Power Thoughts: 12 Strategies to Win the Battle of the Mind
by
Joyce Meyer
Joyce Meyer has a knack for coining phrases-her fans call them
Joyceisms
-and one of her best loved is "Where the mind goes, the man follows." This was the basis for Battlefield of the Mind, and in her latest book, Meyer provides "power thoughts," bringing the reader to a new level of ability to use the mind as a tool to achievement.

Power Thoughts is divided into two parts, the first contains four chapters and the second twelve chapters. In part one Joyce outlines why she thinks that positive thinking is a vital component of living a happy, successful life. Part two contains Meyer’s twelve-step program for changing destructive thought patterns. Each chapter in part two begins with a Power Thought and a Bible verse and concludes with a “Power Pack” of Bible verses designed to help the reader implement the principles taught i...more
Friends and readers, thoughts are powerful and Joyce puts it to the test with "Power Thoughts: 12 Strategies to Win the Battle of the Mind." Nobody would know more about how to win that than Joyce with her beauty for ashes bio of her life story of overcoming many obstacles.
This book gives 12 essential strategies to win over those battles of the mind that we all have from time to time. This is a very interesting book that's at a pace to make you read, stop, think, and write. This is a great formu...more

Being a student of the topic of the "positive thinking" genre, I can't say that Joyce Meyer brings much new to the table in her initial chapters. If a reader doesn't understand the merits of positive thinking to improve their life and chances of succeeding - I would encourage them to look to other texts. However, the author hits her stride when she speaks about why a person has good cause to think positive with the context of her suggestions using Biblical teachings. I would classify this book m...more
Some, or most of it was good but also overwhelming, which in turn made me feel inadequate and somewhat discouraged. If I were able to accomplish all that were in this book I'd be a perfect person. I'm FAR from perfect and this book sort of high-lighted that for me. Also, I think Joyce tends to put words in God's mouth. I'm sure she's off the mark on some things-- such as her belief that if we are good with God, we will have everything we need materially. uhhhmmm..nah, I don't buy that. She seems...more
This book was encouraging. It has helped me reevaluate my thinking. I disagree with her presentation of prosperity. I feel God calls us to trust in him for what we need and them to be content, but that we should ultimately focus on heavenly things.
Her intent is good, but the theology seems a bit shallow.

Parts of the book made me overwhelmed because of all the 'work' she was asking us to do. My brain can only handle so much, 'thinking'.
Surprisingly, my fav part of one of the chapters was on nagging. I hadn't realized how negative reminders & requests that we ask of others can be so demanding. I like how she said to use the strategy of positive talk and cheerfulness when asking someone to do something. How simple!

Joyce Meyer has put together a program using twelve steps to win the battle of the mind. Each step is described and explained, then followed up with questions to aid the reader in applying the principles taught. Joyce uses principles taught in scripture as a basis for her concepts and to aid the reader in using faith in the word of God to stand firm on winning the war that wages in one’s mind.

i liked this one a lot, and i haven't always been a joyce meyer fan. Meyer provides good, practical suggestions for replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, using Scripture to claim (internally and out loud) that we're more than conquerors through Christ. She's challenging me to stop and realize what i'm saying with statements like, "i'll never get through this." Instead, I'm practicing saying, "I walk in faith. I speak faith. I trust God." Power thinking isn't just some spacey, New-Age m...more
I really am enjoying this book. So far it has helped me remind myself to constantly think positively
and reminds me not to be so hard on myself when I realize I'm focusing on the negatives. It teaches you to fill my mind with positive thoughts and win the battle over worry.
It also contains very simple and short exercises that help you really think through the points in the book and help you apply it to your own situation.

