From the author of Assassin's Honor, a bold and sexy new historical romance.

Youth and beauty are a courtesan's greatest assets. Concerned, at forty-one, that she is no longer desirable, Lady Ruth Attwood is uncertain whether to be offended or flattered when a younger man makes her an unusual offer. In need of funds, she agrees. But then she does the unthinkable-she falls

I love reading Courtesan/Escort romances, perhaps because of Robin Schone’s The Lover or that is shows another faction of the human spirit of overcoming classes and those whose past are not pure white, or perhaps I watch Pretty Woman way to much, no matter the case, and while this book didn’t live up to the hype I had for it, it was still a very engaging read that had me reading to the end.

Lady Ruth has just been tossed aside by her lastest protector for a younger woman. At Forty-one Ruth is at...more

I wanted to love this story and given the chemistry of the characters I thought I would, however, to be honest the story was borderline, exhausting. Garrick is completely obsessed with his physical abnormality and Ruth is completely obsessed with her age and how society will view her being in a relationship with a much younger man. Both obsessions took center stage through the entire book and as a result I felt drained and ready for the story to be over instead of anticipating a HEA. I give cred...more

This is the first Monica Burns novel I've read and...wow! Amazing!

The title might be misleading for those who just want more erotica, or expecting a lot of hot and passionate love scenes, but this novel is a gripping tale of how two people struggled to find happiness amidst a cruel society. The characters were unpredictable and really complex, there were a lot of layers to them and the storytelling was fast-paced it really got me hooked. For a novel branded as erotica, it has fewer scenes than I...more

Favorite Quote: “A teacher of mine once told me that some women like to hear a man whisper naughty words into their ears.” His teeth nibbled at her earlobe. Her knees gave away, and only his body kept her from sliding to the floor. “Are you one of those women, my lady?”

Forty-One year old Lady Ruth has been a courtesan most of her life and a very successful one at that. However, her latest lover has cast her aside for someone younger. Ruth isn’t quite sure how to feel about this. She knows this l...more

I have a small number of authors I always rely on who give me a well-written, unique story. These authors are either comfort reads or ones who are willing to take a chance and write unconventional characters and storylines. Monica Burns is all of the above. She gives me the comfort I need, while writing excellent romance and with characters who are not the ho-hum, been there, done that I’ve seen countless times before. Her latest release, Pleasure Me has a perfect combination of what I love in r...more

I originally bought this book because I was interested in the switch of the stereotypes normally presented in a romance novel. The usual 25 years old virgin and the 30+ man whore that has shagged anything with two legs..

This story presented a 29 year old man, Garrick Stratfield, who had never been with a woman, he was dare I say it, (gasp), a virgin. And a 41 year old woman who is, yes you can roll your eyes, a Courtesan/Mistress, Lady Ruth.

So I bypassed the title (cringe)...more

Pleasure Me is the first historical romance I read by Monica Burns, I was already familiar with her Order of Sicari Novels and I loved those. So I wondered if her latest historical romance could mesmerize me in the same way as her paranormal romances. I guess I was not prepared for Baron Garrick Strattfield; he knocked me off my feet with his raw, intense, masculinity right from the start. And I immediately felt sympathy for Lady Ruth Attwood and was vexed on her behalf, in only 18 pages (the fi...more

Pleasure Me is a historical romance that features an aging courtesan and a young nobleman crippled by a hidden birth defect. Ruth Attwood is a woman who has not chosen her place in the world, it was a last resort but despite the circumstances that pushed her into becoming a courtesan, she behaves with grace and dignity. Ruth Attwood is the kind of person you want to know, and the kind of woman who could be very dangerous Garrick Stratfield and his secrets.

This is unlike Monica's other books in t...more

Desafortunadamente ambos han tenido una vida difícil. Ruth se vio forzada a ser cortesana y cuando su edad empieza a ser el motivo de poner en riesgo su futuro, ella sólo puede refugiarse en el orfanato que dirige. Garrick por otro lado,...more

While I did get pulled into the story and felt compelled to know what happens to everyone, overall I didn't think this books was especially well-written. It feels very old school to me, being overly dramatic and over-wrought.

This book was recommended on the Amazon romance forum years ago in the category of "older woman/younger man." That aspect of the story was fine, until the end when the author uses a rather silly device to try and make Ruth feel better about their age difference....more

Pleasure Me is a hot book with some very enticing scenarios within the pages. I really like how Ruth seems to know exactly what Garrick needs when it comes time for his lessons. The chemistry between the two main characters seems to crackle with energy and a vibrancy that you do not always see within a novel. The obstacles that Ruth and Garrick have to overcome are many and while it really helped the plot out, I was a little deterred by the trust issue which was not really solved until the last...more

To her surprise, when Baron Garrick Stratfield makes her an offer, she finds herself not wanting to accept because he stirs emotions in her that she fears.

Lady Ruth Atwood is 41—not a good age, for a courtesan. When her last protector dumps her for a younger model—and refuses to pony up on the large house he promised her. If she sells some of her jewels and a house, she can probably buy the large house herself. She helps run an orphanage, and the kids need more room.

