Let me just say that you,Ms Kenyon, are too good to be true. Please forgive me for having thought that you would not be able to surprise me after writing the dark hunter series. I apologize for having believed, even for a second, I would not like this series. There were some reviews that were not good so I thought this series would disappoint me, but boy was I wrong...

This book was amazing. I enjoyed every page of it. Maybe the reason for why many didn't like it More...

3.5 stars. Overall a light and quirky paranormal filled with Merlins, Gargolyes, time travel and good vs. evil. An ejoyable read. (Don't expect anything similar to her Dark Hunter series that she writes as Sherrilyn Kenyon. This is much lighter, and almost fairytale like.)

Words that come to mind are; luscious, yummy, delicious, well you get the idea. This book is unlike anything I've read before and that was certainly part of it's appeal. Apart, from the one of the best hero's I've ever read about in quite some time.

The story is set in mythological Camelot and the King is Karrigan who is a very tortured soul, he lives a miserable existence alone in his hell. Along comes Serena an innocent girl who slowly breaks down the ice that surrounds him. It is a More...

You can always count on Sherrilyn Kenyon (writing this time as Kinley MacGregor) to create a totally yummy hero. And Kerrigan is definitely that! This is the first novel in the “Lords of Avalon” series, and I have to say I enjoyed her other historical series more (“Brotherhood of the Sword”).

This one had time travel in it, and that was the main reason it didn’t work for me…it was just too distracting. Some characters had traveled to our time, and others hadn’t. So you had some More...

Sword of Darkness was OK. Seren was wholesomely good, but, thankfully, I didn't find her annoying. I actually really liked her. She had a spine and stood up for what she believed in. Kerrigan was supposed to be the Big Bad, but he wasn't. We were told he did all of these horrible things, had no compassion, blah, blah, blah, but he was a big softy where Seren was concerned and it was a bit disappointing. The plot was decent, but the story dragged in places. I kept me interested enough to want to r More...

A new twist to an old tale.
We all know that the battle between good and evil ended on the fields of Camlan, where King Arthur Pendragon was wounded by his son Mordred. We know that both are waiting to meet again and make clear once and for all who wins this century old battle. But what happened after that? What happened after the isle of Avalon disappeared in the mists, what happened after Lancelot betrayed his king and friend?
The Author Kinley MacGregor answers this question in a w More...

Simple, sort of interesting, but not recommended. It felt like a cinderella-type fairy tale.

Downtrodden peasant girl is taken by a prince of darkness, but he turns into a prince of goodness due to her influence. In the beginning, she stood up to him, did not fear him, this intriqued him, and he then fell for her. Their falling for each other seemed a little too quick and unexplained for me. I also did not like the many references to 20th century living. This story takes place in More...

So, I haven’t decided if I only liked this book a little bit, or if the 17 hours of straight reading…with 8 more to go has hindered my ability to actually enjoy anything I read at this point. Oh well, I am going with it. I think this book was just ok, I finished it, which is more than I can say about the last pseudo-Arthurian legend book I have read lately (see Lucan) , so that is a step up. I liked how strong Seren is in this book, just doing what needed to be done when it needed to be done. I More...

Hysterical! The parley between Kerrigan and Garafyn will make you wet your britches!!! Being in Camelot times and speaking like present day is truly a form Kenyon/MacGregor has honed. Whatever you do don't be drinking or eating while reading this part, you will not hold your tongue!

Here is a taste of that parley:

Garafyn: "We screw this up and the bitch of the damned is going to turn me into a countertop."

Kerrigan: "We don't have countertops More...

This is the second in the Lords of Avalon series. A fabulous series, inspired by the Arthurian legend. The world building is great with the author's version of Avalon and Camelot. The main villain in this book and in the series is the Arthurian evil witch, Morgan. The hero and pendragon in Sword of Darkness is Kerrigan, a hot, handsome, big time bad boy, the king of Morgan's Camelot. He is also the Merlin for the sacred relic, the sword, Caliburn. The heroine, Seren is a weaver, a peasant, who i More...

Interesting. Not interesting, as in fascinating. Interesting, as in whatever! This series tells the tale post-Arthurian legend and combines races of being Kenyon often uses in her Dark Hunter series. There's a hint of time travel in order to justify the use of modern phrases in medieval times. Kenyon's stories are mostly paranormal so time travel should be expected to a degree, but I felt this book would have been much better served by leaving out the time travel and modern slang and if she stuc More...