Power Thoughts by Joyce Meyer is a follow-up of sorts to her previous book Battlefield of the Mind. This book takes the principles uncovered in Battlefield of the Mind a step further, providing a guideline for practical application of these principles to “renew your mind” and train your thoughts to fall into line with the Word of God. Joyce Meyer details twelve steps, or thoughts, to meditate on, along with scripture to focus on in the process of retraining your mind to turn from a vicious cycle...more

My husband and I listened to this on a recent road trip. This is the Joyce Meyer version of the "Power of Positive Thinking". Although I do not agree with Ms. Meyer on many issues, I find her advice on issues related to self discipline, emotional management, and positive thinking to be excellent. The information presented here is not new, but Ms. Meyer's approach is very down to earth and easily understood. I think she reaches a wide audience, and many who might not read other authors. And by li...more
I found this book extremely helpful. I enjoy most all of Joyce Meyer's books. This one has a great outline of how to train yourself to be a positive person and putting God first in all your decisions. She is great at organizing thoughts and plans of action. Who doesn't want to be a positive person all the time instead of slipping back into the same old patterns most people tend to do? I have her list of 12 power thoughts posted where I can read them daily.
PHENOMENAL!!!! What an amazing book to learn how to have complete control over your thoughts and not give into the negative thoughts controlling you. God teaches you to turn to Him and learn to be what He made you to be IN Him.
I didn't read her first book. . .Battelfield of the mind, but I have just purchased it to start from the beginning and come back to this book again.
Definately a book everyone should read!!

My personal opinion is that Joyce makes a lot of sense through out most of her book. one example is on the chapter of emotional stability when she says we should control our emotions or they control us. (175-178). Joyce went on to say this is how we find contentment. The only problem I really had with this book was when I lost train of thought thinking that if I invited Joyce to my wedding I wouldn't be able to place her next to my Muslim uncle.
Meyer provides "power thoughts," bringing the reader to a new level of ability to use the mind as a tool for achievement. She outlines a flexible program to turn thoughts into habits, and habits into success.

An amazing book so far. Thru ch.1 it's very much like most things that I've read so far on positive thinking ie "power of positive thinking". However it's never too much and reminders are great for us especially in this economy of keeping our mind clear and spirits high. Looking forward to Ch.2

This is one of the best books I read, very informative and biblical. Joyce Meyer is one of my favorite speakers, and I try to watch her as much as I can. I love the way she presents the word of God,she does it with truth and power. Also there are many things in this book that Christians can apply to their life;such as learning to to easily offended ( one of my favorite points), showing love, and learning to worship of worrying. I would highly recommended this book to any believer or unbeliever t...more
I think many people don't understand the real value of this book and it is a shame. This book is about how God wants us to think positive about our lives even if things are not going the way we want them to. God did not promise us that we wouldn't have sorrow or pain, but if we trust Him we can get through anything. Her book emphasizes that and provides insight for people struggling to deal with life's issues. She mentions prosperity as God wanting us to get the most out of life but many times w...more
I've taken a long time to work my way, prayerfully, through this book. After studying & teaching "The Battle of the Mind" a couple times, I looked forward to seeing what more Joyce had to offer as to practically working at changing my mind to agree with God & His Word. Thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of "think about it" questions and not just to read the book mindlessly. Taking this journey of self-discovery seriously has helped me to focus on the area/s I really need to rethink and wor...more
I am in the process of reading this book but so far it one of the best self-help books I have come across. It is very informative and biblically based. It has reinforced my thought process that positive thinking is the only way to life a fuller, more satisfying and healthier life. I can’t wait to finish Power Thoughts and I intend to read it over and over again just as we do the Bible. I wish everyone would read this book.
Please read this book. It should be a prerequisite read for adulthood. Many people including myself would've greatly benefited from this even as a teenager but esp as a young adult. But it's never too late!!! This was my first JM book to read. I'm ordering more tonight; it was that great! I'm not one for "self help" books and the title seemed cheesy to me. I had a friend strongly recommend it to me so I ordered it. This was a great book!! Read it slowly and ponder what she's saying. Absorb the s...more
