From "The Crystal Egg": There was, until a year ago, a little and very grimy-looking shop near Seven Dials over which, in weather-worn yellow lettering, the name of "C. Cave, Naturalist and Dealer in Antiquities," was inscribed. The contents of its window were curiously variegated. They comprised some elephant tusks and an imperfect set of chessmen, beads and weapons, a bo...more

This was enjoyable short read! Not the finish that I had expected. The only other telling of this story that I knew was on the old TV anthology series Tales of Tomorrow. Wells' original was much different and equally as interesting.

i read this solely because it was mentioned in "league of extraordinary gentlemen". the action was good, but the writing tended to get a bit too philosophical for my taste.

Quite an entertaining short sci/fi. When the mystery of the crystal egg is finally revealed it rises even more questions.
