'Witch' was a book I read in my teenage years, and held onto it because of the great involvement I used to have with Christopher Pike. I read this story again to see if I could get anything more out of it, before I give it away.
I like Pike's writing techniques, in the way that he writes short-ish stories of around 200 pages, and within the page-constraints he develops an involving and believable story. The characterisation is cleverly squeezed into a few paragraphs, as well as using passages fro...more

I brought this book with me last week when I went away on Christmas vacation to a cabin in the middle of nowhere and I'm so glad I did. It's the only Pike book on my shelf I hadn't read yet - I don't even remember where I got it; I always try and pick his books up where I can find them - and it has rekindled my love for his storytelling. He is so talented at crafting suspenseful and unpredictable plots that get me turning pages faster than most authors can, YA fiction and Adult fiction alike. Hi...more

This is an amazing book. This book is about a girl that has a healing power like her mom. Julia’s mom dies and tells Julia to never look to look at water that had moonlight reflection. Julia can also see visions if she looks into water that has sunlight reflection. She sees a young mad that died in her arms. Later she meets a young boy named Jim. Jim is Amy’s new boyfriend. Julia falls for Jim but she knows she can’t have him. One of Julia best friends named Scott got shot right in front of Jim,...more
Such a long time ago I read this (I was 14 - my God, I feel old!). It stuck in my mind as one of the ones I loved the most. There was a compassionate feel about the story, which became apparent towards the end. I remember really liking the female lead .. and her green eyes, lol! I was a huge Christopher Pike fan. His other titles that stick in my mind are Remember Me (I think there are three books) and the one about the female Vampire - The Last Vampire, was it?

Julia is a girl gifted with a healing touch and the power to glimpse the future. One thing her mother told her never to do is look into a pond with the moonlight shining upon it. She's intrigued by this statement and gets trapped into seeing the future because of it.

When I was in middle school I thought this book was the best ever. Then I found the book again and read it before deciding if I was going to let my daughter read it. I did not like it as much. I guess my point of view of what makes a book good has changed over the years. It is not too bad. I do not think that the characters speak the way real life people would speak. The dialog was a little annoying because of that. I think it is good for the age group it was intended for.
This book really got me turning the pages. I liked the premise that Julia was a witch who had certain healing powers. Although she comes across as a bit cold and aloof in the beginning, she is later shown to be a strong, sympathetic character. I liked her relationship with her mother and her friends, Amy, Scott and Randy. The main fault I found with this book was the relationship between Julia and Jim. Jim was Amy's boyfriend and he falls in love with Julia the moment he sees her. He struck me a...more
I think this book is absolutely fabulous , I started reading this three years back and it's sort of become a tradition to read it every summer .. You can read this book over and over again and still have those gut wrenching feels . You never get tired of the plot . To be honest , once I start reading it again I forget what actually happens cause I get so into it :) This book does not disappoint .
I read this when I was 10 or 11. I absolutely loved it. The main character, Julia, was so magical to me, and the story always struck me emotionally no matter how many times I read it. I haven't picked it up in years, but I have very fond memories of it. The five-star rating reflects my young self. I almost don't want to read it in case it's lost its appeal.
I reread this as part of the preparation for the podcast Steph and I did for GA. This one did not hold up as well as I think some of the others do so many years later. I liked it, honestly I didn't really remember most of it, so it was like reading it for the first time. But, I didn't think the story was super strong.
i havent read this book in 8 years but i remember loving it. i remember crying my eyes out lol i still have the book i never could brinb myself to get rid of it. i should give it another read see if it still speaks to me the same. this is a good book i would recomend this fo any teen who likes the supernatural!!

Never read a book by Christopher Pike, but he seems like a really great author and I want to read every book he has written. They all sound fantastic!
Bought a bunch of Pike books recently wanting to recapture my teenage years and discovered that I hadn't actually read this one before. Pike isn't afraid of making his protagonists deeply flawed, and rereading them now definitely is making me realize just how deeply. But even though I don't sympathize with them as much anymore, they're not any less compelling.
I was reading a lot of Fear Street books in junior high when I borrowed this from a friend. Didn't like it.

“We're not gods, Julia. We're helpers. That's all. People have called us terrible things in the past. But that was only because they didn't understand us. That understanding is for the future, a time not long from now. You may live to see it. Then perhaps you can work openly, but for now, keep your gifts to yourself. Never flaunt your abilities. Never think you hold the power of life and death. Only God has that power. When it's a person's time, nothing can save them.”
