When you make a face or cross your eyes, do your parents tease that if you're not careful, your face might stay that way forever?
Well, my parents said that if I'm not careful, I'll turn into one of my gadgets.

I thought they were joking, people

But-somehow, someway-I have become a living, breathing, walking piece of technology. Apparently my head now has a built-in GPS and...more

Review

Samantha is in for some seriously funny antics when she gets fused with her cell phone. She goes from being a typical teen to being a Digital Diva, complete with superhero abilities.

Fused has a fun and engaging plot. Sam is a likable and entertaining heroine. She had just the right amount of confusion about her situation and enthusiasm for her new abilities. Sam is someone I could identify with in a good way.

Some of the scenes where Sam’s powers come into play are very funny. My favorite w...more

Sam's parents had warned her that she was far too dependent on technology and gadgets. She couldn't go anywhere without the latest tech and she got easily lost without her handy phone GPS. But they never could have expected things to go down the way they did.

One night, while lost in the woods, Sam turns on her GPS, turns a corner, and finds the discovery of the century. A blue, glowing meteor is lying in a crater in the forest and Sam gets the sudden urge...more

Samantha Granger could get lost in her own home—she has zero sense of direction. So it’s no surprise that she loses her way while returning home through the woods from her friend’s house. What is a surprise is the glowing green crystal she spots, and what happens to her when she touches it.

The Samantha Granger Experiment: Fused by Kari Lee Townsend is part realistic fiction, part science fiction, and part superhero action novel. It’s also funny.

As Samantha slowly comes to realize she has special...more

Isn't that cover adorable? I thought it was cute and it gave me a sense of what the tone of the book would be like. Samantha becomes "fused" with her cell phone and becomes a teen super hero.

While I enjoyed this book, I won't go as far to say it was a favorite of mine. It was cute and had some funny parts through out the story, but it wasn't a memorable read that I will remember next year. While the story was more focused for the younger teen generation, it was still a quick and cute read. It i...more

When I first heard about this book I knew I had to read it. I loved the idea of techno-superhero and how it would be told from the eyes of a tween. Luckily this book was enjoyable in many aspects and I feel middle-grade readers will simply love it!

Fused is the first book in The Samantha Granger Experiment series and it begins the story of Samantha herself. Samantha is the typical tween. She loves her tech gadgets and hanging out with her best friend, as well as crushing on the cute boy in her g...more

I love the premise of Fused. After touching a meteor Samantha and her high tech phone are fused together as one. Suddenly she has instant access to the Internet and is able to use it to her advantage whether on the soccer field or fighting criminals. Unfortunately she doesn't have complete control over her powers.

This is a fun light hearted book with lots of humor in it. Not laugh out loud funny but still fun to read. The book moved along really quickly leaving some plot holes and storylines tha...more

The Samantha Granger Experiment: Fused is the unique story of a girl who gets fused with her cellphone. She is able to use its features: GPS, text, camera, sometimes without her permission. Samantha is an adorable character with a spunky personality and she very much embodies the traits of a young teenager. Her boy troubles added more complications to her existing issues and I enjoyed seeing where this story would go.

Samantha's love interest, Trevor, is interesting but I wish I could have learn...more

This story stars with Samantha lost in the woods of her new home. She finds a mysterious object that looks like it came from space. When she tries to touch it she gets fused with her new phone her mom had given her. Her life is turned upside down when she finds out that she can now do everything that her phone could do.

Sam was a funny character that I didn't get tired of. She tries to solve her problem by herself but she will find out that she needs the help of others. Even though she had bigger...more

Samantha Granger is having a hard time. She's been moved from home, her parents are separated, and her favorite person, Gram, her dad's mom is thousands of miles away. She has made friends at school and has a crush on the cute guy on the football team who just happens to have the locker next to her. But just as he's starting to show interest, she becomes a "freak." She was walking home from her friends house and gets lost in the woods. She sees something fall in the woods. She discovers a meteor...more

Plot:

Sam is just like any other teenage girl, except for that her parents have moved around a lot since they are scientists. Now she is at a new school, she has got a great bff, and a crush on this really cute boy. But then she touches something that fell from the sky and she gets fused with her cell phone, she is a waling GPS, and she can hear the super hero in her calling.

My thoughts:

The book was cute, fun and short. I think it works well for girls and boys. For girls there is Trevor, the boy...more

I didn’t know quite how much I would enjoy Fused before reading. It’s not the kind of book I usually pounce at the chance to read, but it definitely wasn’t something I thought I would definitely dislike. Thankfully, I was very pleased by what was in between the covers.

Samantha is a cute, energetic, and fun character. The book wasn’t weighed down with any whining or crying from her, she was just trying to figure out how to make everything right. I enjoyed reading about her friends, but I felt lik...more

I love the concept behind The Samantha Granger Experiment. The mixing of superhero and modern gadgetry felt very fresh and now. I didn't absolutely love Fused, the first book in the series, though.

Samantha becomes "fused" with her cell phone after touching a a huge otherworldly crystal and becomes capable of doing anything her cell phone could do. This felt like a standard superhero origin story and I would have liked to know a little bit more in the way of how and why the crystal effected Saman...more

Great pre-teen angst book without too much emphasis on the angst. It just happens naturally and flows with the plot. Loved the techno aspect and the characters. The story line seemed to get choppy by the end and I went back several times thinking I had missed a page (but hadn't). It definitely sets itself up for a sequel. I would recommend it to upper elementary & middle school girls. Not sure boys would really get into it even with the techno.

This was a cute read. A novel idea (girl touches strange meteorite, becomes fused with super-advanced cell phone, causing all manner of hilarity) and a charming narrator.

I wasn't expecting earth-shattering revelations, and there weren't any. Just a sweet, short read. As MG lit goes, it wasn't bad.

Surprising, edgy, with humor to boot, Samantha Granger is a vibrant yet earthy 7th grader with a problem. Her hand starts acting like her missing cell phone after she has a strange encounter with some foreign space rock in the backwoods. Sam's friendship with her girly best friend is believable as is her crush on the junior high heartthrob, Trevor. This story is a fun, fast-paced read that should appeal to as many boys of middle grade age as girls. The voice was easy and authentically MG and so...more

I really enjoyed the story and then loaned my copy to my grandkids. They're still reading it but the one reading it now said he wished he could get FUSED!!

Wonderful book. Great characters, great plot. Very imaginative. My 10 year old says it's the BEST book she's every read! I thought it was great as well.

Well what can I say about me? I live in Central NY with my very understanding husband, my three busy boys, and my oh-so-dramatic daughter, who keep me grounded and make everything I do worthwhile ... not to mention provide me with loads of material for my books :-) I am a long time lover of reading and writing, with a Masters in English Education. I have been both a winner and finalist in several...more
