The title and the Civil War genre first attracted my attention to Long Hard Ride by Keta Diablo [Decadent Publishing, 2010] and as an in-the-saddle story it delivers quite well. However, it is more of a period story, as apposed to historical fiction, for the American Civil War is merely a backdrop. Nonetheless, I will quickly add there is nothing wrong with this except the tag.
The crux of the story is that Marx Wellbourne is being held in...more

This is an action-packed erotic MM romance that has a unique setting of the American Civil War. I thought the author did a good job of developing an erotic romance with the backdrop of the dangerous War. She included descriptive details of the War (though I'm not expert) and gave good character motivations. Yes, this is an erotic romance so expect some raw sexuality but this isn't ONLY about sex as some reviewers suggest. Given the perimeters of the men's quest, it makes sense their relationship...more
This didn't gel with me at all. I thought the characters were poorly drawn, neither Gray or Marx ever really come to life. They're two dimensional and only exist as toys for the author to play with. The book is billed as an historical, but is really just a sex story that uses the American Civil War as a backdrop. There is no rich historical detail, no sense of the magnitude and tragedy of this terrible conflict. It will appeal to readers who think over the top sex scenes make for a good read and...more
You get the gist and purpose of the entire book from this frenzied line: “I have more for you.” Gray leaned over and bit into his neck and fucked and fucked. Then fucked him some more.”
I gave up on this book in the end. As a famous Southern Gentleman once said: ‘Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.’ I couldn’t warm to the characters, I found the sex scenes to be rabidly vulgar rather than erotic and there was no real attempt to illuminate the period in which the book is supposedly set. The who...more
