I couldn't wait to finish this book... but for all the wrong reasons. Even a 2 star rating seems generous.
Back in 2002, when this book first came out, it was probably fresh and exciting. But from then on a lot has evolved in UF/PNR-land and I think I've been 'spoiled' with good quality writing.
The writing was extremely simplistic, repetitive and annoying. The POV changing wasn't done well at all. The story was (I know: even for a PNR about a 2000 year old Spartan demi God) More...

Fantasy Lover is the first full-length novel by Sherrilyn Kenyon that I have read, and I absolutely loved it. It was packed with thoroughly romantic moments and beautiful sensuality that was sheer perfection for me, and that was even without the hero and heroine actually having sex until the very end of the book. I consider myself to be a very girly girl, and I find that Ms. Kenyon's writing style has a very feminine quality that is very appealing to me. I like the balance that she finds between

Fantasy Lover is a book rooted solidly in ancient Greek history. I quote:
Blessed by Aphrodite's divine touch, he [Julian of Macedon:] grew into such a man that no woman could deny him her body. For when it came to the Art of Love, he knew no equal -- his stamina far beyond that of any mere mortal man. His desires hot and wild, he could never be tamed.
Who knew mythology could be sohot interesting? I especially appreciated the capitalization used for emphasis in "the Art of Love

This was my first book by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I've read (and liked) some of the books she wrote under the name Kinley MacGregor, but I didn't know if I could use them as a reference because authors who change their pen names usually do it to establish different writing styles. Anyway, this couldn't be "bad" because, WTH, it's still the same person writing the books, right?

With a title like “Fantasy Lover” I was not expecting this book to be so riotously funny! Gorgeous man, yes. Sexual tension, for sure. Hot sex, hell yeah. But comedy? Who knew?!? HAHA! I’m on the verge of busting out into one of those snorting, wheezing laughs that makes your cheeks hurt just remembering the hilarious heinosity (I realize that isn’t a real word) that filled the pages of this book.

Her birthday of all nights, Grace found her friend insisting that she participate in yet another of her crazy chants under a full moon. Cleaning up after Grace found herself no longer alone in her house. Many centuries spent cursed to the book, Julian knew what to expect. As a sex slave it was always the same thing - the bedroom for his month of freedom, if you could call it that before returning to the darkness of the book. Startled by the naked man in the room she may have been, but it was

I love the softness in Grace's personality, and the rugged torturous aspects of Julian's. The plot is overwhelmingly fun; a sex slave falling in love with a sex therapist! The action in the book isn't as noted as it is in the other Dark-Hunter novels, but there does exist two noted fight scenes, despite the general lack there of.

This is Book 1 of the "Dark-Hunter" series and tells the story of Julian. His mother is Aphrodite and his father was a brutal general from Sparta. Julian was cursed at 32 to be trapped in a book and summoned throughout the centuries on a full moon as a love slave. Grace is a sex therapist unlucky in love. On her birthday her best friend, Selena (one of the famous Deveraux sisters), gives her Julian's book as a birthday gift and encourages her to summon him...which Grace does, much

While Julian of Macedon is not a Dark Hunter his story of being a cursed sex slave, stuck in a scroll [b:] until someone summons him [and his life before the curse:] gives you the emotional connection that each Hunter's story manages to do.
Grace, a sex therapist that has no love life, summons Julian from a book on her b-day. She is shocked when the spell her friend Selena asked her to repeat actually worked! Grace struggles with the obvious question of how many ways to have Julian i More...

What a great book. Definitely an A+. Sherrilyn just has a gift for making characters that you shed tears for and fall in love with. Julian really touched my heart and I felt for him in his pain. SK also has a great way with telling ancient history so that you're riveted. I admit I'm a history buff anyway, but she just brings it to light in a vivid and interesting way. And she seems fairly accurate in a way that Xena and Hercules aren't always. Her books make me want to go out and buy a book on a

Julian of Macedon’s life sucks. He’s spent centuries trapped in a book because of the jealousy of the god of fertility that envied Julian’s prowess with women. Hmm.
The only way the ancient general can get out of his book is if a woman summons him to fulfill her every sensual desire… for a month.
Though that might sound swell – in a very guy frame of mind –, but after two thousand years even a weathered Spartan can grow weary for such an existence.

Actually Grace Alexander has only just for the fun of it and in maudlin mood at her birthday agreed to her best friend Selena´s suggestion to summon Julian of Macedon out of a book. What she doesn´t know is Julian was cursed by the gods to submit as a sex slave to every woman who calls for him for the time of a month and after that leave this world again to wait for the next call. Grace never really though that Julian would appear and start to seduce her..

