disappointed by this tale - the best I can say about it, is it was short enough to waste only one day reading it.

("Witches can't love.
I love Brian.
Therefore, I'm not a witch."

Oh....gimme a BREAK!)

Sarah
total crap
Melissa
Wow, what a disappointment. You would think that after writing the Mists of Avalon she could turn out a better shorts story. What awful crap. It belongs in the bad romance novel section of the checkout line in a Pathmark!
Susan
the third book with Colin and Claire (after Dark Satanic & Inheritor)

weird -- I think if it were re-written it would be so much better, but it's OK
Kalyn
One of the more Rosemary's Baby-esque stories. It reminds me a lot of another tale, but I can't quite think of which.
