I Took My Frog to the Library
When Bridgett brings her pets to the library, the hyena laughs so loudly nobody can hear the story, the giraffe tries to read over everybody's shoulder, and the frog jumps onto the checkout desk, scaring the librarian. But it's the well-behaved elephant who causes the biggest problems of all! Full-color throughout.

I think it's FANTASTIC that all of Bridgett's animals wanted to go to the library. It's a shame that they caused so many problems. I mean, really, how much more disgusting is it that a python shed her skin than it is to that a four-year-old got boogers on the books? I think the python should have been allowed to stay, but whatever.
I loved the way the pictures were drawn. I also reall liked (as strange as this seems) that the majority of the words were on the same side of the book. It's kinda har...more

A wonderful, comic picture book about a kid bringing all her "pets" (from a frog to an elephant) into the library.
I skipped a few pages while reading htis aloud, because the book is sadly outdated in a few aspects (I didn't want to explain the concept of a card catalogue to three-year-olds), but my audience laughed outloud at the animals doing all the things the kids aren't allowed to do in the library themselves. Overall, this is still a great addition to any program/lesson meant to teach young...more

There's not a whole lot to this simple story of a girl who brings different animals with her each time she visits the library. Each animals creates a problem. The frog jumps on the circ desk and scares the librarian. The giraffe tries to read over everyone's shoulder. The hyena laughs too loudly at story time. Young kids think it's funny, so it's a decent beginning-of-the-year-intro-to-the-library book. Not the best, but decent, and I pair it with the much better Library Lion by Knudsen for a fu...more
Everytime Bridgett pays a visit to the library, there is caos. Could it be a giraffe sneeking a peek over the kids shoulders? Or maybe a snake molting its skin on books! When Bridgett decides to bring her animals to the library, it seems there is simply no way that they will be able to enjoy reading. The hyena is too loud, the elephant too big, adn the snake too messy!! Fortunately however, for the librarian and for Bridgett however, she will find the perfect solution for her animal readers.
I thought that this book was adorable! I think that it is wonderful to add a humorous and positive view of the library for kids. All of the different animals are fun to read about. I can see how this could be a fun book to read aloud in a class and really dramatize. As a teacher you could act out the animals and play into the characters. By acting out the characters and making it seem even more insane, the kids will be able to fully engage, even the ones who don't like to read.
Now did she really think it would be a good idea to take her frog, hen, pelican, python, giraffe, or hyena to the library? They each cause their own unique catastrophe. But when she brings her pet elephant to the library, the elephant's manner almost makes up for the destruction caused by her massive size. What's an elephant to do? Why, start her very own storytime, of course!

A little girl take her animals to the library with her but they arent welcome because they become to much of a destraction. She brings her snake, frog, giraff and even an elephant woth her. I would use this book as a writing prompt. The students can write about animals they would want to bring top the library if they had the chance and what kind of damage they would do to the library.
I would have rated this four stars, but it was a little outdated with mention of the card catalog and for the fact it did not include modern details such as computers and online catalogs. It is a cute story and an updated version would be a great way to introduce the elements of the library during a library orientation.
This is a great book for new readers and children who are being introduced to going to the library. It shows different characters and behaviors that are acceptable and unacceptable in the library. It makes visiting the library like a great, fun, and exciting activity. It also makes reading look fun!
I enjoyed the various animals in the library and the chaos they created. The pictures were humorous. And the ending was great. So when I learned that we had flannel board cut-outs for the story, how could I pass it up?
3/18/10 The felt board with this story made it go along well and both groups definitely enjoyed.
3/25/10 This worked well with the smaller groups that are typical to downtown, especially the Thursday group when I was able to have the children put up the felt pieces themselves.
