Shortly before 8 a.m. on 16 March 1968, C-Company, First Battalion, Twentieth Infantry, Eleventh Brigade, Americal Division, on a search-and-destroy mission in Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam, entered the small hamlet of My Lai.

I had in mind to read a more broad history of the Vietnam war, and this isn't it. It does give a chilling and interesting perspective on the war crimes committed by U.S. troops, and the political and strategic decisions that can help explain this descent. It is extremely well researched. If I had a better broad understanding of the conflict, I could perhaps appreciate it even more. It is - in any case - an excellent study if you are interested in war, strategy and the human psychology.