I found Fantasy Lover to be a light and fun read. Son of Aphrodite, Julian of Macedon angered the Gods and was cursed 2000 years ago to be a ‘love slave’. He is kept inside a book until a woman wishes to call for him. When she says his name three times, he will appear and be at her mercy for whatever erotic fantasies she wishes for 30 days. Selena thinks her friend Grace needs help in the sex department, so she gets the book for her friend. After maybe a few too many drinks one night, they ca

Fast and easy read. Good sex scenes.
I had no trouble suspending my disbelief when it came to the Macedonian General coming to life out of the book to be a sex slave, but I do not like when the mundane is unbelievable. Specifically, the main female protagonist is supposed to be a modern day sex therapist (focusing on relationships, not sex with clients), but I could not believe for a second that she was a good therapist. It pulled me out of the story because I did not like or belie More...

This was just an okay read for me.I wish I could give it 2 1/2 stars. I liked the author's writing style & the characters. It was okay but after reading Karen Marie Moning's Fever series, I tend to compare everything in this genre to that. I don't think it can be topped. Not even by Moning's Highlander series. I shouldn't say that as I have only read book #1 of the Highlander series but if book #1 is any indication... For the record, I liked Fantasy Lover much better than Beyond the Highland Mi

The only way this book is even remotely tolerable is to read it aloud with a friend so that you can truly appreciate the ridiculousness of it. It is repetitive, stupid, and horribly written. I can't believe this woman is being published, and is a best-selling author on the NYTimes list. It's kind of scary. This books also takes the prize for being the worst book I've ever read in my life, and that includes that ones I read during my 8th grade romance novel phase.

A sex slave conjured from a book, a sex therapist, and an unmistaken love for eachother. Fantasy lover will make every woman run into any used book store near her to find themselves a fantasy lover like this one.
Let us all speak the name of our fantasy lover three times on a fool moon and pray we get someone as good as Julian.

My first foray into "paranormal romance," I find it interesting enough to maybe pick up some of the further ones. Kind of hot, too, which I don't mind but others might. I have to admit to a few raised eyebrows at the history and mythology and tight coincidence therein, but we're not trying to make this difficult, right?

1.5 stars? LOL.
I know PNR gives free range to have worlds and characters that are unrealistic but this book was a big wtf to me. The beginning was so ridiculous I almost put the book down. A sex slave trapped in a book for two thousand years and the only way to break the curse is to have an all night sex marathon? Seriously? The plot was soooo predictable the entire way through. I thought the Greek mythology would spike my interest but it just fell flat. Overall, it did keep me somew More...

I actually quit reading this book because it was so bad. I rarely give up on a book but this one was REALLY LAME. A truely bad bodice ripper.

Well book girls around the world I can honestly say I have found my fictional husband. Yes Julian is hot and he oozes sex but he won the position by buying Grace books. Yes you heard me he bought her books, and not just any books but he replaced her whole collection when they were destroyed by a maniac. *swoons while waving nerd flag* This awesome scene makes the book 5 stars for me but let me tell you about the rest. Julian of Macedon is trapped into a book by his brother Priapus. The why

This book is different to the other Dark-Hunter books in the series so If you don’t like this one it would still be worth reading the next one, it is more of an introductory novel then an actual start to the series. It has some nice humour to the story like Cupid being a biker and flowing sexual tension. Grace is a loveable character and a relatable one at that. I admire her moral code and her unwillingness to just into the sack with Julian and use him for her own pleasure; much to Julian’s dis

All right, I broke my reading order rule because I found the book that was *supposed* to be in my list a couple of books back. Yes, I have a reading rotation order. Yes, it's slightly anal, but it works for me.
So, having thought I'd lost my copy of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Fantasy Lover, I ran out and bought a new copy.
And promptly found the old one. Typical.
Grace Alexander is a sex therapist in need of a relationship with a decent man. She's seen enough of how to m More...

Sherrilyn Kenyon's B.A.D. (Bureau of American Defense) romance series is such an enjoyable diversion.
I've avoided her paranormal Dark Hunter series due to the confusion over reading order (so many are part of anthologies, not separate books in a series) ... plus it's an extensive series. Finally decided to jump into the Dark Hunters due to raves on the paranormal boards over the years.
Two words kept popping into my head as I read this first book: Cheesy & Silly.

I've read worse... but this was ridiculous.
The characters were stereotypes in the extreme. They weren't even made interesting.
Julian's pervy comments were overdone. It came off as Kenyon trying too hard to be funny.... It came across that way with other characters too. Eros' "spoon in the jelly jar" ... Really?
The story had a lot of potential and it just ended up falling flat.
It was predictable and overflowing with sap and cheese.

Later books in this series may be better, I hope so. I won't rush out to buy them though. The actual writing was good. The overall story was neat & somewhat different than I've read lately - Greek mythology opened up in interesting ways. She's opened up a world where almost anything could happen, but the number of players, their powers & motivations were confusing. Most were super powerful, but ineffective & what their limits were & why was not clear at all. They seemed to change & I wasn't im

What an amazing start to the series. I have had this on my to be read pile for a LONG time, now i deeply regret not starting earlier. I stayed up till the early hours because i had to finish it!
Love how history suddenly became alot more interesting, Grace and Juilen were such a cute couple. Yeah it was slightly *perfect* towards the end but i dont mind since its a first in the series.
