This is probably the third time I've read this book. I first received it in the eighth grade, and middle school being a particularly bleak time, I found it sort of inspiring. Leo Buscaglia's book was written some time ago. It includes anachronistic slang like the word "groovy" and the most recent text cited in it is copyright 1970, but the general message holds up well over time. Basically, Love runs the gamut from romantic love, to love of mankind through charity, and especially s More...

This is an excellent book because it provides incredible insight into the concept of love, while still reminding the reader that love is subjective. Buscaglia's wisdom in regards to this topic greatly expanded my view of how and why people love. It is a book tailored for a person in any relationship status and at any level of understanding. Buscaglia explains that while there is only one "kind" of love, there are varying "degrees" to which we love, an idea I find extremely in More...

ok, this book was published in the 70's - and it shows. But if you can overlook some of the obvious outdated slang and such, then there really is a lot of good stuff in there.

My favorite 70's line: "Sometimes I get up in the morning, and I feel so freaky and good, I can't stand it." :)

Yes, it’s unfortunately a terrible cover, but what’s inside is a delight. Buscaglia created a class on what is love and grew insights from it that are profound and spoken so well here. There are excerpts in here to come back to again and again.

I found this book in a carton of books I could not part with from years ago. It is such a warm book and as timely now as it was when written. The author is funny and whimsical and tells a good story, using anecdotes well.

Met Leo on a university project with PBS - bad time in my life, I was a mess - and somehow he helped and his "lesson" came thru. I really liked the book but did not expect the feeling from him to be equally as genuine

Dr. Buscaglia was one of those treasures you don't fully appreciate until he's gone (1999?). Pioneer and builder of esteem, Leo Buscaglia gave us a map of love...love of all sorts. Thank you.

A fast read that reminded me that I liked his videos many years ago. Leo makes a good case for
love being something we can't lose by giving it away.

Leo understood the important things in life and lived a life of loving and caring for others more than himself, this I admired so much in the man...

Buscaglia's message is to reach out and touch someone (he was especially big on hugs), share your feelings, don't conceal your emotions.

Leo goes way back... I miss him. A classic that transcends time. He was way ahead of his time. You can feel the love oozing out of him.

The most beat up, coffee spilled, ripped up and weathered book I own. From my grandma in high school.....really beautiful.

Picked up the book and didn't put it down until I was finished...

uplifting... thought provoking...

"Each person lives love in his limited fashion and does not seem to relate the resultant confusion and lonliness to his or her lack of knowledge about love."

You don't have to believe love can be reified. If you just take the book as an intelligent discussion about the ubiquitous feeling/social construction/sacred gift/however-you-want-to-see-it which u More...

The author made "Love" seem like such an easy thing to do. I have learned that it can get very complicated.

I first read this book when I was 15 year old. It will always be one of the books on a very short list, which saved me. God Bless Felice Leonardo Buscaglia!

a few really well-phrased insights and an amusingly 'groovy' tone, but nothing groundbreaking.

My high school English teacher made us read this little red book and I have never forgotten her for it. I don't remember many of my high school teachers-very few made any kind of impact. But Mrs. Sullivan did. I loved this book- and I can certainly attribute it to the fact that I am a teacher today. Leo just has that way about him. Some may call him liberal-but he's just talking about love. And we all could use a little of that-actually a lot of that!

I don't think anyone reads Leo Buscaglia anymore but for anyone who remembers his PBS series from the seventies would appreciate this book; or, if you never saw the series, you might enjoy the book anyway. Buscaglia was convinced that love was the answer to many ills; a professor in California, he was refused an opportunity to teach a formal class on love; he chose to teach an open class instead and it quickly filled to the rafters...and he hugged!

Love is one of our most basic human needs and until Leo Buscaglia little had been taught, discussed and learned about it in an academic manner. he started by teaching a course on love in an American university and the insights into it in this book changed me. I read this in Grade 13 after it was given to me by my most favorite teacher that ii ever had Mr John F. Burke. OAC English teacher

One of my favorites. Everyone needs to read this one. It's about learning love through experience. Leo taught a class at USC and discovered what others thought about love. It's all about how you feel. If you feel something, show it, if you want to hug someone, hug someone. Love is what you make of it, we grow in love. The greatest thing I learned is that we are our own best self.

The author's self-righteous narrow-minded liberalism (it was the time) made him difficult to accept as any type of authority, so I am putting it down half-way through on my girlfriends advice.
Read a bit more, and it got a bit better, so I upped my rating. But then it fizzled again- guess it needs ot be read in small bits for me.

Leo Buscaglia was a sociology professor who recognized that there weren't any classes being taught on life's most important subject: Love. So he started a college course on love, and this book is about what his many classes learned together. It's full of great quotes and makes you want to go out and hug everybody!