Baron Garrick Stratfield is handsome, and despite the fact that he's got a reputation as a ladies' man, he's actually never been with a woman. Seems he has a deformity down there

I very much liked the majority of this book. The story was intriguing and it takes place in the late Victorian/early Edwardian period. Lady Ruth is a courtesan and is now 41 years old. While still beautiful, her last patron left her for a younger woman, and she fears that she has become too old for her "profession" and needs to retire. Garrick is a 29-year-old Baron and a virgin. Why? Because he has a birth defect in a "private place" and was made fun of for his deformity when he was younger.

Warning: This one is a lot on the steamy side! Adults only book.

What I Loved: This was a unique twist on other courtesan historical romances in many ways: the woman is older than the man, the man is the virgin, and the woman is strong but still very vulnerable in some ways. The romance between Ruth and Garrick was a fantastic read and kept me engaged from beginning to end. The chemistry between them crackled with electricity that seemed to j...more

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

Lady Ruth Attwood is forty-one, and Baron Garrick Stratfield is twenty-nine. Ruth knows he's younger, just not that much younger. She's a courtesan that has been let go by her current lover, Marston, who's getting ready to marry a younger woman. Ruth is aware that the years are passing her by, and she has decided to get out of the `biz' altogether while she still has her beauty. She also is a benefactress o...more

I really didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought would. I found the heroine kind of annoying. She was so hung up on the fact that she was getting older that she came across as shrewish and matronly. I guess because this was a story about a courtesan the author decided to throw in a bleeding heart angle to it with the whole opening up an orphanage part. I think the author would have done a better job fleshing out the relationship between the hero and the heroine instead of the side stories th...more

A DEFINITE KEEPER! What a stunning and fabulous read. Pleasure Me is the sultry historical you MUST read!

"Pleasure Me", by Monica Burns, spoke to me on numerous varying levels. Many times in people there is a difference between age and maturity. There is also a great difference between youth and youthfulness. There are certain women, like the heroine Ruth, who are "timeless". With "Pleasure Me", Ms. Burns succeeds in creating a sensual romance about two very attractive people who met not at the same place in years, but at exactly the right time for their hearts. This is the type of romance which I...more

Lady Ruth Attwood had just lost her latest patron to a much younger competitor. At the age of forty-one, she was verging on retirement, but she can not afford it. Unknown to anyone, Ruth is the sponsor of St. Agnes, an orphanage that desperately needs more space. Ruth is seeking to purchase Crawley Hall, but the expense will drain her finances badly. With her self-esteem shaken, she is taken aback and suspicious when Baron Ga...more

OMG. This book. I could not put it down. I stayed up until almost 4 am (on a work night!), trying to finish it.

The story centers around Lady Ruth Attwood and Lord Garrick Stratfield. Ruth is 41 and a courtesan - Garrick is a 29 year old wealthy man of society.

Ruth is dumped for a younger woman - and shortly after, she meets Garrick. They are immediately drawn to each other, although by the day's social standards, a 29 year old man and a 41 year old woman should not be in a relationship together....more

The hero is twenty-nine years old. He’s hiding, what he believes, is a terrible personal defect. Only a couple of people know about it and he’s determined to not let any woman find out what it is. Garrick is a bit emotionally crippled by it. His uncle is partly to blame for Garrick’s insecurities. They have a terrible relationship with each other, always have.

Ruth, the heroine, is really hung up on the fact that she’s forty-one and is about to ‘retire’ from being a courtesan when she meets Garr...more

Lady Ruth Attwood was dumped for a younger mistress. At forty-one, she fears she's washed up. As a courtesan, youth is critical for finding a new protector. Baron Garrick Stratfield has a physical issue that shames him and has brought him humiliation in the past. He can’t allow himself to become intimate with a woman, so he never plans to marry. He had a pseudo mistress for the sake of appearances, but she’s getting married...more

As I've said a few times before, historical romance is not my favorite genre (unless it involves men in kilts --- but that's another topic for another day). Historical romances, for whatever reason, have never held a lot of appeal to me. Whenever I read a historical by Monica Burns, however, I'm instantly engrossed in the time period and the characters.

It's not easy for a historical to capture my undivided attention, and Monica Burns does just that.

"Pleasure Me" centers on Ruth Attwood, a courte...more

I picked this up because of all the great online reviews, and also because of the fairly unusual concept: an older courtesan heroine and a younger virgin hero. I mean, how often in fiction do you find a 29 year old virgin? Hero or heroine?

And I really enjoyed the book. Both H/H had deep-seated fears that kept them from acting instinctively on the attraction between them. The supporting cast was interesting, and I really loved the stuff with the orphanages.

If I had any complaint, it was the leng...more

The standard playboy and the virgin plot, but with the roles reversed. Ruth is the older, experienced lover and Garrick the virgin, which I found refreshing and different. His past explains why he remained a virgin, I found it believable, but he kept obsessing over it even after Ruth told him it didn't matter and they had made love several times. Ruth also kept harping about her age, even thought Garrick was most devoted to her and told her several times it didn't matter. I understand where the...more
