In the Burg, Stephanie Plum is known as the person who set fire to the funeral home. She’s also known as someone who can find a missing person. Where this reputation came from, she doesn’t know. Most of the time, if she finds her man (or woman), it’s dumb luck. But she is now sitting in her parents’ neighbor’s house, and she can’t say no to the little old lady sobbing in front of her. Her granddaughter and great-granddaughter have disappeared. And now Stephanie has agreed to look for...more

As a favor to her mother's next-door neighbor, Mabel Markowitz, Stephanie agrees to check up on the lady's granddaughter, Evelyn Soder, who has suddenly taken off with her little girl, Annie, leaving behind a child custody bond against Mabel's house. The son-in-law is a bad guy who lost his bar to Eddie Abruzzi, a very nasty character who owns evelyn's building. Evanovich is addicting. And there are so many good and timely tips about childraising, sex, interior decorating, pet care, family relationships, interpersonal relationships, that whoever reads her doesn't really need to read Spock, Dr. Ruth, John Bradshaw, or any pet expert, or watch HGTV. She also cancels out the need to research which cars will hold up under extreme conditions. She provides insight into sensitive theological issues, especially how "interesting" women try to circum...more

Stephanie Plum, the bombshell bounty hunter from New Jersey, already has problems. Her relationship with Joe Morelli is so complicated it's now over. Plus, her attractive, if terrifying, mentor and tormentor Ranger has decided he's ready to collect his reward. But when Steph's mother and Grandma gang up to insist she finds their neighbour's missing granddaughter Evelyn and her child Annie, Steph can't refuse. Mabel Markowitz signed a custody bond guaranteeing Annie would stay in Trenton after her parents' divorce. Now Evelyn and Annie have vanished, Mabel will lose her house to True Blue Bail Bonds Agency. But following their trail is not simple. Where have they gone? And why is a giant rabbit stalking Steph?

I read this book because I didn't have any books here in the house that I haven't already read at least a couple of times, and my friend Bree is storing several boxes of books here. I tore into one of her boxes and found Hard Eight. It's a Stephanie Plum novel, Stephanie being the haphazard heroine of the story.
I was a little disappointed. It took me a half the book to really care about the characters and then it ended suddenly. It went from climax to end in about a chapter. I like to fall i...more

Why-oh-why didn't Janet go into a little more detail about Steph's 'escapade' with Ranger? Darnit, I wanted more info than that! LOL! That's okay. He's still just as hot as ever. I enjoyed the story, but it still seems strange, the situation between Joe and Steph. Why is it that he can't accept wholely who Steph is and what she does for a living? Would he feel the same if she was a cop? If you ask me, the attitude is a selfish one, and he's really starting to piss me off. Wonder what the next st...more

Eh. I'm not usually a fan of this genre, but I enjoyed the characters' banter and dialogue.
Other than that, I do not think that Stephanie Plum is a convincing bounty hunter. She randomly shot at objects, lost her "bounty" on more than one occasion along with other peoples' handcuffs, her car exploded twice, and she sounds sickly since she eats McDonald's on a daily basis, 3 times a day. The McDonald's part actually really made me cringe, the twice exploding cars just seemed fool...more

A Stephanie Plum Mystery. It's hot out and I wanted something fluffy and inconsequential to read and this was certainly that. Stephanie's still making the same stupid mistakes, but I knew that going in.
This is the one where Stephanie looks into the disappearance of a mother and her two children, gets befriended by an inept lawyer named Kloughn, and is menaced by a guy in a bunny suit. There were equal parts Morelli and Ranger in this one, but still not much of either of them.

Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter semi-extraordinaire, is called on by a neighbor of her mother's to locate and assure the safety of a woman and her daughter, who have disappeared. Stephanie, of course, is not the only one looking for Evelyn and young Annie: Evelyn's ex-husband, a creepy guy the ex seemed to work for and the female equivalent of Ranger also are seeking them. After slipping a notch in the last installment, this book roars back to delightful hilarity. My favorite scenes: The laundroma...more

Stephanie Plum - a dysfuncional NJ bounty hunter - meets Jeanne Ellen Burrows... the bounty hunter she aspires to be... cool, mysterious and always gets her man - usually without landing on a table of fast food, being chased by dogs or ending up on the wrong end of a stun gun. And this lady has a mysterious past with Ranger.
I have officially run out of steam writing these reviews, but Evanovich makes me laugh out loud... she can do no wrong for me... keep em coming!

I have had an extraordinarily hard time finishing this book. This volume in the Stephanie Plum saga seems, to me at least, to lack the comic tone and fun of the first seven. Evanovich is trying to say something and I'm not sure if she succeeds. Stephanie's adventures are never totally realistic, but I find myself unable to understand her motivations.

These things are like candy. Pure fantasy/entertainment for women who need to take the occasional journey to a world where two hot men are interested in a slightly uncoordinated woman - like Bridget Jones for the mystery genre.
I'll get around to reading Tolstoy once I find out what happens with Morelli and Ranger. A girl's gotta have priorities.

My favorite book yet in this series! I dog-eared the pages that had some phenomenal laugh out loud moments and I couldn't believe how many pages were marked. Connie, Lula, and Grandma Mazur have never been wittier and Ranger has never been hotter. I'm a Morelli girl to the end, but Ranger heats up the competition in this book.

"This book is really crappy and I wouldn’t be listening to it except that I have nothing else to listen to. The writing and narration are both pretty poor. I am listening to this as a book on CD from the library.
[Later] I stopped reading this once I got other books from the library. I don’t recommend this one."

I just can't get enough of these Stephanie Plum novels. I've been reading them in order and probably won't stop until I run out of books that are in print. Janet Evanovich's books offer a little of everything-------romance, humor, and mystery. The book is finished, and I've already ordered the 9th one.

FINALLY!! I have been waiting for Stephanie and Ranger to hit the sheets, the tension between them has been building through many books. I just can't get enough of this crazy family! I love the grandma, all the nonsense that Stephanie gets into and don't get me started on Lula!! LOL!

This one was a little hard to get into at first. I got pretty annoyed with one of the characters - Kloughn. And I just got more annoyed everytime that Stephanie allowed him to "tag along". But about halfway through the book, it really picked up, and I forgot all about Kloughn.
