Better known for its movie version, Sherwood King's If I Die Before I Wake would please fans of crime noir. There's the sap, Laurence Planter, who is cajoled by his boss' business partner to give a fake confession to the cops that he killed the business partner (so that the partner could escape to Tahiti). There's Elsa Bannister, the boss' wife and femme fatale, and no noir story is complete without a femme fatale. Then there's Marco Bannister, the cuckolded husband and Laurence's boss.