First off I'm sure I've said this before but I Love the way Sherrilyn writes. She always creates colorful characters that you come to love or love to hate. Sword of Darkness is the first in a new series by Kinley MacGregor (Sherrilyn Kenyon) called the Lords of Avalon. The story is set in mythological Camelot. It's filled with Merlins, Gargoyles, time travel and good vs. evil. Not to mention delicious hero (Karrigan) poor tortured soul and of course the brave spunky innocent girl who melts the More...

Sword of Darkness is something I've read previously in the past and really enjoyed it and decided I wanted an actually copy of the book, instead of an ebook. The first time I read Sword of Darkness I gave it four stars this time it only get's 3.5 as I still enjoyed it but I wasn't wowed by it like I was the first time I still really loved Kerrigan and Seren, I think they're truly great characters and I really enjoyed the twist with the story of Arthur and Morgan le Fey but i More...

Whether writing as Sherrilyn Kenyon or Kinley MacGregor, this author knows how to give us amazing characters who are people we love – or love to hate – and worlds unlike any others. Sword of Darkness, the first book in the Lords of Avalon series, is a tale centered on the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and is no exception.

There are so many things to love about this book, but standing out most of all is the hero! Kerrigan was incredibly tortured, scar More...

This was my first Sherrilyn Kenyon book. I actually picked this book up at Comic Con in Feb. and then later realized that she would be signing books at one of the lanes i was in charge of in the autographing area. It wasn't until i saw and talked to some of her really nice and devoted fans in the enormous line that i was like WOW! who is this author? why are all these people going crazy and I must check her stuff out! Very nice lady by the way, she actually takes the time to talk to her fans. More...

I agree, Trina, that she did spend a lot of time on background info, but I believe it was necessary. I don't think the second book (which will be out in November 2006) will have as much, considering how much Sword of Darkness gave us about the past. She might recap, but not full out.

I adore Sherrilyn, love her writing style. She creates colourful characters that you love to love and love to hate. As any of the best authors that I love, she makes me laugh, cry, and get right down pis More...

Ugh, unfortunately this book incorporates some of my biggest pet peeves.

Lets start with the first problem. If you read the description of the book it says that it's a Arthurian Legend: knights, helpless maidens & magical destinies. Ok, sounds good. I start to read it and oh, well looks like it's really part fantasy romance and part urban fantasy. There's a whole slew of these characters that can travel by popping in and out of existence, can heal any wound and they can go forward an More...

I was abit put off about reading the book before I began reading it because I have very limited liking of historical romance.

However, I am soooo glad I read this book!! It was fantastic. The time travel into the 20th century was such a great idea. It mixed a little modern with historic (Which I must say made it easier for me to like)

I Adored Kerrigan. I haven't come across many Evil gone good characters in my reading so it was something fresh for me.

Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor has a cool concept: King Arthur’s round table with an evil twist, amulets allowing time travel, dragons, gargoyles…It’s about the fate of a Merlin’s mother through a journey of enslavement and a romantic relationship with her captor, the dark King of Camelot. I enjoyed the surprises from beginning to end. Sherrilyn Kenyon (aka Kinley MacGregor) writes novels that are either a hit or a miss for me, and this one found the target.

I'm just glad I got the book for free. It provided quite a bit of entertainment. Not sure whether my favorite part was the fact that these people can inexplicably time travel, but only as far as the late 20th century (they love their INXS cds, btw), or the fact that our heroine rapidly falls in love with a man who threatens to rape her if she won't go to sleep and then magically knocks her unconscious.
Wait, that second bit was the part I hated.

Damn!

I'm beginning to wonder if it is even possible for Sherrilyn Kenyon (AKA Kinley MacGregor) to ever write a book or plot concept that doesn't work or kick major ass!

Taking the old Camelot story and reworking it to fit not only an historical setting, but combining a paranormal feel to the book as well makes this introductory book to the Lords of Avalon series excessively interesting.

I LOVE how Sherri takes the idea of an antagonist, which is technically th More...

You've heard of Camelot, but have you ever heard of a dark Camelot overrun by Morgen le Fey and her evil minions? You will if you read this. I thought this was a really cute story. I know cute is not the word the author was aiming for, but it's what I've got. I mean, Morgen le Fey dancing around incessantly to INXS? What's not to love. :) I found the tale enjoyable and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. The Camelot saga has been a given a Kenyon twist that I guarantee you will love.

I am completely in love with Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. This book is not a part of that series but the new characters and world building are just as enjoyable, and I can't wait to read the next in this series.

Great book ... usual Sherrilyn kenyon stuff.

Though i don't think she has done a great job about explaining stuff in terms of technicalities of realms, how many and time travel (as well as she has in the dark hunter series). May be she has gotten sooo used to writing the other books that she kinda feels like shes already into the story ....
